LeBrun: DeBrincat will most likely be traded, agent has submitted list of preferred destinations

I don't think its that he doesnt want to be there as much as him not being ready to commit the next 8yrs of his career to a city & country he's lived in for 1yr.

Everyone saw this coming except for the idiots at the helm of the Senators. The fact they didn't discuss an extension before the trade is just peak stupidity.

There's no proof the issue is with the country and not with Ottawa specifically, it's all speculation on your part. They typically have a hard time attracting good players long term unless they're native (i.e. Giroux)

Speculation is that he wants out of Ottawa specifically. What we know is that he probably isn’t willing to commit beyond 1yr in Ottawa, but that doesn’t mean his problem is with Ottawa specifically. This is a simple statement of logic.

All that we really know is that he prefers Central American teams. But of course the few sad trolls of the Habs fan base need something to latch onto, so…. latch away, baby

He doesn't. His preferred team list (where he'll extend) so far is Detroit, Dallas, Nashville, Vegas, and Florida.

So he either wants to go home or somewhere with warm weather and no state income tax.

Yeah cause good UFAs just love to sign in Montreal haha

You love dumping on your hometown because of hockey/HF. You strike me as very insecure (and I don't think Ottawa is that great either, it is just fine).

First paragraph has merit.

Re: 2nd paragraph:

Q1: Do you think Montreal was listed on his list of teams he'd like to be traded to?

Q2: What other Canadian teams did Alex list?

Q3: Have you been following the media reports on this subject?

That's weird, why would an NHL player as good as him want to play in Costa Rica? :sarcasm:

Who has divulged this exactly? Pretty sure all we know is his agent has a 10 team prefered list.

Several outlets, Detroit and no tax states. We actually don’t know it’s 10 teams as only 5-6 teams were mentioned.

You're both right, I rushed that response and the result was sloppy

By taking him to arbitration to force a contract that takes him straight to ufa is certainly something. Essentially, the Senators are making him into a 1yr rental for whoever ends up trading for him.

Well that was happening one way or another. Any team picking him up can still sign him to a deal if its before arbitration. And the hard fact is if he is not traded by the draft, he is a Senator come September is all likelihood and will have to wait until TDL.

Seems like working out a sign and trade would be in everyone’s best interest, but what do I know. Strongarming DeBrincat inti a 1yr deal on a team he doesn’t want to play for seems counterproductive. But maybe it’s a negotiating tactic. If it is, it’s a horrible one, at least from my POV

And if they did not, Debrincat was strong arming them into a one year deal then leaving. There was zero doubt he was taking the 9M. There is no negotiation at this point, so Ottawa wants him for as low a price as possible.

This is now all about trade value. They expect the arbitration award will be less than his QO. That ups his trade value. I'm not convinced the arbitration award will be at a full 15% reduction like many assume, but I think its pretty much assured to be below the QO. Its basically a zero risk move for the Sens with some value upside. So what if Debrincats feelings are hurt by this move. He was moving on anyways.

Doesn't sound like we *actually* know who's on his list. Lebrun was just speculating that Florida/Nashville/Dallas/Vegas were on it. I'm not ruling out Debrincat staying if the ownership situation appears to be settled and they back a dump truck full of money to his driveway. Particularly since the trade offers aren't going to be close to what they paid to get him.

I was actually born and raised in Montreal, that being said, I think Ottawa is a fantastic city. It's just not a hockey city.

Wings 17th overall straight up for DeBrincat. Thats the best Dorion can hope for.

I think he would want the lowest of your 40's 2nd round pick in there to pull trigger as he seeks to recoup some of the lost value from Hawks trade and safe face

What is it #41-43 you guys have?

He gave up a 7th overall (Kevin Korchinski) + 39th overall (Paul Ludwinski) and 2024 3rd rounder (I just assume Davidson will draft a guy with name that ends in ski) for Debrincat

This is bunk. He's about to commit 8-9 years to a city he's never lived in. It's very specific to Ottawa and/or the Senators.
No, it’s very specific to his hometown, and no tax states, he wants to go to, like other poster said, it’s Canada.
DeBrincat said things like he has to get used to Celsius, his soft drinks are in milliliters not ounces, only 1 chipotle place, instead of lots, like in the states.

Well he can't be traded until January 1st, but it's very unlikely it ever gets to arbitration. Flames did the same thing with Tkachuk last year.

As for Cat, his preferred list is apparently just Detroit and a bunch of low-tax states, so there's no way he's signing here.

Guy just wants a maximum pay day, and it seems like he wants it in his home country. Can't blame him for wanting to maximize his earnings . . . just sucks that this wasn't made evident before the Senators traded a good haul for him. Or that he had the worst year of his career.

Hopefully the Sens can get a decent return somewhat close to what they gave to get him, and transition that into filling a bigger need on the team.

Totally doable to use 8 million in cap space to sign a two way, middle 6 winger and a decent starting goalie.

But the list is made up. He never named those cities. It’s just the low hanging fruit (his hometown and non tax, warm weather places) that are usually favorites.
