Shipping Joseph out is the easiest answer. It would make us cap compliant with DBC and Pinto getting a cheap 1 year 1.5m extension. The bottom depth will still be bad however, you'd have to fill it with our AHL prospects and hope Greig/Soko are ready to make the jump and adapt quickly. Not ideal but technically doable, that's the easiest way if we have to keep him. Caphit total ends up around 83.

Shipping out Joseph will save ~2.100 and cost us at least a 1st round pick.

That's essentially paying (another) 1st just to keep DeBrincat for 1 year before he bolts as a UFA for 'free'.

Not sure what it would cost or if he can be unloaded for nothing, but its the quickest and easiesr fix i can think of if you have to keep dbc at seasons start. Moving Brannstrom could be another. Since Samsonov elected for arb, Murray likely gets bought out now and we get some cap back from that as well. Well see what happens with DBC first.

I’m beginning to hope this trade happens now. Just to see the year long pissing match of how Detroit is using him smarter, or Pinto vs Rasmussen if Larkin goes down, or how Seider no longer laughs at him.

Could be a good first step in what’s likely to be, a big rivalry over the next ten years.

Theyre both building pretty big, mean teams whose timelines are lining up pretty well with each other right now. Could be one of the better division rivalries in a while. Wait til some rats like Kasper, Mazur and Grieg are added to the mix.

In this thread I learned the Sens might as well waive the worthless little Debrincat so the Wings can pick him up.
Lol exactly.

Especially wings fans offering less than pure rentals get at the deadline is the absurd part. He won’t be traded for nothing regardless. He will at least get the late 1st + A/B level prospect return. How that shakes down if PD wants a roster player is up to you in terms of achieving the goal.

I think there's some exaggeration on both sides.

He's a very good player with short stature. That alone will be polarizing. But couple that with the unique story unfolding of Ottawa paying a hefty price to get him without an extension, then injuries around him leading to a dip in production, then him wanting out, and you have several sources of tension for when he might get dealt and for what return.

I think he gets traded before the season starts, and the Sens add Tarasenko immediately thereafter. It's just whether terms get ironed out with Detroit before another team (that he's willing to extend with) finds a way to jump in with a better offer.

It's posts like this that give me some reason to keep coming back to this forum. Thank you for a level headed, not insane take.

Also, yeah from the news starting to leak, this is most likely the scenario right now.

Also also, if Detroit is the only team really in on him and Ottawa is trying for Tarasenko then Ottawa fans are probably going to be very disappointed in the return.

I generally enjoy watching the differing GM’ing styles around this situation. Yzerman must be furious that any information is being publicly discussed by anyone, while Dorian keeps pushing more narratives and leverage through the media. Great stuff.

Gonna be interesting if Red Wings end up right against the cap while half of their fans were saying overpaying for all their UFAs didn't matter because of how far they were below the cap.

It's such a non factor.

I get that people want so badly for this to be an issue but it's just not.
We have short term contracts on the books. Only 3 guys are signed past the 25-26 season.
Next year we have 16M coming off the books and we have a pipeline of prospects ready to make the jump on their ELC.

Take a look at cap friendly, we have tons of cap space becoming available each year. Currently we have 9.8m available, next year we have 37.5m, the following year 59m, the following year 72m.

After this season we have Perron, Kub, Sprong, Fischer, Ghost and Reimer all coming off the books.
