So far so good after one game from Gurianov.

A speedster down the wing with good shot. He may never be physic sass l or have many dimensions to his game. So it will be interesting to see if that will be enough and or if he has other dimensions to his game

Hughes seems to really like the tall long reach guys who can skate... despite some flaws

I'm intrigued by the plan. Cause they clearly aren't afraid of getting small skilled players either. Evidence being Htutson and Mesar. I hope they are targeting big good skaters to insulate small skilled players that cover each other's weaknesses.

Whether people like the plan or not atleast they have one.

He was good, no 2 ways about it, it's something we can work with
I think it's beyond obvious Hughes signs him anyway imo, somewhere between 2 and 3mill wtv, it's just about how many years I'm more curious about
Personally I'd go with 2, to avoid this Hoffman 3rd year scenario again if things go south

Reminds me a bit of the younger Pacioretty , FWIW. A guy that big and that explosive is intriguing in itself, the fact that he also has a heavy shot and isn't a complete klutz with the puck on his stick makes him REAL intriguing. MSL and co. might be able to do something with him .

he was a standout last night , if he can bring that game to game he'll be just fine
So much is in the player's mind. This is why the Habs' miserable long-standing alliance with idiotic, antediluvian and/or authoritarian coaches was so counterproductive. MSL, from what I can tell so far, seems like such an inspired hire. Here's hoping that he can unlock Gurianov and help him locate his toolbox and maximize his potential.

Can't we just sign him for 1 year? Make him earn another contract. It's not like he's currently worth his salary anyway he would probably accept the deal.

I thought it was Anderson flying around had to do a double-take it was #25. Big body, making room out there. I can see a lot of ice opening up once the players return from injury and getting much more space if mgmnt finally understands the value of big / fast players sprinkled in the lineup.

Dadanov never backed anyone up, he was a total disaster out there, I liked the small sample last night.

Showed great power and speed last night. I want to see some goals before I get too excited but I question the assessment that he's top-6 or bust. He could easily carve out a bottom six role. I like the thought of him and caufield on the off wings on the PP, really make the PK sweat

From what I saw, he looked good last night. He was all over the offensive zone and kept putting the puck on net. I assume if he played that way every night, Dallas wouldn't have traded him, but maybe we'll get lucky.
Dallas has alot of young forwards they preferred over Gurianov. I think DeBoer was not a fan.
A player who has that powerful of a stride with that size...baffling.

DeBoer is an incompetent. I wouldn't put any credence in what he thinks.
It’s was also Rick Bowness (now Jets), and Jim Montgomery (now Bruins) before DeBoer who were his coaches prior - all three coaches had challenges with him.

Excerpt from The Athletic article:

Derek Laxdal his AHL coach: “Denis is very coachable,” Laxdal said then. “It’s just a matter of the information sinking in and sticking. The information has been given to him, but when you continue to make the same mistake over with the same information then it’s on the player.

Stars beat writer Saad Yousuf: “Gurianov’s greatest flaw was his inconsistency. He wasn’t able to put everything together at once and when he did, it was a quick flash that never stuck around. Gurianov has all the tangible tools one looks for in a hockey player — speed and a lethal shot to headline — but those tools were continuously wasted because he wasn’t able to match them with the required hockey IQ. He was often out of position and committed basic mistakes that should always be avoided.”

Seems to be a repeat of Galchenyuk situation (minus speed quotient) - tools but no toolbox.

MSL strongly believe IQ can be taught, but what if the player doesn’t possess the capability to absorb, process and execute teachings - which was Galchenyuk’s ultimate flaw?

Excellent insight.
If a young player can navigate through 27 hard fought playoff games and put up 17 points, there has to be something there. Hockey IQ is on full display through 4 arduous rounds of playoff hockey. Maybe I am wrong.

Nobody thought of this: Dallas is the Finnish mafia, they are another version of the Hurricanes, and Finns and Russians aren't really in good terms, and haven't been for ever. Maybe the deal is for locker room chemistry? I know they brought in Dadonov but he's a short term UFA and he will help them in the playoffs, he clearly saved all of his energy for the moment he would be traded, he wasn't giving it all, you can tell how talented he is, his IQ is phenomenal, most of the time our players were too dumb to catch his tricky passes. That's the only way I could explain how we got Gurianov, with that many teams in. I was very impressed last night, he's a keeper. The way he skates, his passes, his size, his shot, he looks like a real hockey player to me.

Keep things in perspective, they played the sharks. He did look good though but lets see how he does against stronger opposition before he 's anointed.
The consensus from Dallas was that he has issues defensively and more of a shoot first train of thought, not a play maker, but that's fine if he has the proper line-mates and role and can learn to play within the system he is now in.

Ok, so I was very impressed by his first game. If he plays like that on a consistent basis, he can be a first liner.

One of the reasons the Stars signed Radulov was to help mentor Gurianov - knowing he was coming over to North America for 17-18 season.

As for Dadonov, he’s a known entity w DeBoer having played & performed under him in Fla & Vegas
