There’s scouts in Detroit every night, as it’s one of the natural hubs for scouts and independent evaluators who live up and down the 401. It’s much easier driving from London to Detroit than dealing with Toronto traffic, etc.

There’s lots of scouts who live in Detroit, Windsor, London, etc.

Seems like one of those scouts was Karmanos the Sabres assistant GM though …that’s the part the is peaking interest in this being more than run of the mill. Assistant gms aren’t just randomly scouting other teams games for the future the week before Xmas

Moreover, Sabres next games with Detroit or Flyers are only in March.

All you have to do is look at the schedule and if there isn't a game between the two teams in the near future...

He’s from Detroit. We see a ton of this around the holidays. Calgary is another one, who gets a a lot of NHL scouts/execs attending games in December, as many travel home for Xmas.

Im not saying he wasn’t there to scout for current trade purposes. Just saying it is rather normal. It’s like going on a working vacation, and we see it every season.
