I was looking trough 2002-2003 season where Devils won the cup and the weirdest thing i've seen in a while hits. Your first goaltender was Brodeur who had 91,3% save and second goalie Corey Schwab had 93,3% with 1,47 GAA in 11 games. In playoffs he had 2 games - both shutouts. Next season he played 3 games 97,1% and then ended his career? Is this the greatest back up goalie of all time what the hell.

Brodeur was a work horse in his prime, so the backups usually only played in back-to-backs. And usually the backup would get to go against the easier opponent of the two. So it wasn't unusual to see a backup put good numbers since he'd be going up against mostly bad teams. And technically Schwab didn't get shutouts in the playoffs. He got mop up duty in a couple games which were already decided. I was at the SCF game 6 and the team quietly switched Brodeur for Schwab during a TV timeout in the 3rd period, mostly to spare Marty the extra jeering from the crowd if he got pulled during live action. Schwab only made two saves in the remaining 10 minutes since Anaheim was happily nursing a 5-2 lead.

Two of his 2003-04 starts came against Pittsburgh and Washington who ended up being two of the worst three teams in the NHL that season.

Edit: Also looking at his 2002-03 game log, and Schwab got a couple early season starts (including a Hockey Night in Canada one) against Toronto which seemed a little peculiar. Then I realized Schwab had played the previous season in Toronto, so that might have been Pat Burns giving him the "show up your old team" start.

Wood is nothing more than a 4th line fast skater. I don't get your guys' obsession over him. He is HIGHLY replaceable.

Anderson isn't any better. I completely fail to see what everyone sees in him outside of "leadership". His ceiling, IMO, is 4th/3rd line tweener. Like a slight Pietila upgrade.

Good shot, good hockey sense, decent skater, good hands, can play up and down the lineup. His ceiling is for sure not a 3/4 line tweener, that could be where he ends up but his ceiling is definitely a top 9 player who can slot in on all three top lines.

I haven't seen a post this wrong in a long while...

Kid has way more tools and definitely has a vastly superior hockey sense compared to Wood. Wood is a nobody in the grand scheme of things.

Wood is a very valuable energy guy who is currently best suited for a 4th line LW role. He could end up being a solid 3LW, but as of now if Miles Wood is your 4LW he is a very valuable piece to have playing in that role.

Miles Wood is valuable but he's expandable especially at 2.75 million if he never becomes anything more than a 4th liner who has some good games and some bad games who takes a million dumb penalties.

You're downplaying Wood tbh. He is still very green as far as playing high level hockey.

He'll be 24 next season, he's likely just not a smart hockey player. I don't see him all of the sudden being a smart player, typical bottom 6 energy guy who cant help himself sometimes.

LMAO, where did all the Anderson and Wood hate come from? It’s possible that Wood never really recovers his ‘17-‘18 form and ends up as a 4th liner, but he has unparalleled physical tools, and has shown a scoring touch in the past, so it’s perfectly understandable for fans to hope he becomes more than that.

As far as Anderson is concerned, his toolset may or may not translate to the NHL, but it seems awfully early to call his ceiling as a 3rd/4th line skater.

I'm not downplaying Wood at all. He's simply not a good hockey player. He's legitimately topped out as a 4th line speedster/energy player and he's paid handsomely for that friggin role.

I'm not risking Joey Anderson, even with bust potential, because I'm worried about losing Miles Wood. He's inconsequential.

The funny thing is that Scott Clemmensen also wound up playing those two teams for 3 of his 4 starts that very same year.

2 games against Pittsburgh, 1 game against Washington and the other was against the Atlanta Thrashers.

no ones saying wood is a top line scorer but he has tools and can fill an effective role. no reason he can’t be a 20 goal 3rd line winger which is a valuable thing to have

I'm fine with you disagreeing. It was a strong statement and I understand that. I honestly hope you're right. I just do not see Anderson in any way now or in the future being anything other than potentially equally as impactful as Wood.

Wood is great when he's playing in the right role. He needs to go back to being physical and creating havoc. He really isn't a finesse player and he never will have the skills to do so. His hands are crap, he has no hockey sense, and other than skating fast in a straight line, he's a terrible skater.

I'd love to see him learn from Simmonds on how to clean up rebounds in front of the net. He does that and he could have a few solid years like Clarkson had and put up 20-30 goals by just being a pigeon and scoring on breakaways with his speed (except Clarkson never was fast).

I can't get that image out of my head of when Miles plastered himself to the glass on a horribly missed check last year, just looked way funny

Thinking that Joey Anderson is somehow more valuable than Miles Wood is certainly an odd take. Anderson is a dime a dozen hockey player that doesnt excel at any of his tools. Every team has a guy like him and he should be no where near our top 9 this year.

There's a difference between what you said and initial post basically saying he's nothing.

I just really don't even know what to say if you think he's reached his ceiling and is useless.

Wood is currently the better player of he and Anderson. He’s also 3 years older and has 3 years as a pro. Anderson is a year into his life as a pro.
