They've never addressed the 2c. Can't have Kane being centered by coop. Should have made a real run at necas when they were talking about trading him.

Haven't watched a Wings game since the Jets beat them, so I'm not qualified to comment on them. Defense seems like it could use a Sergachev in the top 3. Maybe that's in the future?
Husso was a curious signing. One good year really. When does the Cossa era arrive?
Are Copp and Compher good enough top 6 players to propel the Wings into a playoff spot? Seems like if or when the young guys push them down to 3rd line players the Wings will be competitive again.

Cossa is rocking the AHL's 2nd best Sv% and GAA (min 10GP).
If he keeps anything close to this up you'll see him in NHL games this season and he might be on the NHL roster next season.
As for the defense, Edvinsson/Seider/Pellikka is the core. Wallinder and Buium are probably the highest potential of the "B" prospects.

Copp is and isn't and that's why he sometimes play in the top-6. Although I wouldmn't say we have a top-6 more like a top-5 (Larkin, DeBrincat, Raymond, Compher and Kane). Then we have Kasper, Berggren, Copp and Tarasenko competing for the last top-6 spot.
Copp does have 5 goals which is on par with a decent 2nd line center.
Cossa is progressing well in the A and should probably get a cup of coffee in the bigs this season.
Defense core is for now Seider and Edvinsson with hopefully ASP coming in to round out the top-3 and then one or more of Buium/Wallinder/Johansson rounding out the bottom-6.
When it comes to defense core and prospects. I'm not too worried. As there is also Viro, Tuomisto, Cleveland, Anton Johansson and Keenan as possible bottom-4 defensemen.

Usually how it works as the boss, get credit or criticism for your pro and amateur scouts. Does Yzerman take less criticism for signing guys like Holl because it was his pro scouts who may have recognized him as a fit?

Short term I hate how this team is constructed.
Slow small statured forward group. That have a considerable skill gap to most teams they come up against on a nightly basis.
With the worse 2nd defense pairing in the league.
Long term, Im quietly excited by the make up of the team. From a pesky forward group with an underrated skill set. To a defense core that are smooth skating and with size to spair.
With two blue chip goalie prospect to boot.

if everyone was being honest there are massive amounts of luck involved with the majority of prospects. Teams try to minimize it as much as they can but, in the end, they are drafting kids and hoping a lot of things break right over the course of the next five years for them to become quality NHLers.
I've been saying for months, possibly even a year that Yzerman is a shit GM.
I think people are finally starting to see it.
And It's not changing anytime soon.
at bestDetroit is like a hamster running on a hamster wheel.
at worst they are like trying to push a boulder up a hill but the boulder keeps rolling back down to the bottom.

People say this but it's kind of the opposite, which is why the casuals/outsiders are getting impatient and the knowledgeable fans who pay attention to prospects and big picture are less stressed.
Yzerman has refrained from splashy, big-name trades or UFA signings, in general. Prospects are given time in europe, juniors or AHL. While signing Chiarot, Holl, Copp and acquiring Petry may seem like "rebuild-ending moves" to some, in reality they are placeholders exactly because Yzerman doesn't want to rush the rebuild by promoting prospects who aren't ready or spending major futures to acquire short-term help.
Okay, so any and all improvement is meaningless unless you lose in the 1st round?

Yes, he is letting the prospects in the system simmer and mature, which is great. But the problem is none of the prospects currently in the system are Bedard, Fantili, Michkov, Celebrini etc. caliber elite blue chip prospects. Edvinsson will be fantastic I think but he isn't carrying you to a Cup. The mediocre trades and UFA signings ensured that the Wings stayed in no man's land and weren't bad enough to draft any top 2 picks.

Edvinsson looking like a hit with the Number 6 pick certainly is a promising development for the Wings long-term outlook.
I think you can give Yzerman the credit for not whiffing on any top draft choices so far like they did before him with Rasmussen (who is meh) and Zadina (who is already back in Europe). The more middling and Bonus 1st round picks will be a TBD and go a long way to if the Wings have a real "window" or not. Then they haven't had any real homeruns emerge outside of the first round, but it's very possible time will look back and just say those weren't great years to be stockpiling draft picks and there is not going to be a deep slate of high impact players.
All goes to a point that rebuilds have a lot of luck involved and the cult of personality either positive or negative surrounding hockey executives is likely overblown.
