I only saw the 3rd period, but Talbs looked great and both Moores looked pretty good. Everyone else looked pretty solid except Bickel and Johnson(?). Didn't see enough of Falk or Mash. Did Asham play?

Richards on the wing with Brassard in the middle would make sense. Lindberg our 3rd C. I am just worried about the top line. Who joins Nash and Stepan? None of the options is really ready for top line duty.

It may just be wishful thinking but I'd love Kristo to snag a roster spot and slowly work himself up to that line. He has the skillset to succeed but might be a little ways away from that particular spot. I'd imagine there will be some roster shuffling to get the combinations AV feel comfortable with, but I'm thinking with the depth signings this off season for the bottom 6 roles, it might free up from top 6 minutes for a young blood to shine. Unfortunately (and in my humble opinion), i think the young player who can make a difference is more Kristo than Kreider.

It matters if your trying to create offense from the blueline. Especially when it comes to one timers. It doesn't have much impact on the defensive side of the puck however...

look last year at staal's numbers while playing with DZ. he was like 12th in scoring on the team despite playing half the year. offense was generated by that pairing.

I don't think thats saying much considering how offensively inept the team was last year...

Richards should retire with some dignity... Jeeeez.

Looks like Falk really wants to play for Hartford in the AHL, at least his play today screamed "Wolfpaaaaaack" lol

Moore, DZ and Staal looked solid.

Some hide Nash's sleeping pills... Wake up man!

not sure if youre kidding...i thought he was our best forward.

Thoughts from tonight, Moore played fantastic from the blue line, Richards' "improved" skating is a farce, he's still slow. That whole line did a ****** job back checking all game. If that doesn't change that line will be a liability out there. Kristo is fast as hell, competes hard, I hope he keeps his head up more as he had it down a little too much. Hrivik played ok. Brandon Ma****er can fight I'll give him that but God he's slow and useless. Asham got a lot of time and was ok, Powe sucks end of story, Dom Moore was good, MDZ looked lost on the right side and struggled, Staal seemed ok, Bickel, Johnson, and Falk all I can say is lol. Henrik was fine, Talbot impressed

Aside from sometimes looking like a guy that hasn't played in a year (oh wait) Staal looked like the guy he was last year. Monster in our zone, and .5ppg player

Aka, ****ing awesome

honestly, this may sounds awfully simplistic, but seeing Staal play the way he did, made me feel better than an hatrick from one of our up-and-comers

Right there with you on this one. Him being out of the lineup last year was a gigantic hole. Everybody is glad to see him back.

Just got around to watching it.

I'll give credit where it's due, the Devils dressed their C team and pulled out the victory. Good for them.

Rangers were decent.

Like Traverse City though, the two most important Qs turned out well. Staal was the best player on the ice, and Richards was arguably our best forward.

Man crush or not, Staal is a flat out dominant defenseman.

...yes....that's the point I was making. :p:

You never know around here, probably should have noticed it was you posting and one of the posters who shall remain nameless.

Not entirely sure I agree with everyone thinking Staal looked good, he had some plays where if I had to guess he didn't see everything 100%, or it was rust. Won't be too damning at this point because he missed so much time, but I'm not completely confident he'll ever return to form.

Will not make the team:
Bickel, O'Donnell, Powe, Asham, Johnson, and Bourque.

Played good:
Moore, Hrivik, Nash, Richards, Kreider, Boyle, Staal and DZ.

Impressed:
The other Moore, Talbot and Kristo.

Falk struggled but i still think he is #7D, Mash did what he is paid to do.

Bickel was fine stop harping on the kid ..
Kreider was ok far from good.
Dom Moore was excellent
Powe was powe. Ugh
Mashinter was solid and looked great inhis fight
Del zotto played well
Asham is funny as heck on the ice

I don't think Hrivik looked all that good...and I thought Kristo looked tentative. He picked up an assist, and had a few good chances, but I felt like he was waiting for the play to come to him rather than going out and getting it himself. Kreider of last year.

Kreider has had better games. I felt like he could have done a lot more. 1 game though, and the biggest thing I took away is that without having 4 good lines, the Rangers had absolutely no way of sustaining momentum, which is like 90% of the battle in hockey. Getting momentum and keeping it can win you most games. Rangers just couldnt string together consecutive productive shifts. Richards line did most of the damage in the offensive zone, the other lines sucked.

but, again, 3/4ths of them arent nhlers.

I know the Devils didnt ice their A team, but it felt like their team was a little more consistent and fluid, and on the same page than ours.

I think waiting 2 games to learn the system is a mistake, and im not sure what is to be gained by keeping it away from them, unless AV wants to tailor the system to the players...but I find it tough to believe he can put together a system that quickly...most coaches know what they want to do ahead of time.

Asham had some solid shifts, he looked pretty good...Bickel was meh....hes fine for a #8 or 9 defenseman, but i wouldnt want him as a regular.

Mashinter was meh, MDZ was meh...lots of meh to go around tonight. its a preseason game and the Rangers havent worked on systems at all. not really surprising.

...yes....that's the point I was making. :p:

I thought John Moore and Marc Staal were the standouts.

Kristo and Hrivik both looked alright. Dominic Moore looked good. Richards looked energized. John Moore looked confident, excited and ready to grab a bigger role. Staal looked great.

Mash was anything but solid, Dagoon. Dude can't skate to save his life. He's actually a liability every time he is on the ice for that reason alone. Kid is tough as nails, but he's just excruciatingly slow.
