This has been an issue Gallant's entire tenure, but, it's been especially bad these last 2 games (egregious in game 4) - getting the f***ing puck out of the zone. I don't know if they're trying too hard to avoid turnovers but you need puck support exiting the zone. The D take too long to survey the outlets and move the puck, it really hurts the transition game and is one of the reasons we:
Could not establish a forecheck, and bang bodies in behind their net. No wonder why MSG's been dead. The crowd responds to long shifts of o-zone time where you're outworking the opposition. The 3rd line (f*** calling them the kid line when all of them can buy a beer) was the only line doing that at all, but I still wasn't impressed because they just cannot finish chances. Otherwise the best we can muster are low% perimeter shots. Yes Trochek scored off that rebound but that's also a heady play by Kane to recognize the 2 players in front. Kane shot the puck right at Kreider instead of floating one over to Schmid.
Hopefully they find that magic they had in games 1 & 2, but imo it's doubtful. Devils have fully adjusted their game and are playing quick to pucks, not focusing as much on the physicality. Have to readjust and win game 5 otherwise it's done. The Devils can fully lock it down and pounce on opportunities just like Tampa did to us last year. They have game-breaking speed and we do not. The PP woes are directly due to what the Devils are doing right. What are we 0-8 on PPs the last 2 games? Need to find a way to get the PP working, is it really that easy to figure out after 2 outings? Devils are getting better with each game, in every area. And we're getting worse.
