Post-Game Talk: Devil IV

Spent years hoping to take control of the series and be ahead. It's not fun at all. It's way more fun to just be behind twoo and go balls to the wall and nothing matters being up. f***ing sucks. This series is f***ing over

Devils changed the goalie but he's not the difference.

Hope we have some bullshit tactic up our sleeve to change this back

Next two games won't be competitive. Devils win. We're out

One of the things of consequence the Devils changed is that began roughing up Igor. Rangers have not responded in ANY appreciable way. They are treating the rookie devil keeper like a HOFer.

Devils expected to showtime in Newark. We expected to showtime after the 2 blowouts. It's been pretty damn even since G3. A pair of 2-1 wins doesn't mean NJ dominated. It's been close. NJ has changed their game completely to being defensive and stiff on the walls and managing the puck better.
Yup. The narrative coming in was these young, speedy, small Devils could not play playoff-style hockey. That narrative was clearly wrong.

Hughes is going to be a pain in our asshole for a decade plus.
Kid couldn't even make a clean pass in the first two games because he was so scared. If you pressure him and/or hit him he cant do anything. He is a perimeter player. Very talented yes but just watch where he stays in both zones. He is the most sheltered player in the league.

I think all of the people saying that they didn't try hard are saying this because the alternative of the best collection of talent we've had since 1994 is not good enough to beat this Devils team is too hard of a pill to swallow. This franchise is bottom of the barrell. Haven't had a real contender in 30 years. Even that team was one Nathan Lafayette post away from us hearing 1940 at the garden in 2023.

What's even more odd, I don't even really dislike the Devils in this series other than Meier. They are doing what they need to do. I'm infinitely more infuriated with the Rangers here. That itself feels so weird to me.

That says it all doesn't it, this team isn't even that good.
It's not.

It's just sexy on paper.

If we had Kane from 2010, Tarasenko from 2017, and half of what Lafreniere and Kakko were supposed to be, then yeah, we'd be the best team in the league.

That being said, I don't necessarily subscribe to the doomy "this is as good as it gets" mentality. We can and should put a better product on the ice.

We just need the front office to wake up and address actual problems that continue to fester. This organization desperately needs to get over the mentality of having a token PMD and everyone else is either Dan Girardi or a dump truck. Also, paging management: the Rangers were fast NINE PISSING YEARS AGO and have gotten slower every year since. I don't think you need to be the fastest team ever to win but we have nobody (like a Hagelin, just for example) who's gonna go in and get the puck in a game like this.

Again, I like Tarasenko as a player and Kane, analytics be damned, is way better than I expected, but were they addressing anything fundamentally wrong with this team? No.

Devils were in no danger of losing this game. If we are to have any chance of winning the series, team needs to get nasty.

Honestly Devils didn't do shit either. A goal that Igor stops 99 out of 100 was the difference.
This is the only thing that gives me hope.

If the Devils try to open it up again and turn this into a track meet and get away from what they did the last two games, the Rangers will prevail.

There is no way the compete level is the same from Games 1&2 and Game 4.

They couldn't even complete passes with infinite amounts of team. No one was going to the net. That has nothing to do with NJ defense. Their whole gameplan changed to the worse.

Simple things were not being done.
