Detroit Red Wings 23/24 season thread

Fun fact. We have 13 players with the same, and 11 with more goals than Tim Stützle
i hate that I went on hockey-reference and looked at our players stats.

Ghost with a sexy -16 and raymond at that thot of a -12. This bothers me lol

I'm honestly at the point where I want to put DBC - Larks - Raymond back together. Esp if Kane is banged up, but even before that it was starting to feel like DBC and Kane were forcing looks at each other and they've been snakebit. They had a hot run of 6-7 games in the middle but were cold before and after. No reason Kane can't feed Perron or Sprong. That and it gets Perron off the top line. Yes they had a good goal last night, but as a whole, it isn't working.

dbc just needs to hit the net on these forced feeds because they are put in a place he should be snapping them but he keeps missing. Maybe kane just needs to put less umph on the pass or they need to practice the one-timers more.

Yes, but he's not. So let Kane pass to others for a while.

December was really unkind to them. A lot of our guys had their stats nosedive last month.

EDIT: Just checked the gamelogs. Ghost went -15 from December 7 to January 2. Not a single game in the positives. That's the stretch the wheels fell off Detroit's wagon, beginning with an OTL against San Jose of all f***ing teams.

Raymond was -14 in the same stretch, with a game of -4 helping along the way. Only positive was a 3 point night against San Jose on January 2nd.

If you take out December, Ray is +4 on the season...

He must have gotten screwed on a ton of partial line changes or something as he's #1 with a bullet at -16 in 15 games that month.

On the brightside, that should mean Ghost will be a +10 next year if we were to re-sign him

Raymond is -2 in his last five games, simply because he is with Larkin on first line and that line playing against the best from other teams.

Meanwhile Pit and WSH won, so the WC's a dead heat. Phi also won, so much for Torts being a washed up dinosaur, that team is still somehow overachieving. I guess they don't allow a lot of shots when Ersson plays, 2.33 GAA on .910 SV%.

I'm hopeful that Capitals and Islanders will fall off. Devils are likely to rebound soon, so that leaves 4 teams chasing 2 wild card spots.

On paper i'd say that the other 3 teams, Devils, Pens and Lightning are better. But i'm still cautiously optimistic, after such a bleak December it's encouraging to see them come back in this fashion. It's clear that they have compete.

I'm not giving up on catching Toronto, who lost again last night. Lots of bad vibes over there lately...

Islanders lost last night which is encouraging. My biggest concern is New Jersey right now.

I agree. Toronto and TB are both very catchable. Toronto has some glaringly big holes on D and in goal. As games get tighter and have more of a playoff atmosphere they might struggle. I could actually see TB come on strong an outpace them too.

All I want is for the Wings to be competitive down the stretch. It's going to be a hard pull to get a WC spot but I want to see these guys lock in and really go for it. Health is going to be a major factor because this team nose dives if Seider or Larkin go out for a large stretch. Probably the same can be said for Lyon.

Still wouldn't mind seeing Stevie deal a forward and/or dman at the deadline to open up space for Berggren and Ed. I think Fabbri and Maata could get a decent return at the deadline and it helps open up some space to keep Kane/Sprong after this year whom I like more than Fabbri. I feel like both of those guys will be a lot harder to deal in the off season when there are likely more free options.

I just hope we find a way to get in the playoffs and cause a little chaos.

I don't even care about draft position, just draft whatever Russian slides in the draft that shouldn't. Happens every year. Or honestly we are getting to the point where I would really consider trading our first round pick for established players that are on the trade block (Zegras or comparable type players)

I really hope we do get close to the playoffs and or make it, giving ome guys finally a chance of meaningful hockey around game 82 would be a tremendous learning experience. As for trading picks, really hope we don't move our 1st this year.. think we may be a year premature on that.

You’re probably right on that… but starting next year, I think it should be very much on the table.

In the rare case they get something similar to a Debrincat level trade I think everyone would be happy but that seemed like a pretty rare opportunity since he was committed to only being here.

If Zegras was healthy and adamant as hell about getting out of there... maybe that would fit the bill. But I may be higher on him than others are.

Realistically yeah, there is probably not going to be a move that makes sense for us this year where we are moving our first round pick out.

I'm not a huge Zegras fan and that could just be me, being old school. I think he's a flashy, high skilled forward but isn't what the team needs. He improves our talent and skill which makes the team better but does he move the needle? Think with Raymond, Kane, Debrincat we are starting to see skill and scoring isn't the priority over being hard to play against and shut down opponents.

So...what do are all our other forwards provide outside raymond, kane and Debrincat?

Torts is a great coach, period. Very few could do what he's doing this year.
