Its easy to dump on the kids who are in complimentary roles in this stage of their careers..even more comical how certain posters refuse to dump on the veteran leaders of the team who have been complete no-shows.you know who you are.

In this series? I guess but honestly what does he do out there that makes you notice a 6’3” 220lb guy who’s supposedly so embarrassed and pissed off? Is that not fair to ask?
Just my opinion, and I don't wanna drag this into a whole thing: we have the puck so much when he's on the ice that he's rarely in a situation where he can be noticably physical. It would be interference.

The Rangers got absolutely smoked tonight and still had two-thirds of the shots and 80% of the chances when Kreider was on the ice.

He appears to be low-effort because him retrieving the puck doesn't require effort. He boxes his man out every single time and his positioning along the boards is perfect. Him hitting a lot would be wasted energy at best and a penalty at worst.

Kakko can and will get by on physical tools. Maybe he'll find a way to refine his game to become a solid top-6 guy. Maybe he'll find another gear after the "you should be better" feeling wears off.

Lafrenier can be swapped out for Leschyshyn next game, and it'll make zero difference.

Chytil has been a non-factor too, but don't wanna harp on him when everyone else sucks too.
Curtis would show more heart than both those players. then again half of Hartford wp could. Bring up some players and bench some tired stars. Not gonna happen with gg here.

I will always appreciate Kreider, even if I'm calling him a bitch.
His optics problem is that he pretty much came into the league at (what we thought was) his peak. The speed + size were there, but the skill/results didn't improve over time.
Then he evolved his game, and became a better player, but leaves me questioning where the og Chris went. He's still big and strong in front of the net. But where's the speed and aggression? I can't remember the last time he threw a big hit.

I want the best of both worlds.
He used to take a ton of penalties and figured out how to be just as effective without doing that.

Agree to disagree my dude

If it's bad enough that Gorton designed the build around players who are passive skill and no grit, they are one dimensional skill players with niche specialties.

I doubt that's what he planned. He wanted a talented core that he'd supplement with grit, the net going grit that is missing now. But he got canned before he could finish, and tbh Drury was awful his first summer with a string of badly botched trades. And now Kane and Tank (even if I like him) in the top 6 is not what this team needs to balance it out, not with Panarin already here. There needs to be 3 grit for 1 Panarin. They got Laf to in the draft unexpectedly. This is one reason they want Laf to be grittier but he lost important development along the way.

In lighter news, with his assist tonight Howden now has more points than any of our 3 'kids'...
