I think we will know truer of where we are when DeBrincat levels down to a normal shooting percentage. He obviously isn't going to maintain this for that much longer. Right now we are riding high and we need to see how we are when we don't have a couple of guys on great hot streaks. Loving the start to the season absolutely, just tempering where we really are as a team.
Agreed. I'm trying not to get ahead of myself and just enjoying a team that's a lot of fun to watch for a change.

I know we aren't winning the cup this year. I am just really glad that the games are finally fun to watch again and that we finally have a bona-fide goal scorer on our team in DeBrincat.

We have the makeup of a team that could give extremely hard fits to opposing teams in the playoffs. We have the toughness, if you let up on the wings then they can make you pay with their goal scoring ability, a couple of stolen games from husso (if at all possible), and the wings will be in position to have the possibility of going deep.

The defense in last nights game against SEA was glaring. Any team that we play against that has high speed like that, we will have issues with. Thankfully, there aren't many teams that have this speed. So once the defense starts figuring it out more and more, we will be able to play in those low scoring games comfortably.

Apparently we're starting to be concerned about Seider, eh? (Haven't been able to watch the last two games closely)

I thought he had a good overall game minus a few over commitments. He has shown some great poise and play making on the PP, but late last game got focused on laying the body over positioning and it put the team in some bad spots. Think that's a quick coachable moment over a reason to be concerned.

I wouldn't say that. He hasn't played his best but he has still played pretty well. He seems to a be a bit of a slow starter. He also needs to figure out his physical game a bit more. His decision making there isn't great yet, but that doesn't surprise me. A lot of young players have to work out that timing and he scaled his physicality back quite a bit once he joined the Wings. I think the goal is to start working that back in again, as it can be very effective.

He has really started to develop on the PP, and his ability to keep the puck in and control that offensive blue line has been a huge reason we have been so good on the PP. The Wings have not had a dman that good at that particular skill since Lids retired. Thanks to his size, reach, and strong stick he has been able to get to and keep in a lot of pucks that other dmen could not.

Where the cat?

His wrists need a rest from ALL THE GOALS HE SCORES BABY.

Usually when they sub a guy in like that it's just a placeholder for practice, and there isn't expected to be a change to the lineup for the next game.

My main concern with Seider is he's getting absolutely hosed on shots that should never go in on an NHL goalie and goals just murdering his metrics.

He looked like crap the first period, the forechecking threw him off and he was rushing his puck decisions and making bad ones.

I wonder how much hockey he plays during the summer, because he seems like a slow starter every season. At least he looks good on the PP, his ability to keep the puck in the zone is amazing.

Line changes are needed now

Veleno - Larkin - DeBrincat
Rasmussen - Compher - Raymond
Kostin - Copp - Perron
Berggren - Czarnik - Sprong

Joe Venom is smoking right now, he deserves a shot with the big guns.

Hopefully this losing streak will refocus the team and they'll come out swinging. Last night's game was bizarre they looked so off. And not just because of getting forechecked. It's like they were playing the first two periods with the wrong-handed stick.

If it takes a late 3rd period Joe Veleno go to fire you up, what the heck is going on??

It's like they starting believing their own hype and thought they could just out-skill teams.

Yeah you are not the 08 Wings, gonna have to work for it. That's the entire point of having depth. We complain about our centers, then get outworked by a team with Zacha as their first line center.

Think they will find the middle ground. We aren't as good as we thought winning 5 straight but we aren't as bad as the last couple. 5-3-1 stretches all season likely puts us where we want to be by game 82. Don't get too up or down.

I'd like to see a bit of a switch up lines wise.

DBC-Larkin-Ras
Sprong-Compher- Ray
Copp-Veleno-Perron
Fisher-Czarnik-Kostin

We still don't have a ton of guys that can create offense on their own. Right now that is really Sprong, Ray, Veleno, DBC, and Larkin; and even then Veleno hasn't ever done this consistently and Sprong is entirely shot reliant.

Copp needs to move down as he has no offensive toolbox. Ray and Ras can swap to give that 2nd line another offensive driver. Ras can play the board/net game for Larkin and DBC. Compher and Ray can hold down the 2nd line defensively in order to bring Sprong up. Veleno is largely doing it himself so I am fine leaving him on the 3rd. Although sticking him with Ray and Sprong on the 2nd wouldn't be bad either, but then we go back to 2 offensively void lines.

I'm starting to wonder if Berggren is trade bait for something. And honestly, with his lack of hustle this season I wouldn't mind it.

DBC - Larkin - Raymond ( keep as is. They've been good except the Boston and Winterpeg games)
Ras - Compher - Perron (this line needs a finisher because they've been good at shutting opposition down and Perron can bury chances while putting in strong board work.)
Berggren (for now) - Veleno - Sprong (not great defensively but fast and can generate offense.)
Kostin - Copp - Fischer (Defensively sound 4th line that can win their matchups.)

If Berggren doesn't show better hustle then I'm all for packaging him off for an upgrade 2nd/3rd line winger. Who is looking like the next Blake Coleman? We could really use a guy like that.

He's never looked that good with Larkin. Joey deserves better wingers though, both Perron and Sprong are defensive liabilities. Having at least one winger capable of defense would give him more freedom to take chances.

If anything, I'd like to see him play with Compher.
