Why do you need to blame someone? It's a business. Understand that and you'll be a lot less stressed out.

What makes you think I'm stressed out? I'm one of the calmest posters here (which isn't saying much lol). I understand it's a business, but there's absolutely no reason it should be taking this long.

I don't follow.

When the Rangers sign their RFAs on a sweet deal, everyone praises Gorton. Now that Stepan still hasn't been signed, some people are blaming Sather? How does that make sense?

Let's wait until Gorton is the GM and see what happens. Maybe Gorton will still be the good guy and we can blame the influence Glen had on him :sarcasm:

I would. He will also have to win fans back. But I don't think he could care less about fans though. That's just the feeling I've gotten over the summer.

a little secret, when it comes to negotiating contracts, not one player in any sport cares about the fans.

They just don't.

Why should they. What does the fan do for them?

Player gets traded, he's got new fans. Signs with a new team, new fans. Plays in another league...NEW FANS

We are replaceable.

fans feel entitled to things that they are not entitled to. I get a kick out of that.

Can anyone find out if Step has put a down payment on a house and figure out how much the house is? This might give us insight into the situation.

They should care. Fans provide the revenue for the team & sport to exist as a professional organization. You are so jaded and delusional it is scary.

I would.

I'd hold out until December for $500k per year

You missed the point completely. If it wasn't a new coach, new system and 2 key players being injured, I wouldn't care if he held out until December either as he is only hurting himself financially.

With regards to the bolded, I am sure that is the case considering you aren't making anything like that to have a comparison to. 500k compared to $50k is a 10 fold increase. $500k compared to 5 million is merely 10%. By sitting out through December, he effectively only earns roughly 2.8 million? for the remainder of the season and total $$$ wise for the 2 years is almost in the same boat if he were to sign now for 3.1 to 3.2.

I'm not the delusional one.

I'm a realist.

It's also why I'm not a fan of any one particular player.

Players come and go. The team is the only constant.

Never said that. When did the reading comprehension of the world just become non existent? Read what I said in response to the OP. Im talking from a player perspective and why they should care about the fans.

I, as a fan, do not give a single **** whether or not a player cares about the fans. If they come here and play well, that's fine by me, and I'm sure I'm not the only one with this opinion. It's not right for us fans to feel entitled to something when we're not the ones playing the game.

Put things in perspective.

someone making 3 million and holding out for 500k, is different then someone maknig 70k and holding our for 500k.

He wants to hold out over that, go for it. Because the money he could be getting paid, could be in investments and compounding. Instead he won't see a dime and can sit on his hands, then have a crappy season when he comes back and that 2 year bridge will turn into a long-term contract.

Or he can wait for an offer sheet that may never come.

Again, giving into Stepan now could potentially set a precedent, if other youngsters have good years prior to the bridge time.

We wouldn't be able to pay all of the guys. Kreider, Fast, Lindberg, Kristo, McIlrath, Miller.

What if these guys have good seasons and god forbid, put up those numbers over a full year.

Then we'd have to lock them in to long term, high end contracts.

This isn't as much about Stepan as it is about the future of the team.

Where did the word entitled come into play and what do I feel like I am entitled to? My opinion on Stepan? Yeah I am entitled to have an opinion. That's the purpose of these boards IIRC.

I blame the clause in the CBA that makes it so if the player signs at a younger age he has less leverage than someone who signed at a older age without some sort of disclaimer about years of experience.

And we had this discussion yesterday.

Putting real numbers like $500,000.00 into fractions and percentages to make it seem smaller (because that is what you are doing) doesn't take away the fact that it's STILL FIVE HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS.

Just because you are making 3 mill per year doesn't mean that it's anything less than what it is.
