To Washington: Alex Debrincat + 2023 1st (12th OA)*
To Arizona: Anthony Mantha + 2023 1st (8th OA) + Connor McMichael + Lassi Thomson
To Ottawa: Lawson Crouse

*Originally Ottawa's 1st rounder that was traded to Arizona for Chychrun

Washington moves down 4 spots in the draft but adds Debrincat and dumps Mantha
Arizona moves up 4 spots in the draft, gets two prospects that can play for them next year, and picks up Mantha who they can flip again at next year's deadline for more picks
Ottawa adds Crouse to replace Debrincat
Seems like Washington makes out like bandits here? The drop from 8 to 12 can't be worth that much. Mantha is a buyout candidate.

I think Nashville makes sense for a bunch of reasons, but none include Saros leaving.

1. Trotz doesn't want to rebuild but doesn't want to sell the farm either.

2. They barely missed the playoffs but now have a new coach, a new GM who used to be an elite coach, and a solid core in place with some young pieces improving. They may end up with the best goalie duo in Saros/Askarov, one of the best Dmen in the league, and great Top 6 especially if the Cat is in there.

3. They have a whack ton of picks. They have 2 1sts in this draft - 15th overall and 24th overall, in addition to 2 1sts in 2025 and a whack ton of 2nds. Lots of draft capital to play with for a non-rebuilding team.

4. They have the money and space to sign ADB to an 8x8.5M extension, where he will be there for his prime years 25-33 years old.

5. Nashville is a dope city to live and play in, way better than Ottawa, and only a couple of states away from Michigan and Illinois where all of their family and friends are.

I think if ADB agrees to sign long term in NSH before a trade, a fair trade would be:

DeBrincat (signed 8x8.5)
Brannstrom (RFA ~$1.2M)

for

2023 NSH 1st (15th)
2023 EDM 1st (24th)
Meh prospect/2nd?

Ottawa uses the picks and other prospects to pry Hart+Konecny out of Philly.
Yes nashville with its budding crop of 40 point centers should totally give up their 1st rounds picks this year and a 2nd for a expensive winger

I love how the agent has given a list of "preferred" teams like he is a soon to be UFA. one of those teams could offer sheet him--but the sens can trade him to whomever they like and that team can match any offer sheet that may come in

Ya but Ottawa is going to want to trade him with extension in place to up the value they get

Someone tell me what this means for Pierre Dorion.

If he lands great assets in return for DeBrincat will he keep his job?

I feel if they have OV, they’ll try and be competitive for a few more years.
Yeah, but it is kinda counter productive since Ottawa likely wants a hockey trade not futures, so it would have to be around Wilson or Kuzy

Cat for Wilson extensions on both sides?

WSH get more skill and Ottawa gets grit and become the most agitating team in the league with both him and Brady.

OV and Cat both occupy the same one-timer office on the PP. You'd have to split those silly boys up across both units.

I don't love the fit on Cat in Washington but if fans are for it, go wild.

Kuzy….make it so….

Friedman says he thinks Detroit, Vegas, Florida, Dallas, and Nashville are on DeBrincat’s list
Which of these teams actually makes sense?
Det: YES? - they have the draft capital and cap space to sign long term + the need for scoring winger, and hes from michigan BUT hes within ottawas division.
Vegas - NO Not enough cap space and 1st is late (likely 32 OA)
Florida - NO, has the cap but no 1st in the next 3 years (oof)
Dallas - MAYBE? Cap space under 7.5 and no 1st rounder, will need room to to sign Johnston few years
Nashville -MAYBE? they have cap space and draft capital, but don't really need another small winger expensive contract

What is weirder? The Ottawa Senators' process of selling their team? Or the DeBrincat situation?

We're not trading both of our 1sts in a draft we're hosting for a winger we don't need.
Ohhhhh crap I forgot it's in Nashville. Yeah no way they move their 1sts, if anything they could probably package some 2nds for a 3rd 1st this year.

Why the hell isn't Duchene playing C there then? He'd probably still be a low-end 1C. Especially with someone like Cat on his wing, those two off the rush would be ridiculous.

But yeah no way they trade both 1sts with the draft in NSH.

No from Arizona (or Salt Lake or Houston or wherever we might end up). Just no

Duchene sucks at center, he's much better at wing.

This reminds me of Tkachuk's trade list from last offseason. It was the 1 team he really wanted to go to (Blues in his case, Red Wings in Debrincat's), and all of the backup destinations were teams in states with no income tax.

Sort of reads like damage control to me. Like maybe he doesn't want to seem like a bad apple for asking out, but now all sides are realizing there isn't the trade market that they wanted/needed to make a trade happen. So it's more likely he's back. (Whether by accepting the QO or signing longer). So he better make it seem like he wanted that all along.

That's my guess. DeBrincat is in a weird spot with his QO and contract wishes relative to the type of player that he is. Namely a very small offense-only winger. Here is the top end of the payscale for sub 5'11" forwards. Does DeBrincat really slot into the top half of that list? So not only is the contract value way high, but you have to trade for the opportunity to offer said contract. I don't see teams lining up for that.

It's either this or he's not getting the money he thinks he deserves from Ottawa, and putting pressure on them to pay up.

I don't really see any other logical reasoning for it.

Does he have it in his contract that he can choose his destination if not i hope the sens will tell him to go f*** himself with his prefered destination

I get thinking it would work in some vindictive way, but then why would a team Cat doesn't extend with give up a lot. That's just another lose lose for Ottawa
