Because for his whole career he's been a middle six center who excels on the PP.

He's BY FAR having the best season of his career. He's been outright dominant on a lot of nights this season, and it's pretty rare for someone to make such a jump at 27 years old. Let's hope it carries on til the end of the season.

Clearly change of scenery helped in this case. I read he also had a productive summer preparing for the season both physically and mentally.

If he keeps this up we have 2 legit 1Cs.

that's better than we've had in a LONG ass time... if that's actually the case, we don't need to make that ugly trade for Joe Thornton-esque players, which is very relieving :)

Hayes has the tools to be a 1C too, IMO.

We're set up VERY well down the middle for both the near and distant future.

Yet people insist we need a centerman.

Their respective ages are 24, 27, and 22 also. The 27 year old is also signed long term.

30 points in 33 games.

2.41 ES P/60 (2nd on the team)

Has been very consistent all year (7P/9GP in October, 12P/14GP in November, 9P/10GP in December).

Excellent season for him so far. Would love to see him keep this up.

People on this board insist upon a lot of things that aren't true. Patience is something that runs in short supply here.

3 months ago it certainly seemed like they did. The play of Stepan and, especially Brassard and Hayes, have been a huge + for this team.

At this point, the team can use a #6 defenseman and a bottom 6 guy that plays with some physicality (and can also play the game, so NOT Tanner Glass)

I never thought Brass would approach 70 pts here in a season but he's on pace I always thought 20-30-50 points would be great for him but he will blow those numbers away this season. His contract is looking better and better each day. We are so set up down the middle for years the one glaring thing missing is someone who can win some draws.

If he can continue this and get to ~60 points this year or more, I would say his value is about the same as a healthy Gaborik a few years ago for the Rangers. I'd take a solid 2-way center who makes players around him better putting up 60-65 points over a one dimensional 80 point winger. And I loved Gabby while he was here.

He's also like 6 years younger and healthier. It was a great trade for us. Though I do think that under AV Gabby would have some good success too, but at the time he was playing like **** for the 2nd season in 4.

WE held Gabby to a very high standard here, he actually was never terrible, just inconsistent. He can score 25+ goals in his sleep that's how good he is. Underrated stick work and skilled with deflection as well.

1 for 1, I'd prefer Gaborik, but taking contract into account I would rather Brass god.

I said last year that brassard had the potential and skill to be a #1C and never got a fair shake in columbus due to management and the teams just being awful. People laughed at the notion and look where we are now.

I personally still regret trading gaborik, even if it brought in brass (who is pretty much single handedly making the trade a win IMO) I know it's silly to think of what if's but if we got brassard and still somehow had Gaborik...:(

(yeah i realize there would be cap issues and whatnot)

Why is it bad to have another center on the team? For depth reasons? Not sure what you mean. Adding a guy like Fiddler can only help on the 4th line

Why do you regret trading Gaborik? Unless you want to add him to this lineup then i understand but it would be impossible anyway. Fun to think about tho.

Kreider-Stepan-Gaborik
Nash-Brassard-Zuccarello
Miller-Hayes-MSL
Hagelin-Moore-Fast/Stempniak

Did i forget someone? That lineup is just scary
