The thing I like most about Brassard with Nash is that he's a left handed centerman. Ideally if your RW is your best player on a line, you want him with a LH centermen, your more apt to pass on your forehand off the rush than on your backhand. MSL and Brassard are both lefties playign to Nashes left...both guys are more apt to find him than each other. It helps Nash a lot.

I'd like to have Stepan with Kreider, someone on the right side who can maintain possession (MZA)

Kreider is at his best with Stepan, a RH centerman (no surprise). 3rd line of Hayes Miller & Duclair would be my pick (yes...JT Miller)

then Hagelin Moore & Stempniak could be one of the best 4th lines in the league..heck theyd be an amazing 3rd line.

It'd be THE best 4th line in the league.

Don't know about that rookie line though. I'd want them to start literally every shift in the O-zone. And I'd rather develop Hayes as a center. It's great in theory, as they all have really complimentary skillsets.

Brassard had a taste of something he dreamed of, playing in a Stanley Cup Final. Not getting to the pinnacle drives players who possess a strong desire to win. Look at Nash too, and others.
I have really loved what I have seen from Brassard. I knock him for being a bit too fancy at times, but if that's my beef, I don't have much to complain about. He is a constant threat.

I legitimately thought he peaked in the half-season after we got him and giving him $5 million a year was going to be a mistake, but I've been dead on wrong. 11 points in 12 games, and he has REALLY stepped up in Stepan's absence. No matter where you throw Brassard in the lineup, he's guaranteed to be a threat and he seems to be the kind of personality that fits the chemistry in the locker room. $5 million looks like a steal at the moment. I'm sure he'll cool off, but I'm really hoping that he can not only break 50 points, but MAYBE touch 60 points.

Both Columbus-New York trades, in hindsight, look phenomenal right now. Dubinsky/Anisimov are Columbus' 2/3 Cs when healthy. Erixon has been a steady bottom-pairing defender. Gaborik didn't quite work out, but they were able to move on from him and they've been able to lure players in FA such as Horton and make trades easier such as: Hartnell.

Nash has finally started to look like the dominant player we thought we were getting. Brassard has slotted nicely into our #2C role, and looks to be hitting his prime just at the right time for us. John Moore has been a solid bottom-pairing defender when he isn't making the dumb play. Derek Dorsett provided us with solid play and got us a higher pick for it.

In the end, I think both teams make each trade again, and are both incredibly content and pleased with each result. Very rarely does something like this ever happen in the NHL. Great job by JD/Jarmo for turning that organization completely around so quickly.

I'm just glad that many posters stopped (at least for awhile) discounting Brassard's contribution to the Rangers success over the past two seasons. Everyone was quick to point out Zuke as the reason for their line working well together followed by Poo (to a lesser extent of course). Brassard was like a passenger or an afterthought. Hopefully now he will get his well deserved recognition as well as an acknoledgement that in the current market $5 m per is a darn good deal.

Well, last year zucc was one of the main reason for sure when brassard was on the same line.
Brassard have improved as a #center, but sometimes he is invisible on the ice. Although, Nash and Marty usually find eachother - so keep Brassard on that line.
Kreider - Stepan - Zucc had/have a great chemistry in their first match together this season. :)
Let's go Rangers! :handclap: ))

I hope he keeps this up, that 5M investment the Rangers made in him is looking really good right now with 12 points in 14 games (a 70 point pace).

lolololol rags sign a mediocre 3C for $5M per lololololol Pouliot and Stralman made Brassard what he was last season

Not sure what stralman has to do with the joke but...anyone who thought brassard was a meidcore 3rd line center needs their head checked

Brassard's game isn't usually well-rounded enough to be a 2C unless he's putting up 55+ points.

I'd love if he finished the season with 70 points. We'll see.

Brassard is playing 18:08 a game. Last year he played 15:48 a game. He's playing more this year than he has at any point in his career. It isn't really a surprise then that he is scoring more. He has always been good offensively. His struggles have been on the defensive side, usually giving the puck away because he's trying to do to much. He has definitely cut down on the turnovers so far this year.

Yeah, it's encouraging that Brassard's scoring, but there's still a chance that this is just an early season hot streak.

At the very worst he's a very serviceable 3C.

Medicore 3rd line C's would be like Dominic Moore and thats mostly because we're used to him being on the 4th line.

He was 48 in scoring among centers last year, in what was a very typical offensive season for him. At the very worst, he's an excellent 3C. If he's your regular 3C then you must have two pretty darn good centers ahead of him.

Legit 2nd line C?

Legit 2nd line C.

I knew I was making a good decision when I purchased a Brassard away white in January of this year. The guy's been dynamite since he got here. A little streaky last year, but definitely a difference-maker in 2014-15. Where would the Rangers be without his play during Stepan's absence?

Current pace: 28g, 39a, 67pts

The problem with extrapolation is that it does not tell the whole tale. Those are great 2nd line center numbers. Off course, he has yet to tally a 20 goal or a 50 point season in his career.

In a salary cap era, you cannot afford to pay a 3rd line center $5m per for 5 years. Nor can you afford to pay that to a 2nd line/3rd line tweener. That money is for legit 2nd line players. The Rangers took a big chance. Not one I would have done. Hopefully it is a case of Brassard waking up to his potential and will make this a smart signing. Otherwise, it will not be money well spent.

In what galaxy is 67 points 2nd line numbers? I swear some people are still stuck in the 80's when 1st liners scored 100+ points.

His 45 points last year were 2nd line numbers, easily. He was 47th among centers in points and 99th among forwards.

If he comes anywhere near 60 points he's a ridiculous bargain. But he doesn't have to even hit that to earn his paycheck. Less than 50 forwards hit the 60 point mark last year. Less than 85 hit the 50 point mark.

Brassard has been absolutely fantastic this year, he is one of the most exciting players on this team! He displayed what he can do over the last couple of games, his snipe over the sliding defender and over the goalies shoulder was fantastic and then his fake shot pass to Fast was unreal. Excited to have him around for at least another 5 years.
He has also helped me tremendously in FanDuel

totally agree. i hope people are kidding about hating on Brassard. Guy has so much creativity and is a perfect fit for this team. Plus in the playoffs he doesn't disappear.

Been our 3rd best player behind Nash and Stepan IMO.

He's just been a better player. That's it. Everything about his game has taken a step up.
