the team cant even go out there and have a competitive game. with anyone. only against the absolute worst teams do they even have a chance. it's the worst team i've ever watched in 30 years of being a Rangers fan. the late 90's/early 00's teams were more fun than this.

To me, they've never really been a "team" -- just a "collection of players". Most were brought in for their "skill" -- can't think of one role players who was signed or traded for.
We had one that we had signed, but then we wanted to get rid of him and he didn't want to go so we did him dirty.

This is because Drury fixed nothing from the day he took over until now. He tried to paper over the cracks on the roster by spending massive amounts of trade ammo but it was always futile. Now the core is too old (Kreider), lost (Zib), waning (Bread). The young guys have NEVER been even close to be allowed to even practice for taking over the reins (see immutable PP1). Add a series of brutal choices for HQ and here we are.

Drury has reaped what he sowed. Mr hockey genius President and GM is now firmly up shit creek. It is far beyond his capability to fix this.

I'm sick of Kakko. Let him be someone else's pet project.

I'd give Laffy more reign on this team. See if he excels after a year. If not, just make the trade with Montreal.
this is the essence of being a Rongite.

You want fire, you want compete, you want physicality? Look at the kind of game Lafreniere is playing. Forget about who you think he could be. He's telling you who he is. He's currently chickenshit.

It's not permanent. But he needs to find his balls and start leading this team. He's the one being paid to.

The thing is, I think a decent contingent of our hardcore fans (the types who visit HF, not the average NYer) have felt that this team has genuinely been not good enough, very flawed, possibly even “bad” for a long time IN SPITE of the results they’ve gotten. It’s hard to really aggressively take that stance and die on that hill when the team is making the ECF or winning the President’s Trophy, but I feel that it has been a sentiment that’s been in the back of our minds for a long while, even when the team was getting good results on paper.

One of the best ways I can think of to describe it is kind of like the Giants’ Super Bowl wins… everyone was ecstatic but we also all kind of knew we had absolutely NO business actually being champions. This Rangers team is the same; it’s impossible not to enjoy the ride and the hype when your team is actually on that deep playoff run, but deep down, you sort of know we’re not supposed to be there.

In essence, what I’m saying is that this isn’t entirely a “sudden development”. The team has been flawed and lacking for a long time but has always managed to mask that with elite goaltending, elite power play, etc. Now some key pieces have lost a step or become resigned and frustrated, and the results have finally begun to match the actual quality of play we’ve been seeing (not always, but enough to be alarmed and know the team had big time flaws) for a while.

I was typing my reply as you posted this. We've been talking about this offline for 2 1/2 years.

You guys are putting too much stock into a game that doesn’t offer much insight, when neither Doughty nor Miller was available for Miller to spit on Doughty. It’s like the battle of the Hudson where Fatso and Henrik were both backing up.

Except we've seen brialliance with Laffy and people have been wanting him on PP1 since last season.

Outside of being a poor man's Callahan/Dubinsky, you think Kakko's trajectory has been better than Laf's?

At this point Drury really needs to ask the room who wants out and accommodate anyone who does not matter who they are.

Lindgren doesn’t get a say. See what you can do with the NMC crew.
The thing is, I unfortunately feel a guy like Zibanejad is just waiting to outlast Drury, because contractually he can.

I was contemplating the fact that this is currently a playoff team and something melted in my head.
