Despite the Leafs horrendous losing streak, Morgan Rielly continues to impress

If you can't identify one of three players on the Leafs that are actually playing well (the other two are Winnik and Santorelli, just to let you know) then all hope for you is already lost.

I've definitely kept notice of players like Santorelli. Everyone does when it comes to Toronto because we need to know who can be had once the firesale starts.

Sure, same as Talbot has looked impressively bad.

His skating has taken away quite a few chances from our guys like Kreider and Hagelin tonight, and his shot looks really good. Sniped that corner on his first goal. [mod]

[mod] He has looked pretty good tonight yet I'm not about to anoint him the Leafs' savior like a lot of people. I'm trying to put the situation into perspective [mod]

Talbot was bad tonight for sure, but those Rielly goals were damn good shots and Talbot would have to commit a robbery glove/blocker save to stop those shots. That Robidas goal was bad, but Rielly's goals were on 2 nice shots point blank from the slot.

Some people just don't want to give credit where credit is due. He scores a nice goal "doesn't count, it's against edmonton", he scores 2 goals and "the goalie played bad".

Rielly has looked great since the coaching change. His defensive game has improved since last year and his offensive game is coming through now. He still makes a lot of young mistakes -- because *gasp* he's young -- but he's progressing well and the future is bright for him. Not about to make predictions, but one trait to keep in mind is that he identifies his weaknesses and focuses on improving them, and I put a lot of stock in that.

Rielly looks good but Nash made him his ***** on the winning goal.

Not really. No one picked up Zuccarello coming from the bench. Rielly did his job preventing Nash from getting to the net, he can't help it if the leafs' d zone coverage has them swarming like lost bees so no one can find the open man.

Same with the Moore goal where he screened Reimer, with a 5v4 advantage Moore had no business being left all alone for that long.

If Leaf management is smart they will tear everything down and rebuild around Reilly, Nylander, and JVR. Maybe Bernier if they can put a competant defense infront of him.

In my 2019-2020 BeAGM season with the Leafs Morgan Rielly turns into an absolute ANIMAL. At 24 years he upgrades to Franchise from Elite and significantly progresses every year (even on the 2nd pairing Line up until this year). If you guys ever play beaGm as the Leafs absolutely do not trade him, and if you aren't consider him a Duncan Keith/Letang/Karlsson; if you need a puck rushing defenceman with soft hands and a good step look no further than Morgan Rielly.

Conclusive evidence that we have a generational talent on our hands

I'll never understand fans who would rather blame their team's player than acknowledge the talent of a player on another team.

I'm saying it's a bit of both here. People are deluded if they don't think these factors can be related. Good on Rielly for taking advantage of the Rangers on an off night defensively, especially in the crease. You need to give the situation perspective rather than viewing it in a vacuum. It isn't to slight a player, but to understand some more.

Look at Stralman and how people hailed him an big offensive boost after recording 3 goals or whatever it was with the Lightning in the first week of the season. He's still sitting on 3 goals. Maybe looking at his competition during that stretch can tell you more or it could be a simple hot streak. Did the same trying to understand how Nash could play so well during the playoffs last year yet not add anything offensively. He was never actively bad.
