Eh, I think Zajac is a good leader. I think in terms of team contributions they're close. But the reality is that Dano won three cups here and Zajac won zero. You could say it's bad luck, but them's the breaks. If Zajac played for the Devils during Daneyko's years and vice versa, we'd probably have retired Zajac's number instead.

Sergei Brylin says you’re wrong, at least in terms of Cups being THE factor for a solid, unspectacular player getting a number retired.

I love Sergei Brylin like a little brother but he was nowhere near the player that Zajac is. Also, I hate to say it, but if he was Canadian and Dano was Russian... who knows.

That may be but Brylin was more popular and slightly overrated by Devils fans compared to Zajac who’s been more polarizing and frequently underrated. Neither guy fits the HOF/special circumstance for a number retirement in any case.

Dano’s Number is retired because he was basically with the franchise from the beginning (he was one of the team’s first draft picks) and played from the Mickey Mouse years through the Cup years.

There is a difference between a 20 year first generation player who stayed and achieved success and a guy who came after the success and has stayed chiefly because the team gave him a long-term secured contract.

just wonderin - i know it was prob talked about, but does trav end up w his # retired by the devils? or is he ring of honor? he's gonna jump past maclean and stevens for games played w us this season

No way imo.

Ring of honor, job in the front office for life, etc. But he hasn't accomplished enough here during his tenure to warrant retiring the number.

Unless we win three cups in the next 7 season or something lol

I am having trouble reading his body language and tone of voice when trying to see what his intentions are in terms of re-signing with the Devils.
Well it's obvious if you actually even watched the video. You can tell by the shoulder twitch at 2:17 that he will sign with the Devils as long as they win 7 of the first 10, any less and he walks. He might as well just put it in writing at this point with how obvious it is.

my swedish sources are telling me that the team has seen the video, and they’re concerned about a potential potassium deficiency. unless he gets his BPD (bananas per day) up, we’ll probably trade him prior to camp

Adding Linsey Vonn to the fold doesn't suck either. Although Blake Coleman does fine too and we had Jacob Josefson somehow pulling. Kathryn Tappen might be the last one I was this pleased about tho...

Edit: wow, the internet is amazing. Not moving to Sweden at some point was obviously the most major flaw in my life.

He couldn't score on the ice, but outside of it... hmmm

Maaaaaaaan it’s slow around these parts. We need a good Hall in contract negotiations rumor to spice things up until camp starts.

Smith made the team last year but lost out in the numbers/eligibility game. I put no “if” with it... he’s in the top 6 imo. He’s only gotten better since last camp and this kid is going to surprise people. The team won’t hold him back a grade again this year.
