I’d be real happy if Foote makes the team. At the very least several games so what we can see what we have on him. We definitely need our young forwards to show improvement.

his trade bait, if you send makar or byram the other way. :sarcasm:

new jersey has no urgent need to move on from zacha. the prospect pipeline at center isn't all that good. mcleod is the much worse player and zajac's time will end soon. zacha is currently the best option to be the devils future 3c behind hughes and nico. his contract is no issue and there is no cap crunch in sight. even if makar or byram are clear overpayments, there is no need for the devils to send out zacha for a or multiple lesser assets.
Oh I didn't want him in Colorado but I was a fan of Zacha during his draft year but I didn't watch him play last year so I was just asking. I like what you guys are saying, if he can be a good 3C I'll be really happy for him.

I don't know much about Foote other then his pedigree and injury history. Has anyone seen him play consistently? Is he a legitimate top 6 prospect or did his name bump him up a few notches?

This is kind of off subject but any word if MSG is going to have a hockey show like they use to have on saturday nights? with 3 area teams and a lot of young star potential on them you would think its a no brainer. I was surprised they had a draft show

He is a legit top 6 prospect. Got a heck of a shot and skates well for a big kid. Going to be a powerfoward with a shot.
Power forwards DO have a tendency to need a little more time to develop though, so I really don't expect to see him up this year unless there's a real injury emergency.

Also, we have so many players pushing to make the team I was thinking we were pretty much set with forwards this year, but the more I look at our roster, the more I think we should sign a bottom 6 vet for a year. Part of it was trading away Anderson. part of it is that I'm a bit uncomfortable playing more than one rookie on each line.

We seemed to have had a formula under Shero. With the draft, it was drafting a goalie every year and taking 1 over-ager every year. With the team, it seemed to be getting a PTO every year and picking up a cap casualty or snagging someone off waivers at the start of camp. I'm wondering if Fitz is going to keep following that formula.

killorn and a pick for a lesser pick i would do. killorn for future consideration i might do. killorn for an asset, is 'talk to you later, bb'.

They probably figure it out by season's start and if this was a regular year Tampa would be able to move money.....Can see you rating Killorn higher too because for the money he is the better player you would rather keep....But as you see with Johnson no one would take him for free and Killorn if you dropped him he might get picked up....I don't blame you for wanting more and your right but Tampa's brass put themselves in this position with NMC's and NTC's and now no cap where everyone is fearing not just this year but next years cap as well....Unless they get someone to dig them out and nobody is going to that for free one of those RFA's could easily be lost or you take a hit in a trade.....But I agree with you I'd be pissed too but that blame falls on management side of the club for mishandling contracts.......But at same time at least you got a cup so they did good things too.

Chris Taylor was a long time NHL journeyman who spent most of his time in the Islanders and Sabres organizations. He spent some time in Buffalo while Lindy was HC there.

He has been head coach of AHL Rochester (Buffalo's affiliate) for the past 3 seasons with a record of 146-75. They made the playoffs his first two seasons and were swept in the first round both times. Obviously there was no AHL playoffs this year, but Rochester was 2nd in their division at the end of play.

He was one of 22 the Sabres fired without warning in their bloodletting back in June. You can read more about that here: https://www.buffalohockeybeat.com/sabres-fired-amerks-coach-chris-taylor-with-no-explanation/

I feel like I've been saying this every year, but I feel like we might be underestimating how good the Devils can be next year. From January 1 and on, the Devils would have been at a 1.13 pts/game pace, good enough for the 1st WC spot in the East. From the Blake Coleman trade on, the Devils were 2nd in the Metro in pts/game with 1.33 and third in the east. Now, I am not saying the Devils are gonna finish in the top 3 in the Metro, but frankly, we showed a ton of improvement after we kicked Hall and Hynes out. Obviously, these standings could easily be chalked up to a hot stretch, but I think its fair to say that this team was starting to find its stride. Coupling this with a highly improved goaltending tandem, a major improvement in the coaching department that stylistically will benefit this team a lot, effective additions to the D in Murray, Kulikov, and likely Smith, and the addition of Johnsson on offense and the natural progression of our young forwards, I really think people are underestimating our potential for next year. I'm not saying we are necessarily going to be a playoff team, but we should be putting up a good fight.

It’s really hard to look at things like this when the Devils were largely playing NHL backups and generally didn’t get the best effort from opposing teams. If a team like Washington showed up at full steam against the Devils post Hall/Coleman, the Devils had no answer for that.

I think there will be improvement solely based on the fact that we’ve supplemented the youth better this year. Blackwood with Crawford, Severson with Murray, Smith with Kulikov on the third pairing, and Johnsson to play with Hughes or Hischier. Still think we could use one more forward, but it’s certainly better than last year.

To add to that, the teams improvement is going to be largely based on the development of Blackwood, Severson, Smith, Hughes, and Hischier as it should be. This team is only going as far as that core takes it. If they make the playoffs, it’ll be because those five took a huge step forward. If they miss, it’ll be because they weren’t ready.
