I don't remember hearing Buffalo. I thought it was Ottawa was likely going to take him if they hadn't traded their pick.

And I think Corey Pronman claimed that there was rumors NJD liked him, but obviously not at #2.

Detroit could use a RD and a scoring line winger. But I don't think Buffalo wants to trade those to a divisional rival, and I don't think trades between the two would make either team better.

Edvinsson, Seider, Raymond, Larkin are untouchable. DeBrincat and Kasper would have to be a hell of a deal. The rest of the roster is dog dirt.

Maybe it's a situation where they're looking at taking Patrick Kane just to see him in a Buffalo uniform before his career is over? Kane for 20 games in Buffalo then flipped at the deadline with retention to another team?

Maybe Berggren going to Buffalo for something? He could become a decent scorer on another team but Fester only wants to play him 4th line minutes most nights when we're starved for offense.

Maybe they were looking at Husso/Lyon as a cheap goaltending fix? It's too bad Lyon shat the bed against Philly. The Wings were lucky to win that one.

Or maybe they were there looking at the Flyers? Maybe the Pegulas are missing them some Ristolainen?

He was their favored choice in his draft year. I recall reading that his father all but called the Sabres were taking him.

That said, I don't see the Wings having any interest in moving him. *shrug*

It's probably some sort of deal where one of the Wings mid-tier UFA signees gets shuffled out since Buffalo could use another mid-6 vet (Compher, Copp) yet it would be very Sabres-esque if they wind up giving up something that eclipses who they acquire to a team they are generally lumped in with as being in direct competition.

Not too often. It's their job to scout games, after all. I think the reason this is a headline is because both teams suck right now and could use a shakeup.
