what line?

I guess it would be 18 times they missed the playoffs since 67, a positive spin would be they made the playoffs 28 times and went to the conference finals 6 times.

that line

that IS positive, not great, but certainly not bad either. We all want a Stanley Cup winning team in Toronto, but think of poor St. Louis or Vancouver, who both have been in the league since 1968 and they have never won the cup. Other teams can be just as ashamed as Toronto, think about it......

brother, I am 49 years old and I don't even remember being IN the SC finals in my lifetime as a fan.

I don't give a sht what fans of other teams have suffered

I can count with both hands how many times there have been real tangible positives in my 41 years as a fan.

I'm a Leaf fan too, I was trying to tell you that we're not the ONLY team suffering. The Leafs are the butt of hockey jokes and it makes no sense because there are many other teams with worse stats. The Sabres have been in the league 44 years and have never won the cup, the Blues 46 years, the Canucks, 43 years. Why have these teams with NO cups and nearly as long droughts, been never mentioned?:shakehead

They have all been to the cup finals. We haven't.

being to the finals is NOT winning, the Leafs have gone to the conference finals many times, as recently as 2002, but to most fans if you don't win it all, you win nothing and that's what the Canucks, Blues, Sabres etc haven't done for well over 40 years, they are really no better off than the Leafs, but for some reason people dwell over the 47 Leaf drought and not the Canucks never won a cup drought in 43 years of being in the league, where's the logic????

I don't think that's true.
Fans feel a lot of pride and joy if one of their team's players wins the Hart or the Calder or the Vezina or the Norris ... or as a team they exceed expectations in any given season or series — just as we would if we entered in 8th place and made it to the Finals but then lost.

And ... is it really confusing to you that other teams who've made it to the Finals multiple times and won the President's Trophy as the best team in the league are not looked at the same way as a team that has done neither, ever, since only six teams competed for the trophies?

you make it sound like the Leafs haven't won anything since 1967. What team was last to win the Norris division, the 1993 and 1994 Leafs, but who remembers that, not too many because winning the Stanley Cup is what fans want, and the teams, Canucks, Sabres, Blues etc. have all been in the league for over 40 years and have not done that.

Last time the Leafs won the Cup.

Those aren't calculated for inflation , which people never bring up when talking about how much things cost in the past.

Average income - $51k
Average cost of house - $99k
Rent - $876
Gas - $2.31
New Car - $19k
Movie ticket - $8.76
Minimum wage - $9.82

Really isn't a huge difference from todays standards

Indeed! Who does remember who won some Division title in the 1990s?!

But I bet the 'Nucks, Sabres and Blues fans all remember well the years they won the whole league or went to the Finals ... just as we fondly remember the Gilmour years ...

I guess it really isn't that much different from today's standard.

The Toronto Maple Leafs' 2945 shots against is the most ever given up in an 82 game season.

/fail

No team that was in the bottom 10 in goals against made the playoffs and our Leafs thought they could do it with the 5th worst mark and 30th in shots against.

Leafs finished in the standings roughly where their goals against expected they would.

Toronto gave up around 36 SA/G. 2952 shots over the whole season. To keep GAA around 2.60 mark (which is the median), Leafs goalie needed to save 33.4 S/G. Which is 0.927 sv% per game. Only 2 goalies have better sv% than .927 this season. Rask and Varlamov.

So you are saying it was a mistake to trade away Rask... :sarcasm:

Philly is 19th with 2.74, Detroit is 18th with 2.73 while 20th is Phoenix with 2.75

Are they THAT big of difference?

2011-2012

Philly - 20th , Washington 21st , Chicago 22nd , Ottawa 24th all made the playoffs

I think THIS is the most depressing statistic.
http://hfboards.mandatory.com/showthread.php?t=1276595&highlight=burke

In 2012 71% of leaf fans here still supported Burke.

You see, THIS is what I find is the most frustrating thing about this team.
The fans.
It was SO PAINFULLY OBVIOUS to leaf fan realists what was happening. Burke was an idiot and made psychotically stupid decisions.
We called it. All along. We were right.
Yet we were bullied and insulted for simply speaking the truth.

The best thing about this year was Bernier, AND HE WASN'T EVEN A BURKE ACQUISITION. Besides that, switch Clarkson with Grabo, and we have a VERY similar to team to what Burke left us with.

Burkes. Rebuild. SUCKED!!!
The proof is in the pudding.
Leaf fan realists were right.

It all goes back to JFJ...

Oh, I totally doubt Rask gets those numbers here. The system Boston uses supports the goalie when he has a bad game and goalie supports the defense when they are having a bad game.

Leafs require Vezina level goal tending every game. Even if we agree with quality shots argument, it is still taxing on goalies to see point shots. Also, more point shots, more a chance a deflection occurs.

The point of the graphic isn't to be informative and to compare today's standard to the previous standard of living. The point is that when the Leafs last won a Cup you could buy a house for $14K. It was THAT long ago. adjusting for inflation misses the point completely and is totally irrelevant.
