He hasn't meaningfully changed the direction of the team. Part of it is bad lottery luck, but Yzerman's response to that was to sign a bunch of mid UFAs and basically lock-in a mediocre team for the medium-term.
Besides a 35 point swing from his first season to his most recent, yeah! No change in direction!

You can tell that Zadina wants to be an impact top 6 forward in the NHL and a goal scorer with the way he plays and he’s getting down on himself and frustrated which only further hampers his play

The sooner he realizes that maybe he can carve out an NHL roles as a two way 3rd line guy he will settle down and likely improve as a player .

Just my opinion

Yep, he gets in close to the net with a great chance, doesn't bury it and his body language is complete frustration almost every time. He needs to learn to say screw it to any misses and get back to work trying to get one.

That is the problem, you always think he is on the cusp of doing it and it never ever comes.

Yep. So many games I would be sitting there, ok kid bury a couple. Never came.

Been saying since he got hurt at the start of 22-23 he needs to see a sports shrink. If they can't work it out with him, it ain't gonna be worked out.

That being said, he was a 3rd liner for the better part of last year and didn't get it. They tried giving him opportunity with Larkin when injuries took out Larkin's line mates and he still just didn't get it.

Pretty surprised no one picked him up off waivers.

Yzerman mentioned in the presser that Zadina got the contract he wanted but it may have hindered him being tradeable right now as he tried to trade him. Seems the cap was a little too high for most right now. I think if it was next year, someone probably takes a flier on him.

I'd argue it'd be more beneficial long-term to finish in the basement, rather than lock themselves into being like 10th in the East.
Oh... So your criticism was that we made no considerable improvement but when I point out a 35 point improvement since Yzerman took over, you're arguing that we should've continued tanking?

Doesn't seem contradictory at all.

Nobody should be surprised he cleared.

He fits no role at the NHL level and makes too much to be a shot in the dark reclamation project.

The commotion to think he was going to be claimed was 100% based on his draft status from 5 years ago.

He’s a guy you give a $775,000 two-way deal to at this point. Not a penny more.

Hard to say. If Seider was the best available on Detroit's list they may still take him.
I would assume Detroit still takes Seider considering he was reportedly Holland's guy AND Yzerman's guy.

It was pretty widely reported that Yzerman wanted to trade down in 2019 and didn't because they knew somebody was taking Seider in the Top 10. The only reason you know that is because the GM that was gonna take him just left your organization.

Plus, as evidenced by the absurd number of defenders we just drafted, Yzerman definitely doesn't draft based on need lol.

I meant why didn't anyone trade for him, even for a 7th. I don't think anyone is saying this is the big Yzerman shot, but he's had a not too great off-season this year and last year. This contract isn't his worst offense obviously but it wasn't a good move either as evidenced by the fact no one would trade a 7th for him.
What was bad about his offseason? Because so far the only answer I've been able to get is that it hurts Chris Ilitch's pocket book.

Can't find a single person who can explain how it hurts Detroit now or in the future.

Someone has to play. You think these guys he signed are that good?

He’s what —23 yr old to start next year
some scouts were high on him
i think someone might have a former linemates from his pre draft years

hes buy out friendly next summer.

shows what we know lol, feel like everyone on HFB would have jumped on that
In his presser yesterday, Yzerman alluded to the fact that his contract is the issue - he wanted a prove it deal, and it's making him impossible to move.

His deal doesn't hurt the Wings at all, even if we have to bury it in GR, but it doesn't make him attractive to other teams in a flat-cap world.

If you don't think he made meaningful directional changes then reevaluate your expectations because they are unrealistic.
