A: What TF is a mental reset? Did anyone use this phrase before Rick Dhaliwal tweeted it? It's such a perfectly vague throw away statement that means nothing specific. I've never heard it uttered by anyone until someone whispered it in Dhaliwal's ear.
B: IF JT "stepping away for personal reasons" (teams words) is about mental health (I'm skeptical), wouldn't the way to "normalize" the situation be for the player to make a statement about the situation and own the narrative?
When Simone Biles pulled out of the Olympics because "the mental wasn't there" she issued a detailed press release to explain the situation and why she did what she did. It nipped the speculation right in the bud.
If the player wasn't prepared to do this, then why on earth didn't the team just put him on the IR for whatever nagging injury kept him out of most of the preseason?
None of the way this was handled makes any sense if the goal was to minimize people talking about it.
Lost me at “what is a mental reset”….
… seriously? It’s a break based on needing to resolve a barrier/ challenge based on an emotional or mental situation.
To dive into it any further is to breach personal boundaries; and this is where the fan entitlement comes in. We aren’t owed the information on what challenges JT Miller is facing. It’s personal. The team understands that, the media, and fans apparently do not. The fact they were this transparent is good and refreshing, and it’s pretty gross there’s people legitimately thinking they *should know this information.
And they spelled it out more specifically than you’re alluding to above. Make whatever excuses you like for those that wanted to speculate, but they by no means needed to release any further details and the wild conjecture is on those that made it, and perpetuated it, not the club.
