I have never believed Jagr comparison. Cause if the was the case, he would have been the consensus choice at 1st. Imo we got a player that will have the same kind of Impact than a guy like Brady Tkachuk.
Maybe. Different players. Tkachuk is mean while Slaf does admittedly have a better shot and hands.

No offense but anyone actually pointing out developmental flaws in prospects at a developmental camp, need to step away from their laptops and go enjoy some summer fun.

They'll be plenty of time to pick apart these players games...this ain't one of those times.

It was 4 on 4 the little speedsters were going to shine and its not like slaf looked awful he's def showing off some of his puck protection skills , he's not gonna go all out full forecheck and plaster a guy in the corner at dev camp either

I base all my prospect projections on 4 on 4 intra team scrimmages. I would have preferred 3 on 3 for more guaranteed projections, but I'll take it.

The puck between the leg dangle won’t work in the NHL. However, zero worries about his puck protection and board battles. He’s a puck possession machine along the boards and rarely loses the puck.
It’s very poor etiquette to start doing everything yourself, physically dominating and not involving your teammates in these types of inter-team scrimmages.

For the same reason Colorado picked Lekhonen
"Ceilings" are often overblown anyway. Sure, personal skills is important, but it's also about who's fitting where. We all agree that Lehky is nowhere near a true 1st line player, yet he played so f***ing well with Mack and Rantanen on their way to the cup because he could keep up with them and complement their game. It's all about having good duos, like Suzuki and Caufield is a good duo, and then you plug whoever fits with them. We need another duo for our top 6, hopefully it's Slaf and Bedard :naughty:

Huge agree to disagree on driving the play. He's a exploitational guy. He doesn't seem to think the game fast enough to drive the play

I meant as driving the play : the guy that has the puck, is around the puck, creates offensive plays out of nothing, always wants the puck. The speed at which he thinks the game is still an open question. I don’t know what you mean by exploitational.

A person that drives the play is the engine that drives offense on a line. If you want an example of who was doing that today, Lane Hutson.

When Slaf tries to do that, the play dies on his stick and he looks like Lars Eller reborn. An exploitational guy is someone that finishes off plays, which is fine... But I was hoping for better with a 1st overall

Best news ever. No expectations to see him on a 1st line right from the start. Send him to Laval. Make him learn pro hockey in North America. Let see him being develop THE RIGHT WAY.
I was not thinking about it that way. But you are right. Given the questions around our last top 3 picks, better to play it safe. and better to build in those expectations now, for everyone including the player.

He needs a LOT of work. Hope they take their time with him, but I have no faith in this ownership to be patient

This is the first time these prospects can be viewed in Habs jerseys. Why is it surprising that people will be eager to have an opinion. It's not like we're looking at Caufield/Guhle/etc who've been in organization for years.

This is the dream. No need for him to be in NHL right now.

Oh it's not surprising to see people reaching obvious and far-reaching conclusions from prospects at a developmental camp.

It ain't my first rodeo, sir.

I don’t have an accurate gauge of his hockey IQ, the speed he thinks the play, how good is his passing game, the quality of his defensive game, for example. I’ll debate you that he has more than none of those traits, but I won’t on how much. For me, it‘s still tough to tell.

I will debate he is the one that drives the play on a line. Forget about the scrimmage. In real life, aside from Lane Hutson, he’s the one that drives the play the most of all the players you saw today. Furthermore, he’s the only one that can drive a play in the NHL, as of right now,

And using your definition of driving the play in the NHL, he’s the only one in the Top-10 that meets it now. And please don’t tell me Shane Wright who is a pure finisher and passes the puck not to cleverly break the play open. He passes the puck (very well) to keep the play going long enough to get in a position to finish.

You can't judge too much from camp but also if the organization drafted this kid as anything other than a project I definitely question their judgement.
You dont draft a project at 1OA. I had wanted Wright, I want to be Wrong.

They're all projects at the draft.

If you draft a player whose reached his potential on draft day, then he is what he is and never will be more.
