Player still has to sign it. Point turned down a Montreal offersheet this week apparently.

They aren’t doing so hot on that front. One got laughed at by Carolina and the other was flat out rejected.

We kept wanting offer sheets...and then idiot Bergevin completely f***ed it up. Thanks Montreal.

thats a fantastic read and goes to show you that a lot of teams tend to keep top talent within the franchise. only a few of those players listed were actual game changers. so with top talent not available gm's will look elsewhere and hope they find a diamond in the rough.

If the Devils land a talent like Marner they are all but guaranteed to draft in the 22+ range for the next 5+ years. Which is where they were drafting for most of the time frame you're speaking of.

Not to mention that Nico and Jack could shape up to be the next Sid and Gino.

As currently constructed the Devils are a playoff team. Toss in a 94 point 22 y/o and you have a legit contender for as long as you can pay the players for.

I get the logic behind that, but I'd like to make the playoffs first before risking it. If this was next offseason, my answer might be different.

Just curious - but what would the overall reaction be if tomorrow the Devils formally issued an offer sheet to the Leafs for Marner?

sorry if that one has been discussed at nauseam but i feel most of the talk has been about Gusev recently,

** posted on the around the league one as well - sorry i didn't notice Marner talk was there **
I think it's too big of a risk to give up four first round picks when we literally just picked first overall. I think the team is better than what they showed this year but even Tampa missed the playoffs a couple of years ago because they were bogged down with injuries.

Vegas will be an interesting target.

Tuch and Gusev are the obvious candidates to go after for the Devils. We can also take on Clarkson's deal to do them a favor and give them room.

They also have no RHD at all (aside from the rumored return of Engelland who is a bottom pairing guy). Schmidt plays his off-side, but maybe we can dangle Vatanen to them. For Tuch, I'd easily do it, but Vatanen being a UFA at years end likely complicates things.

Just thinking of somehow acquiring Tuch, the forward group would be incredible and an absolute pain to play against.

Hall - Hischier - Palmieri
Coleman - Zajac - Tuch
Bratt - Hughes - Simmonds
Wood - Zacha - Anderson/Hayden

Vegas can't take salary back. Vatanen's $5 million complicates things, not that he's going to be UFA.

Not that I think it’s on the radar but the Devils could pay 50% of Vats contract if the deal was right.

The Devils ability to retain may make them a more interesting trade partner for teams who need to trim salary but want to stay as competitive as possible this coming season.
