Post-Game Talk: Devil V

I voted Rangers in 6. I was very wrong. I thought this team/core learned from last year's run. They have not, they are committing the exact same mistakes that sunk them.

I'm not going to bother to place blame on any particular player. They are who they are, nothing I say on a message board will change their nature.

What I will complain about are the the coaches, both in the NHL and AHL. The backroom staff need a complete overhaul, get real professionals in there and not ex-players. The Rangers are wasting talent and it has got to stop if real success - a cup - is to be had. The hedging need to end. They either commit to a true rebuild or continue buying mercs. Either way, just funding commit!

Anywho...Devils earned their wins. Are they much more talented than the Rangers. Only time will tell. Ultimately it really doesn't matter. What does matter is this Devils team listened to their coaches and adjusted. Not only did they adapt, they continue to stick with the game plan. A lesson of teamwork, not just among players, but between coaches and players as well.

I typed more than I planned and definitely more than what this Ranger team deserve. Y'all have a good night and see you folks next game.

There's no gameplan or adjustments.

Puck support has been horrendous.

The entire modern game is predicated on puck support, puck movement and moving/attacking/defending as a unit/team. We're stuck in the 20th century. Is that the only problem? No. but it's a massive part of why we suck 5v5

We have great talent... but they are too much alike. The top of the PP is all the same play style. Take off Kane and add Tank. We need shooters. Take Trouba off of PP2... wtf are you watching?

Listen.

I love you people. This organization isn't that appealing. I do it for the community.

Try not to freak out too much. This team can get better. Honestly, we need to get beat to have any hope of recognizing the holes.

I trumpeted all year that a first round exit is the team we have this year. I don't do that to annoy you, I just didn't want everyone to get sucked into it. The Rangers destroyed my cause in the first two games and then proceeded to play the exact series I expected in games 3-5. f***ing trolls.

The ECF run was nice for experience and showed that they do have a bit of fight. I know nobody wants to hear it, but it's the same humans. They didn't forget. They're just not that good right now.

That run was very fortunate. This gives us a much clearer picture of where we actually are. We need to improve.

There are still pieces here I like that we can build on. We have the best defenseman in the league and five games isn't changing my opinion.

I know trust is low but I kind of get some of what Drury did and hopefully he identifies the right things in the summer.

Teams and cores have gotten to the Cup after worse.
It kind of feels like the letdown 1992-1993 Rangers team with high expectations the year before they won it all.

A more recent example is the 2015 Penguins that won two in a row after the Rangers made quick work of them.

Drury expended the assets to make a run this year. This was it. He's not going to have much maneuverability next year either unless a miracle happens and Panarin or Trouba get dealt for futures whilst retaining no cap hit.

I just don't see another 1994 happening next year. The Devils are our daddy and are only going to be better next year. You still have Toronto and Boston that are going to be very good.

The team as it is right now is talented enough to coast to a wild card spot next year, but not good enough to not get obliterated by any of those teams I mentioned last paragraph that will be the top dogs next year.

Well, if only we did have the worst players, most gutless people, dumbest coaches, then at least the "fans" would deserve them.

You guys (half of whom seemed to think we were so good we might win the whole thing) now hate everything we've done, hate all the players etc etc.

We've made huge improvements over the last few years. We aren't one of the best teams in the league. We still have a chance to come through this.

Don't disagree with this assessment.

that's embarrassing.

We looked this bad last season against Pittsburgh in game 3 and 4.... hopefully they flip the swtich again?
Something feels different this year. I don't know what it is. Just feels like they are done.

Vally is right. They aren't a team. They are just a bunch of stars doing their own things. There is no cohesion. They are playing a perimeter game with only 1 guy paying attention at a time. No one is chasing. No one is crashing.

They are two steps behind at all times. And I don't mean behind the Devils. I mean behind themselves. Passes are off. They are missing-handling passes. Losing pucks. Shooting garbage shots.

I hope they turn it around but this team just shuts down at any adversity. Just look at the shots of the bench. They were sulking. Sulking... Not mad. Not pissed. Sulking. That's embarrassing.

Was Marchand sulking last night when they went down? Hall? Tkachuk? No, they tried to take the game over. Our team just had a pity-party with 2 shots in the third.

What's Gallant gonna do at the presser? Throw everyone under the bus? The only thing he can do now with their backs against the wall is use honey instead of vinegar. Plead with them, not yell at them. Yelling at this point is useless.

Lol at the people talking about retiring his number. He’s a bum.
There is a world of difference between the players with jerseys hanging from the rafters and Chris Kreider, that's for damn sure. Kreider has been a Top 6 forward with us for nearly a decade, and he does (mostly) elevate his game when it matters most. But he's done NOTHING to come remotely close to having his number retired.

We can debate Graves all we want, but he was the heart and soul of those teams from 1991-1997 that always had a shot at winning the Cup, and would do ANYTHING to protect his teammates. I like Kreider, but he is far from being that guy.

I did not watch the third period and judging by the posts here, that was the right call. I try not to get too up or down on a game by game basis, but seriously… f*** this team. How do you score 10 goals in 2 games and then 2 goals in the next 3? Schmid has not been that good. He just hasn’t been tested much.

Does anyone else here remember our system other than dump and chase for decades?

that's what happens when there's literally zero gameplan/structure to follow. No one knows what the other is doing.
