Detroit Red Wings 23/24 season thread

You know, I've never paid attention to the all star game, but I'm going to skip it extra hard this year.

13 slots being taken up by players from Toronto, Vancouver, Colorado makes it pretty unwatchable TBH.

50 games played and Wings has 4th most goals. Nice!
1. Colorado 190
2. Vancouver 186
3. Dallas 183
4. Detroit 176
5. Tampa 175
6. Boston 173
7. Toronto 166
8. Vegas 163
9. Carolina 163
10. NY Rangers 161

This is quite the breath of fresh air. One of the hardest part of being a Wings fan the last decade was the anemic offense.

I know there were a lot of questions about the lack of scoring from some signings and moves, so it's really great to see the team can generate scoring and as a unit rather than one or two guys.

4th in scoring (6th in goals per game) but nobody in the top 10 for goals or points. That's a hell of a team effort.

Those "all season" -charts are a bit misleading. That's a chart of our early season problems, which are far behind. I'd like to see split stats, per 20-21 games, and four different parts of the season.

That would be nice to see the changes, have you been able to make positive/negative development on some certain area.

I can’t say I’m real fond of this 10 day break
Same, it feels like it's been months since Wings played. Bye week is good for the players but men what a misery it's for the fans.

All star game is crap, i find it extremely boring and unnecessary event. If they must have it, i have a idea to make it better. Since women have their "NHL" now, let's make it a womens all star team versus mens all star team or a "mixed-tag". 12 forwards, 8 defenseman and 2 goalies per team, and skill contest where all the players participate. And the game after the skill contest, it would be slightly intresting than the current event.

I don't know about that. The women wouldn't touch the puck once.

Ultimately the only offensive stat that matters is goals scored.
The analytics haven't been kind to Detroit but I think that has to do with how they play. When they have possession they like to take time to set up high percentage chances. They aren't a volume shooting team, which analytics love. That's not to say there aren't issues though. I just think it's more sustainable than the analytics suggest. We haven't had a team that passes this well in years.

I'm hopeful that now that the crazy travel of December is over they tighten their systems a bit. Mainly having occasional practice now. The previous 5 games or do they seem to have turned a corner with better defensive zone results.

Yep.

Those simple anaytics are just WRONG.

Red Wings team create better chances than Moneypuck or Natural stat trick models will count on their poor data. That has been obvious for years, with certain teams, how they play. Some teams, who play with volume shooting, are more in line, but also a bit overrated.

But it depends how the team will play.

The becoming schedule is a bit road-heavy.

Next 25 games, 10 at home, 15 on road.

That was great stats to see. Too bad I don't have full access to Sneijder data.

It's still very interesting data of how we will play. Where we are good and where are (purpusly) bad.

Sill, I think we need more this.

Calling him slow Helm is now an insult to Helm. He's got one less point than Fischer. He's not even a 3C anymore, he's putting up AHL tweener numbers.

I don't think you can even trade him as a cap dump with a pick. IMO if we didn't have a ton of guys coming up on ELCs he would get bought out next off-season.

Going into that off-season a few guys here were screaming for Copp and I wanted no part of him.

Dude, respectfully. I understand that you hate Copp with the fire of a thousand suns and his cap hit pains you like you're paying it yourself, but is it really necessary to make this same point in multiple threads?

Copp and his 13ish minutes of ESTOI is not the biggest reason the Wings are in a 7 game skid. They're a defensive shit show and being a responsible forward is one of the few things Copp is good at. Well, that and faceoffs. And he's a pretty good PK guy.

I would love for the Wings to be in a position where Copp was the biggest problem on the team.

Yeah losing streaks suck, all the usual talking points get amplified ten fold.
