Detroit Redwings Downfall

That's Detroits biggest issue imo. Larkin is treated like a superstar when he isn't one.
Yzerman is a pretty proud guy for better or worse. I'd imagine he is pretty furious with Larkin's comments here. We will see what happens, but a trade isn't out of the question. Obviously that sets Detroit back quite a bit though and this thread will be alight afterwards lmao.

Who knows? A Larkin trade and McKenna next summer might be the final piece this core needs.

I doubt Yzerman is nearly as affected by these comments as HFBoards is lol.

I agree tanking next season might be better for Detroit longterm than sneaking into playoffs. At the same time. That'll be wild if Yzerman is allowed to Tank out Year 7 of his tenure and survive through it.

I mean, what exactly do people want then? If we get better, ya'll think its the wrong move. If we get worse and get McKenna, it's crazy that Yzerman is surviving it. It just sounds like it's lose lose.

What makes you think that? He shipped out Walman and attached a 2nd to him to do it based on rumors that he was supposedly not the best in the dressing room.

Umm... You think Yzerman shipped out Walman based on rumors that he was a bad locker room presence?

... Weird. I think it was because of his direct knowledge that Walman was a bad locker room presence.

Um...what confirmation do we have that he had direct knowledge that Walman was a bad locker room presence? You mean to say...we have rumors..on HFBoards...that he was a bad locker room presence?

You just separated 2 things that aren't separate lol. Larkin's comments leading to friction with management is being reported across media right now. That's exactly what happened with Walman, and then it was used as justification for the trade after the fact.

Not every GM survives out an entire rebuild. Just how the business works. I'm sure every GM would say "just give me 12 years and I'll get it right" but it's rare to play out that way.

You literally just said "He shipped out Walman and attached a 2nd to him to do it based on rumors that he was supposedly not the best in the dressing room."

You think a GM of a team isn't actually aware of his player's locker room presence, and makes the decision to move him based on rumors, rather than his own actual knowledge?

No, I obviously don't think that. I'm saying rumors are often based on truth. In the case of Walman, it looks like it was truth. For the same reason, I believe it is silly to completely ignore Larkin rumors given that guys like Petes2424 have posted about the possibility of a trade too, and now the wider media is reporting on his discontent. It's easy to hand-wave away every rumor as "just media BS" but very often it has basis in truth.

How are you justifying the claim?
Being amongst the top lottery odds several times since 2019, including the best odds in 2020, and never winning. And where are the burgeoning stars picked in late rounds? Too early for '23 and '24, but there's nothing from before. Are you saying they haven't been unlucky?

This isn't a rumor he literally directly came out and said something.

Just like he literally cried in front of the media when Bertuzzi and Hronek were traded and yet he's still here...

Shoulda traded a 1st + for Laughton level player. That woulda made you a better captain for sure Larkin!

Larkin mentally weak. Lots of late season collapses under his captaincy.

While Larkin is absolutely correct that Yzerman should have added at the deadline (as evidenced by the entire locker room being upset that no meaningful moves were made), he's also at fault for them failing to make the playoffs because he completely vanished when it mattered the most.

Nick Suzuki did everything Larkin couldn't do and led his team to the playoffs.
