Yeah, that is what I figured. I was just disappointed. Not saying it was rational disappointment..

I caught myself saying/thinking the exact same thing so I hear you, then I remembered him saying that. I feel like the D tried to join the rush more, but they were actually starting to do that last year.

I didn't think Brad was terrible, but I have no idea where these "one of the best players for the Rangers" posts are coming from. He was certainly no better than mediocre. He had a couple of nice shots, but that was it. He did absolutely nothing besides ripping two at the goalie when well set up by teammates. Frankly Kreider had the best passes of anyone on that line.

In order, according to my new ranking system:

J Moore looked freaking phenomenal.
Talbot looked great (goal was just a phenomenal shot labeled top corner).
Staal looked good.
Hank looked good.
Boyle looked good (but out of place centering that line - for the love of all that's holy, please move him to wing on the 4th line).
Kristo looked pretty good.
Kreider looked pretty good.
D Moore looked okay.
Nash looked okay.
MDZ looked okay.
Hrivik looked okay.
Richards looked mediocre.
Everyone else looked bad or worse.

Krist, Kreider and Boyle looked pretty good and Hrivik looked okay and Richards, mediocre?

Richards was our best forward, followed by Hrivik.

I'm not sure why people are saying Hrivik and Kristo were just okay, they both asserted themselves well and skated well. They made plays. They will be staying. I think Mashinter stays too.

Bodes well for McIlrath.

I'd rather McIlrath be in Hartford than be a depth Dman at this point. He is competing mainly with Stralman for that sixth spot. No way is Dylan going to beat out Moore or Del Z at this point.

I think he gets another year of development. There is no point making him a 7th Dman.

I especially like all the board work done by Hrivik and how he laid some solid hits. Wasn't afraid to use his size.

Fair point. We have a scoring adjustment - Hrivik has been moved up to pretty good right next to Kristo.

Both were hampered by playing with Boyle as their center IMO. This is despite the fact that Boyle played very well in his own right - his lack of footspeed and playmaking just limits him SOOOO much as a center.

Amazing how half the camp says Richards is the worst and half says he's near the best. I think we need to sit down as an entire board and talk about this issue.

Again, all he did was rip two shots on setups by his teammates. What else did he do other than glide and lose battles?

Skating better, good passes, threw everything at the net, engaged in front, feisty.

He looked fantastic for a guy who was a complete no-show last season.

I will say that the D were definitely trying to activate off the rush and in the offensive zone more. There were a few shifts early on, when the Rangers had some sustained pressure, where they also were spreading the points wide in the offensive zone and working it around looking for a point shot. A much more "modern" look if you will. Whether that was AV or something the players naturally did, time will tell I guess.

There were also flashes of the flip side of this. D were a bit jumpy in the dzone, looking to push the pace at times giving up chances. I am picturing one shift in particular where Staal was literally all over the D zone; left hash marks, up to the point, wound up on the right side of the ice. Likely rust on his part. Can't imagine that much scrambling (nice way of describing the headless chicken act) defensively is the gameplan.

Del Zotto and Staal have some good chemistry together, which we saw last year before Staal's injury. Hopefully they can keep that going this year because DZ will benefit mightily from a guy like Staal. All three of our regular defensemen looked pretty good tonight, expect for DZ's gaffe near the end when he was caught up ice.

I also noticed that the Rangers were retreating too much in D zone. If they had any whif of offensive zone pressure from the Devils they would dangerously move the puck deeper in the D zone. I don't think that is the game plan either. You got to get the puck at least out of the zone and force the opposition to regroup at the blue line.

I know its only one preseason game but so far i saw:
Richards looked much better than last year.

Boyle is still Boyle, please AV put him on the 4th line where he belongs.

Mashinter was terribad. my god i would rather have stu at forward.

speaking of Stu, how the **** did this guy ever play semi-consistantly in the NHL?

Moore had a decent game, i think he will help out depth this season.

other Moore looked fantastic.

Staal looked good most of the game and showed some flashes of greatness. i think he is back.

i didnt notice DZ too much, which for him is good on the defensive side but i was a little disappointed with him offensively.

offensively only the richards line, Kristo, Hrivik, Boyle and Moore looked like NHLers, which isnt surprising at all.

Yeah, I can see some chemistry its just too bad they are both lefties...

honestly, this may sounds awfully simplistic, but seeing Staal play the way he did, made me feel better than an hatrick from one of our up-and-comers
