Earlier in development camp, Hutson was near the boards when Callum Chisholm, a camp invitee who is 6-foot-5, 218 pounds, got a hold of him and drilled him into the wall. Hutson essentially disappeared as Chisholm smothered him. But Hutson bounced back up and continued playing as if nothing happened. This showdown with Slafkovsky for a 50-50 puck seemed like another one of those moments.

As Hutson and Slafkovsky made their way toward that puck in the corner, there was a sense of anticipation as to how Hutson would manage this situation. But before Slafkovsky could even do anything, Hutson managed it just fine.

With one hand on his stick, Hutson reached around Slafkovsky and poked the puck up the boards before any kind of physical encounter could even take place. In fact, this is what Hutson did all day. That one hit from Chisholm was basically the only time Hutson got touched.

Moments later, when Slafkovsky had the puck along the side wall, he tried to deke Hutson between the legs, as he did to several other players throughout the afternoon. Except he didn’t do it to Hutson, who coolly took the puck away from him and got his team another possession in the drill.

When that was brought up to Hutson later, he smiled. He remembered.

Sean Farrell stands out

The 20-year-old, who posted 10 goals and 28 points in his first season at Harvard after torching the USHL with 101 points in 53 games in 2020-21, looked like the best player on the ice on Monday.

The skill is so obvious. The smarts, too.

And it was impossible not to be impressed by the maturity Farrell displayed in stating after practice that he remains committed to returning to Harvard in the fall.

Never mind that he put up three goals and six points at the Beijing Olympics or that he had another six points in 10 games at the world championships. Farrell still feels there’s plenty for him to continue learning at the college level.

“I think for me, I just want to try to be a leader and kind of be a guy that they can lean on to win our league, win the Beanpot and hopefully compete for a national championship,” he said.

There were more than a couple of people in the Canadiens brass who, judging by what they saw on the ice on Monday, believe Farrell will achieve that.

His peers were impressed, too.

“Aside from the big guy, he really caught my attention,” said Hutson, who competed against Farrell in the USHL and admires his skill and hockey sense.

Oh, and just getting back to the question up top about what it must have felt like for players to be on the ice with Poulin and Lecavalier, Farrell was blown away.

“It’s awesome,” he said. “Those two are such legends in the game of hockey and just to be able to be around them and Marty St. Louis at this camp is really special.”

Pierrick Dubé started last year with 3R, where he put up 4 pts (1G, 3A) in 10 GP.

He then went back to Junior and played with the Q champs Shawinigan Cataractes:

Regular season: 44 pts (19G, 25A) in 36 GP
Playoffs: 18 pt (12G, 6A) in 16 GP
Memorial Cup: 2 pts (1G, 1A) in 4 GP
I'm fairly certain this doesn't conform to our language standards. :dunno:Being numerical can you get away with that?

On that shift you mean? Or in that one game?

People laughed at how some seem to put all their eggs in Slaf based on his international play. It's an odd decision as we always hear ''don't judge this kid based on his World Junior Championship, as it doesn't mean anything''.

Remember, if we based ourselves on that...Romanov and Poehling would be absolute studs on our team now, but as we know, that's far from being the case.
So, let's wait it out..

Except it just wasn't one tournament, it was 3. Hlinka-Gretzky against his own age group where he dominated, the Olympics & the World Championships. He looked ptetty good in the 2 WJC games before the cancelation too.

The only place he didn't play great was in Liiga, which is probably why they want him to play in North America next season. They'll have better control over his development too.

Habs brought Sheldon Kennedy and Bruno Gervais (who works with Kennedy in his Group Respect program) to their development camp to talk to the players about many things like inclusiveness, abuse, harassment, and all of these subjects.

Kennedy said that the program the Habs launched after drafting Mailloux shows leadership and innovation. He mentioned that he doesn't go see all 32 teams. So he is thankful the Habs are taking this approach.

They met with Mailloux and came away very impressed with his maturity and how grounded he is. They mention that the kid wasn't nervous and although it's an uncomfortable subject for him, he didn't shy away from talking about it. He also shared with them all the things he's doing and all the steps he's taking to move on from it. Gervais said that he's happy the Mailloux is turning something negative into a positive.

Slaf at WJC, I’m not sure. Probably rather see training in Montreal with NHLers. Long term, I would like to see Hossa reach out and train with him. Hos said Slaf is a better player than he was at his age, but that he also still has lots of room to grow and stuff to work on. If there is one Slovak former player that could help Slaf reach his potential, it’s him.

As for Mesar, to me OHL is best option. Jake Neighbours was still in juniors this past season and he is way more pro ready physically than Mesar. Mesar and Pinelli as a duo in Kitchener would be good, and Mesar would get lots of ice time and be the first option on the PP.

He also said that about his brother. And look at how it turned out.

Depends if we get playoff version Armia.

Armia when he wants, is a beast, with a good shot to boot. Our most enigmatic player by far.

Anyway, would be an interesting pairing tbh.

Armia looks better when he plays with talent vs bottom 6. He's not consistent but there is a factor due to bouncing forwards all over the roster all season long.

There are several players who will rebound this season if we don't get into injury trouble again. Several Habs fans are undervaluing that.

Haven't read the whole thread yet but quick impressions who looks good? Who's disappointing?
I’m just a fan, but Slaf apparently broke the exercise bike when the cardio coach asked him to go as hard as possible… There is a video! Lmao

It's not a lack of desire with Armia. He just lacks quickness, both physically and mentally. He needs an extra half second to make the right decision or snipe the puck. When he's under pressure he can't do much besides protect the puck on the boards.
