I will say that the D were definitely trying to activate off the rush and in the offensive zone more. There were a few shifts early on, when the Rangers had some sustained pressure, where they also were spreading the points wide in the offensive zone and working it around looking for a point shot. A much more "modern" look if you will. Whether that was AV or something the players naturally did, time will tell I guess.
There were also flashes of the flip side of this. D were a bit jumpy in the dzone, looking to push the pace at times giving up chances. I am picturing one shift in particular where Staal was literally all over the D zone; left hash marks, up to the point, wound up on the right side of the ice. Likely rust on his part. Can't imagine that much scrambling (nice way of describing the headless chicken act) defensively is the gameplan.
