Who needs Stepan when we have Richards? :sarcasm:

Or Powe, or Asham, or Pyatt, or anybody else on the active roster that is close to worthless.

I understand squeezing a RFA that has no leverage. I don't understand doing it to your best center when you readily employ and pay these other dregs on the roster. Crying about being up against the cap is a rather weak argument when:

1. you have the type of guys like the ones above on your roster
2. you can readily get rid of these players and more than make up for the cap space needed

....which is ****ing $500K. Its not like we're talking about millions here.

Dreger wrote its unlikely Stepan will be signed before the first game of the season given the state of talks. http://www.tsn.ca/blogs/darren_dreger/?id=432255

Over 500K???

This is just silly.

And im talking about the Cap here, that's all this is about - a 500K difference in hit. Sure its 1M over two years but Dolan has money to burn, especially given his history of excessive free agent contracts he's signed.

Maybe the Rangers figure at this point since Stepan isn't in camp and has missed so much time anyway - they might as well wait to offer themselves these advantages:

• A longer look at rookies and other players on the bubble
• The advantage of seeing if anyone gets injured before setting their roster and deciding on who to waive to make space for Stepan.
• Maintain the possibility that Stepan's camp lowers their demands in time as the season draws near.

That's if they feel all of that outweighs not having their #1 center in camp and the distraction it could create for the team...

Stepan should buy tickets to the first couple away games right against the glass behind the Rangers bench. Wear the other teams jersey and hold up a sign that says "will play for 3.5M per year" Bring his mom and sister as well, maybe someone can get a picture of them with frowny faces.

Hopefully that doesn't happen and he signs beforeahand. Missing regular season games would be a dumb move.

He should add "But not for 3.0M because I'm stubborn and greedy!!!"

gloves are off after Dreger's report.

I hope someone offers him a contract the Rangers can't sign and he's gone. Sather is a total complete idiot. Acres of bad signings have handcuff this team and now it's time to pay the price. Go chew on a unlit cigar weirdo.

Lots of people will be ready to tar and feather the kid if he misses regular season games. Things could get ugly.

Here come the pitchforks and torches

Exactly. We're going to have to sift through some nasty comments here.

I'm usually a vindictive ******* who'll stop at nothing to exact the feeling of euphoria I get from a good old unleashing of vengeance. In this case however, I don't want the team to fail. Hopefully brassard, Richards, Lindberg, Moore, and Boyle will step the **** up and play insanely well to see Step's minutes dwindle. I'm being too sentimental but having watched the heart and passion of Henrik for almost a decade, as well as the work ethic of some of our core players, if Step actually holds out and misses a single game when he has the option to walk into Glens office and make a deal for $3.0M or $3.1M, I'd like to see nothing more than some good old struggle and distrust from AV to start.

He's being compensated fairly at $3.0-$3.1M. If he really wants a settlement at $3.2M, he can get that done before season starts. If he instead holds out for a game or more, then he's just being a dick to his teammates putting himself first. McDonagh took $4.7M on a 6 year deal and you want a $3.5M+ on a bridge?

Is Rags an insult to the Rangers? my bad..I thought it was just slang

The place is definitely gonna be unbearable now until he signs.

I'm not mad at Stepan for holding out, I'm mad at Stepan for making HF an even worse place

and its 100 percent deserved if he does.

Its just never enough for these NHL players. They love to sit out for more money.

How many NHL players will miss actual games this season, "sitting out" for larger contracts? How many did that last season? The year before?

#holdoutproblems

:sarcasm:

I am still on Stepan side here, I think the Rangers should have given him a McD like contract from the get go. Not as much maybe something like 4.2-4.3M per for 6 years but I think that would have been the right way for the rangers to build the team regardless of leverage and all that jazz.

I'm not understanding the venom being sent his way.

What exactly does he owe the Rangers?

It's not like he's GOT a contract that he is holding out on.

He owes the Rangers NADA.

Yeah, I mean at this point splitting the difference should be the obvious choice. I can understand playing hardball to get the player down to a bridge deal, but when it's this close and camp has started already, what are you really going to gain out of it?

We're a full two weeks from the start of the season. Plenty of time to close 500k in difference.

The issue is can the Rangers afford to field a full roster with the price his Agent is demanding? DO we have to cut the 13th forward and 7th/8th dman off the roster? Send down Biron? Arrange an emergency trade for Pyatt (why hasn't this happened yet)?

ROR missed games fo Colorado, did he not? Subban did... I don't remember any tarring and feathering.

Basically this! Makes life miserable for us all, and my job harder.
