From the beginning, they should've been tight and stuck to a simple story: "JT Miller is on leave of absence indefinitely for personal reasons." PERIOD.

Persistent questions?
What is the reason for Miller's departure? "It is a personal matter we are not at liberty to discuss."
When will he return? Will he return? Is he being traded? "JT is an integral part of the team and our long-term vision, and he will definitely return. We do not currently have a timeline."
Did the coach kick him off the team? Did he blow up on a teammate? "We will absolutely not entertain rumors or wild speculation."
NO MORE QUESTIONS

They've tripped up so much in their messaging that they've fueled speculation and rumors by not being tight, succinct and decisive about it.

Long-term solution league wide if this is mental health related:

if a player is presenting with mental health issues
(1) have him properly diagnosed by a psychiatrist
(2) put a treatment plan in place that the player is bound to follow
(3) allow teams to place players on injured reserve if they are properly diagnosed and following a treatment plan

This ensures that players are getting the help they need, and that teams are not abusing the IR.

The best way to normalize mental health issues in general is to recognize that they are medical conditions that can be as serious as any physical injury or illness.
Amen! This should apply to everyone but alas, getting proper treatment for mental health when you're an average joe is practically impossible these days.

Frankly there are still a lot of questions and Rutherford's "old man shaking fist at cloud" move is not going to make them go away.

Burnout is understandable but some idea of what lead to that burnout would probably be helpful. Or not! Obviously Miller is entitled to his privacy but at the end of the day he is an entertainer in the public eye and you can't help people wondering if they're hiding something. Especially since they are behaving like they are hiding something.

Anyways, super odd situation, I can't think of another time a player has left a team for this length of time without at least SOME explanation given.

I don’t know why people need to know the exact reason. It’s none of our business if Miller doesn’t want to share that. The team HAS been consistent in messaging. He’s on a leave of absence for personal reasons of needing a reset to be able to compete at the top of his game.

It’s purely the media with speculation on it was because he was benched for a few minutes or it must mean he wants to be traded or the Canucks are looking to trade. From the Canucks camp it’s been a consistent love the player and standing by the player while he deals with whatever he is dealing with.

He's going to turn heel by attacking Demko with a steel chair and then proceed to shake hands with Mark Messier at center ice in front of distraught fans.

but then taylor swift will distract the ref while kuzmenko comes back from the dead and locks him in a coffin, which they lower into a trap door in the middle of the ring.

Mmmm I think his comments are more for guys like Friedman and Servalli to get them to STFU. Fans are still going to speculate and that’s fine.

kind of taken a step back from posting as much (partly cause i can't post from my phone for some reason) - and that there is so much nonsense in these main threads it would be moot

but this has become so stupid - in a world of NHL and in a market like vancouver does it really matter what they would have said? i mean anyone with common sense or decent life experience can look at this and go.. ok, wishing him well and we'll see what happens

but a twat like doughhead uses buzz words like controlling the narrative and she's right? it's just another form of mask for people saying 'i wanna know just tell us'.. the pr department doesn't owe us or any outlet shit, this is so stupid, sooo soo stupid.

support the player/team, or not but atleast have the thought process of not being owed any type of statement, detail etc..

It's funny how different people handle the Miller thing.

I think the mature perspective is, 'wow being a human is complex, I hope he's okay as a person and because he plays for my team. Guess we'll find out when we find out'.

Then there are the incredibly credulous, 'the media (who are desperate for clicks) didn't immediately shoot down trade rumors, he must be about to be traded!'

And then my personal favorite, the hot heads who see his absence like a rorschach ink blot test to justify their own pigheaded opinions, "He's probably so angry at Petey (coincidentally, many of these folks have hundreds of vitriolic posts about him themselves) and got so angry that he can't tolerate being in the same dressing room as him'.

Holy shit.

He's not getting traded, he's going through something personal. We will know more if and when we are supposed to.

Otherwise, chill the f*** out.

Is it your personal favorite because you're doing it, too?

no kidding. everyone insisting this is just some kind of mental health break (and i'm not claiming or even insinuating it's not) are engaging in the exact amount of speculation those who insist miller is about to be traded. no one has authoritatively claimed anything publicly

I guess Rutherford and Allvin had to step in to quell the rumor mill that was starting to reach a fever pitch.

But surely both these guys know the Vancouver market by now. I mean they could have anticipated the on-line frenzy, when they simply announced that Miller was taking a leave of absence from the team.

But better late than never, I guess. At least the speculation now is focused on just how long he'll be out. The 'good news' in all this is that the team has rallied and is winning without him, and players like Pettersson and Debrusk have stepped up big time.

Rachel Doerrie was casting shade at Craig MacEwen, if you're not reading between the lines. Guy ran a horrendous operation on 650 and he brought his special talents to Canucks PR. Doctor Serazawa says let them fight.

Ever really dealt with depression/anxiety ? I doubt it. Just because you need to know right?

This... I'd thank if i could. There was a few clowns that apparently hang around with the players... sure they do. They said he wanted out and had a huge problem with Pettersson. All of a sudden like? Gesus I wouldn't want to play here with freaks chasing me around. Anyone see the wizard terrorizing Peter going to his car?

JT is likely dealing with anxiety and/or a physical ailment. But neckbeards gonna neckbeard.

If it's depression / anxiety then no reason not to say that.

As a person who has dealt with it for 8 years, it took me 6 years to open up about it. It's pretty multi layered and I won't ever comment on anyone else's situation. Mental Health is a real thing. I'm just saying I have some pretty horrific panic attacks that I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. Its gnarly.

Again... we don't know what he's going through. I hope the best for him as a human.

ahhhh but all speculation isn't created equal. some speculation is good and virtuous and other speculation is evil and sinful. If you're having trouble figuring out if your particular brand of speculation is the good or bad kind, worry not, some moral authority will simply tell you how it is.

I am proud that Miller understands his limitations and that he was not the best version of himself currently. It is not easy to admit that you are not yourself and spiraling downwards. Nagging injuries and Miller always being so intense must be draining mentally and physically. I hope he comes back when he wants and not succumb to outside pressure. Having Miller in the line-up 100% healthy (physically and mentally) will do wonders for the Canucks.

I believe Rutherford did the right thing speaking on the situation yesterday but I think he should have spoken earlier. With Petey coming around I can not wait to have our heart beat of a player back in Miller!

I’ve been discriminated by psychiatrists before. Why would anyone expect mercy or understanding by a group as dumb, ignorant and malicious as Vancouver fans/media? People can feign understanding and then be shitty behind your back…still though, he should’ve told this f***ing fan base about his supposed mental illness! I told a longtime friend of 20 years about my shit and then he was no longer my friend. People are so ignorant about this shit that there’s a reason I talk to one other person about it.

If it's depression / anxiety then no reason not to say that.

I wish the world worked that way. There isn't a person outside of my wife and kiddos that know I'm on anti-depressants for anxiety and moderate depression....well now everyone on this board knows. lol.

It's not an easy thing to talk about and it's not something that people often want others knowing about. Nor is it anyone else's business.

Rick says Miller has been skating on his own with Jason Krog, and "we will see" if he practices today at 11:30. He says he won't return until he's practicing with the team. But says he's been skating and working out this week which is a good sign.

Yep. He was at Burnaby winter club yesterday skating which is weird , why not at Rog?
