Zajacs Bowl Cut

You know, Ottawa needs to hit the cap floor.

What we could do to clear more room is trade Zajac to Ottawa, opening up a decent amount of caproom.

That would in turn give us way more flexibility to do an offersheet and keep our current core.

Hall - Nico - Palmieri
Bratt - Hughes - Marner

Zacha can take over as third center and we run with Rooney or who ****ing ever as the 4th line center.

Ottawa has a gaggle of picks in upcoming drafts so we could use that to our advantage. Perhaps we could do Zajac for San Jose's 2020 1st (by way of Ottawa)

Or maybe a collection of their 2nd rounders.

I definitely think there's a way we could get something done with Dorion and company though. They need the cap hit, Zajac is still a producer so it works for them and for us, it clears out a log jam at the position while at the same time clears up cap space to either offer sheet Marner/Laine or do extensions right now.

trading Zajac makes no sense at this moment. Having a handful of capable centers is in no way a bad thing and we don't have any cap issues.

Zajacs ability to win faceoffs at a better percentage than anyone else on the team (and a lot of other players on the league for that matter) makes him important in itself. He also plays a solid two way game and also makes the bottom 6 much better because he still can score.

There are other ways to add more cap space without trading Zajac. If Shero is intent on OS Marner or Laine etc, trading Wood and or Vatanen make more sense. And also accepting that Simmonds even with a great year would be a 1 year thing and gone next year.

Zajac is far too important to this team to be worth trading just to free up some cap space we don't really need right now.

*IF* you guys want to sign Marner, we HAVE to clear a minimum of 3-4M cap space for this year, and a total 5-6M for next year, and Zajac is probably the most expendable since Zacha can probably take his place and Rooney can take 4th line duties. It leaves us thin on C depth, but it's pretty much what's required if you want that mega-signing.

The other options are Schneider or Greene, which I think would be worse options.

If the Devils acquired their 2nd round pick back from Nashville and then offer-sheeted Patrik Laine on a 5 year deal worth 10 million per season AAV, would the Jets match the contract?

On the main board their fans are claiming that they'll match any offer under the 4 - 1sts compensation threshold. I think that's probably right. He had a bad season last year, but he still scored 44 goals at the age of 20.

will butcher and vatanen are also options. Both have significant value and both are replaceable. I think its likely that Greene can be the #4 D this year and next year at a discount. Wood is also an option for a trade for a slight discount and could get us a young promising D (middle pair potential).

I assume they would, now if you offered that for kyle Connor I think they would be 50/50 on it

Zajac is going to be on the bottom six lines where he belongs. That’s not an insult, that’s where he’d be playing on very good teams anyway.

I’d look into trading Vats sooner than I would Butcher.

There is no log jam at center and we have plenty of cap room. Absolutely needless move.

It's amazing that only like, the last guy truly understood things when I thought I was being really clear in my wording.

If you want to offersheet Marner, if that is the goal, if you want Mitch Marner on this team we are going to need to pay Mitch Marner a hefty sum.

On the other side of that, if we want to retain our other impact players, Nico, Hall, Hughes and give them contracts extensions. We will have to use cap space for that as well.

With these moves in place we will not longer have "plenty of cap room".

Trading Zajac comes in for giving us more flexibility on the Marner sheet in which we will already be pretty cap-hit after all extensions come into play. A Zajac trade is breathing room when Zacha makes less money, can play his spot and we have a horde of NHL ready centers we can put on the 4th line.

So yes, if you really want Marner and if you really the best chance to give out those big money contracts to our star players, trading Zajac and his deal would be a good way of getting it done.

Another situation could be trading Schneider but that should only be discussed if it's to be believed that Blackwood is to be starter, 100 percent and with no uncertainty about it.

I'm not sure trading any D is an option since we're so thin at that position. I think the only way we trade either of them is if we get a replacement D back, and even then I think it would have to be someone capable of playing 1LHD.

Honestly, I think we are mostly done. I could see us adding Ferland on a 2 year deal but that's about it.

Ray Shero isn't done. There will be a top 6 forward on the roster come October 4th that isn't a member of the organization right now.

I think, however, our 6 defenseman defenseman are set. Subban, Severson, Vatanen, Greene, Butcher, Smith. That's your defense core. Unless Sami Vatanen ends up being moved, which I don't foresee happening.

If we offer sheet Marner, they aren’t trading Zajac. They are trading Hall to get back some of what they gave up as compensation.

But let me be clear....they aren’t offer sheeting Marner.

I’m pretty sure in Ray’s mind, the top 6 forward is Simmonds.
