What's Gallant gonna do at the presser? Throw everyone under the bus? The only thing he can do now with their backs against the wall is use honey instead of vinegar. Plead with them, not yell at them. Yelling at this point is useless.
Yah he played that card already and we saw the result. It was the same thing last year and oddly enough the button that worked was him just "letting them handle it" and apparently that's when Trouba stepped up.

Doubtful lightning strikes twice. The guy is in over his head.

It kind of feels like the letdown 1992-1993 Rangers team with high expectations the year before they won it all.

A more recent example is the 2015 Penguins that won two in a row after the Rangers made quick work of them.

Drury expended the assets to make a run this year. This was it. He's not going to have much maneuverability next year either unless a miracle happens and Panarin or Trouba get dealt for futures whilst retaining no cap hit.

I just don't see another 1994 happening next year. The Devils are our daddy and are only going to be better next year. You still have Toronto and Boston that are going to be very good.

The team as it is right now is talented enough to coast to a wild card spot next year, but not good enough to not get obliterated by any of those teams I mentioned last paragraph that will be the top dogs next year.
Everyone is kind of in that boat and the league is caving in on itself so it's hard to say what will happen.

I don't think it'll be impossible with some small adjustments and a bit of luck.

You mentioned the Pens. They had Jake Guentzel turn into Brett Hull and Connor Sheary turn into Jari Kurri literally out of nowhere.

Did everyone also love that part where Tarasenko had the puck at the goal line to Schmid's left and stared at Panarin but Panarin refused to leave the right wall like it was his first time on skates?

Yeah, I loved that part.

In a game we were chasing since the very first minute, the ice time seems really weird. Trouba led everyone with 22:32, and no forward played over 20 mins.

Mikkola and Schneider played more at 5v5 than Fox did. I know Fox was making mistakes in trying to (over)force the pace, but surely this is one of those games where he needs to play 25+?

Tarasenko played less than 11 mins 5v5 and less than 15 mins total.
How are we scoring goals and coming back if we're just happy rolling all lines and pairs evenly?

You can't win with a team of vegetarians and poets. We need meat eaters that will do 80 in a school zone and punch people in the face at clubs with poor lighting when they turn off the light before the beat drops. Not Kreider cosplaying edgar allan poe while playing the piano or Zibanejad skimming the whole foods hand squeezed almond milk selection and apologizing to women for blocking their view of display. This team cannot handle adversity. Only the good vibes when things are going right. Gorton identified and selected some of the softest and most pacifist players possible for this rebuild and we are stuck with them. Drury tried to bring in a few guys that are willing to battle but you can't expect the complimentary players to get the core players to become battlers.

We got a guy that beat up a cabbie. It hasn’t helped.

I already know what Drury is going to do this offseason as far as strategy. He's going to largely run the same core back next year a la Tampa after their sweep. Not wanting to blow it up and overreact and instead come back with the same group.

Legitimately good team loses in the first round playoffs because of variance and bad luck - don't overreact makes perfect sense.

Truly mid team loses after choking a 2-0 series lead and gets completely outclassed and embarrassed on their way to losing in the first round - trying to run back the same team will in all likelihood lead to a similar outcome.

Man, this really blows. With Carolina so banged up and the Islanders not being very good there was a clear path to another ECF appearance and from there who knows. Instead this team has beat themselves and now are most likely going to lose in 6 if their performance continues like this on Saturday. Just a really depressing missed opportunity. On top of the true missed opportunity of last season's run.

Also, sorry if I'm too rosy. I prepared for this, played this exact series (minus the early outburst) in my head, and finished processing a loss to the Devils in like January.

That's just me. You have a right to lash out.

Just proves that this core either takes care of it or doesn't, and Quinn couldn't get through and now Gallant got through for two seasons but not enough for two playoffs

At least last year when we were trailing and eventually came back, the team had shown the ability to score and stay in games. Even the blowouts in Pittsburgh we scored a ton. It never felt like we were out of any game in any of the three rounds.

This year we’re now facing elimination after 3 games where we went from meh to really bad to horrific disaster. Not once in the last 3 games has it felt like we had momentum and were putting on pressure. Random shifts minutes or periods apart and that’s it. Can probably count the total high danger chances we’ve had on Schmid on two hands. It really feels like this is over.

Imo Gallant choked the life out of the team by demanding perfect D play from everyone without bothering (knowing how to) set up an offensive system to go with it. Now we have the entire team stuck in neutral trying not to f*** up defensively and no idea how to go up the ice efficiently, especially against a trapping team, or any semblance of smart team movement in the o zone, or neutral zone, or d zone. It's too late to fix that, all that should have been done during the pre- and regular season.

The coaching must get better there's no way around it. I'm sure the players are playing as instructed so what the hell can they do. Then the coward coach blames the players for not magically/spaciously creating something out of nothing. All year this team has struggled against hustling and compact teams, starting with Winnipeg in game 3 of the season. Then San Jose game 5, then CBJ game 6 etc etc etc. And people told themselves those games were just bad breaks...
