But the list is made up. He never named those cities. It’s just the low hanging fruit (his hometown and non tax, warm weather places) that are usually favorites.
The list is not made up. You have respected hockey guys like LeBrun saying, his agent said….

So you only believe these types of lists if the player reads them on TV?

I was actually born and raised in Montreal, that being said, I think Ottawa is a fantastic city. It's just not a hockey city.
Interesting

That isn't what you said back when you used to, for whatever reason, bug us on our board

"I was raised in Montreal but went to school with Cody Ceci"

Dude, you have issues

They had to do this for two reasons. 1) If they didn't qualify him, he becomes a UFA and his trade value is next to nothing other than an exclusive negotiating window. 2) It will establish an actual $ value for him, in terms of cap hit, for future teams, if he actually gets to arbitration before he is traded.

If Cat makes it to arb, his value drops considerably. Known salary or not

Not disagreeing, but had to include the possibility of arbitration because it takes two teams to make a trade and Ottawa could try to overstate their want to take back higher value.

Depends.

He could end up being a good top 6 guy signed to a one year deal @ 7.75 (I think, the 15% reduction). It just takes two teams to want him for the potential return to get a lot better.

We aren't getting back what we paid but that was the case the day the trade was made. We've made peace with that.

Probably. But he's not going to get there.

The Senators had to file for club-elected arbitration to protect both themselves and whichever team acquires him in trade. If they didn't do this, he'd just take his 9M QO and then he's strictly an expensive, 1-year rental. In that scenario his cap is bloated and you can't even talk extension until Jan 1st, 2024.

Now whichever team acquires DeBrincat has 6-8 weeks to negotiate a long-term contract with him or - failing that - can get him on a 1-year deal at a reduced rate relative to his QO.

I dont think he makes it there either but the post i quoted sounded more like value was going to be better post arb. I dont think that is the case at all. It eliminates all control for the gaining team, reducing value by near half.

Where is this? All articles referring to this say, my guess is/my bet is... just making things up. No one has said, my sources indicate this or that. It's just 100% made up based on what other players have done prior. That's all LeBrun said in a June 7th article.

That was never even a confirmed list just speculation it should be treated as such

He has more value post-arbitration than he would if the Sens just let him accept his 9M QO. Not much, but ~1.4M can be a substantial difference in a flat-cap environment.

Control can be nice, but I don't know that it changes the value calculus all that much here. We've seen in the past that having an extension in the hopper doesn't necessarily mean you give up a ton more in trade. Fiala [mid 1st and Faber], Horvat [mid 1st, Aatu Raty and Anthony Beauvillier], and Stone [Brannstrom and 2nd] all basically went for rental value.

Any team acquiring DeBrincat is basically just trading for the right to lock a guy into a contract that he'll probably never provide a great surplus value on. It's hard to outpace an ~8M cap charge.

If the Sens can get a mid-1st and a decent prospect they'll have done pretty well in this situation.

TSN insider trading, he said. ( not made up, sorry to burst your bubble.)

What’s happened here is DeBrincat’s camp, led by agent Jeff Jackson, has submitted a list of preferred destinations that his client would be interested in joining. The reason that’s significant is that if general manager Pierre Dorion does trade DeBrincat, he would want him to be signed through this trade so he could get maximum value back in return.

He should get ~7.750 via arbitration.

Sens should eat 50% and trade him as a rental at 3.875 which should net them a better return IMO

Lmao all it said was he submitted a list, meanwhile the actual teams on that list has never been named and is unknown which is what the discussion is about. It is unknown which teams are on the list despite your pretentious claims for someone who has been here since 2005 I expected your reading and comprehension skills to be better than that.

Problem is that works if the team sucks, but if team is in the playoffs or very close, that becomes hard to do.

Sorry I meant during the summer. I think arbitration happens in August? He can still be traded to a team that can re-sign him long term before then though. Worst case is he gets around 8m and we eat half to whoever wants him. Should net a decent return as most teams can afford that.

I don't think the Sens open the regular season with DeBrincat on the roster at this point.
