I want to be mad at Stepan and Slats, but I probably should aim my rage at the agent.

Right....

You and JCrusty would have us believe that contract terms are reached by throwing darts at a few figures? What players are paid is and always will be intertwined with the rest of the league regardless of the cap.

No one is insinuating that things are done arbitrarily and without due considerations of market value and precedence from other players/teams. Well... you are.

WHat players are paid is and always will be intertwined with the cap regardless of what players are paid throughout the rest of the league.

You're half correct which in the grand scheme of things, is not very correct at all. Don't put words in mouths.

This is what I don't get either. He overpays Pyatt and Asham and has Powe on the roster, and yet he won't give Stepan 3.3 million? The guy who practically carried the offense with Nash last year?

None of the three are from this year. Had they been from this year, I'm almost positive that they wouldn't be getting paid that amount.

Hagelin has his worth and he's being compensated fairly, maybe a few hundred thousand excess but the situation was permitting then

Permitting back then? Why? Because he had some cap space?

Maybe if Sather drew Stepan's name out of a hat first, he could've been the one to be overpaid.

Whoever the teams capologist is should have seen this coming. Always plan for the worst case scenario.

True. However, it's hard to go to UFA and or an auction with an upper limit on every item. They might have had a limit overall. A limit on each UFA agent would have complicated things especially with out lack of depth heading into last year which even after last year's signings, was still really lacking. Not to mention it's also hard to predict the CBA negotiations and everything that follows. It's hard to pin point next year's cap right now let alone get a quota on budget during the off season of 11-12 when we were still vying for a return to the ECF.

They knew heading into this off-season. They could have dumped Pyatt or someone else.

Stop writing your dates in correctly. :p:

Am I doing it the unamerican way? :P

Actually, I messed it up  I googled Step's hat trick date and it was 10/09/10 which made me do it D/M/Y even though I knew 10/09/10 has to be M/D/Y.

I like our centre-depth without Stepan, especially if Lindberg continues to thrive.

Also, welcome back to the lockerroom after you've played hardball over 500k. Can he look his teammates in the eye?

I would be the farm that not one player will say BOO to him about this.

I would also bet that same farm that each and every one of those teammates welcome him back with open arms publically AND behind the scenes.

This is not a situatino where the kid HAS a contract and he's holding out for more.

This is a kid that is excercizing his collectively bargained rights to negotiate the best deal for himself.

The thought and idea that his teammates would have issues with him are so far off the page, they are in a different and VERY OLD BOOK

I blame Sather for not trying to get this done sooner. Unless I hear that Stepan didn't want to negotiate at the beginning of the summer, I'm blaming the GM.

Why do you need to blame someone? It's a business. Understand that and you'll be a lot less stressed out.

Sure, Stepan also has the ability to simply not sign a contract, which he is free exercising.

Im just really turned off by how this whole think shook out. Sather didn't squeeze Hagelin -- overpaid him by a couple hundred thousand, in fact -- he had no trouble throwing a million bucks at Moore, Pouliot, and Zuccarello.

Why cry poverty now? Over a couple hundred thousand? With, by far, the best player in that group?

The bridge deal and leverage are convenient excuses for whats turning out to be mismanagement -- or better yet, mis-prioritizing.

Now you dun-did it.

Placing the onus on the senile old d-bag running the show.

God help your soul.

This is a kid refusing to suit up with his teammates over 500k. This is a kid seemingly willing to sit out the season opener over 500k. I actually think pre-season is important when it comes to bonding and shaping a team.

At the end of the day though, I don't think they're holding out on $250,000 in cap space as much as people are saying. It's a part of it. Step would have $250,000 in reasons to hold out but MGMT doesn't care about the money per se and just the cap. $250,000 isn't going to break out cap situation especially considering we're currently fine with our cap. I don't think Glen wants to lose. Like I said, UFA gone wild is coming up. This is the first piece of the domino.

Why are people brushing aside $500,000? That's a VERY nice house....

There's probably and most likely a way for him to get the skates on for $3M to $3.1M so if he misses the opener, it's for less than $400,000 or even $300,000.

Also Viper, he already has a nice house with the money he's already made :P Maybe a nice Yacht? :sarcasm:

I see that you responded to me, but I don't see a point.

His teammates will have no issues with him whatsoever.

Right....

Do people pay different prices for the same car? All the time. Kadri and Stepan (although not the same they are definitely comparable). One buyer will pay $30,000. Another may not pay a dime over $29,000. One seller may sell for 30k. The other may not sell for 30k.

It is situational. How you interpret the stuff you do is absolutely mind blowing.

I would. He will also have to win fans back. But I don't think he could care less about fans though. That's just the feeling I've gotten over the summer.

I don't know man... if we lose the first two because our offense was lacking, Henrik will most likely hold it against him on the inside in a dark way especially if it's a 1-0 or a 2-1 SO type game. Hate to walk into the locker room during pregame and be like nothing happened

Uncle Henrik doesn't like losing SOs as much as any other goalie who's ever played in one.

I don't follow.

When the Rangers sign their RFAs on a sweet deal, everyone praises Gorton. Now that Stepan still hasn't been signed, some people are blaming Sather? How does that make sense?

Both sides need to compromise and get this done. I can live with Stepan missing some/most of camp but there is no reason for this to linger on into the season.

While I'm sure some of Stepan's teammates are upset that he's not at camp, there are probably a few others that must be thrilled by his absence (ahem, Richards).
