I am not a big Georgiev fan nor do I want to make excuses for him, but I know that that Hamilton goal is hard to track. I've both done it and had it done to me as a dman. It can be very hard on the goalie to know when the puck is coming off the stick. It is a great shot to take and, honestly, I don't think guys do it enough. That's a good goal.

I'd have to watch it again but it feels like Georgiev wasn't quite square to the puck. Maybe if he was it ticks off his shoulder instead. Seemed like he was still moving for some reason. But...maybe I'm misremembering

I'm glad the team pulled it out. As much as its good to pile up points in these games, I feel like they are really important for developing the younger players. The Devils and CBJ, they play hard and they have varying degrees of talent but they give up a lot of space in their own zone. These are the kinds of matchups that were hardly on the schedule last season. And they're really important for development.

You want to see the Kakkos, Lafs, Chytils, Gauths, Millers and Lundkvists grow and contribute in these games. And as the season progresses, a very long season, you want to be able to rely on the secondary scoring and the kids to win these games instead of having to play your best players big minutes. It's similar to baseball where you might sit your stars on a Sunday afternoon game.

Speaking of the kids, I feel like Lundkvists game continues to trend in the right direction. He's been the steadier guy in the bottom pair the last few games and he's cleaned up most of his mistakes and misreads. Hopefully, by the end of the year, he's looking good against the better teams as well. Same for all the kids. But, on Monday against MTL, we need the kids to produce again.

Good point on the schedule as compared to last season. And also I agree on Lundkvist. He has been solid. Hitting a bit too. He has made mistakes and shown some nerves. But he’s also broadly pretty fearless. I think he’s actually a bit more defensive-minded that he gets credit for. To me, at least up ‘til now, am I crazy in thinking he’s more Lindgren than he is, say, Fox or Jones?

Top 5 in the league after 15 with only a slice of those on home ice - kids firing today - Kreider starring…..

Sure, we’re not perfect but I reckon a lot of us should be ok with where we are - we may not be playing GREAT hockey but they’re grinding out the results.

I’ll take it.

Can you just let Panarin take all SO attempts in a row or is there a rule against it? The guy is sitting at 2nd place in all time NHL shootout goal percentage ranking (27 attempts, 17 goals, 63%. )

Would be hilarious.

If we played IIHF rules we would be able to

When is it time to admit that Fox is better than Leetch? I can’t think of any argument for Leetch over Fox except for playoff success. Even my dad who’s a major old head agrees which is surprising

Fox wasn't even good by his standards tonight, regardless of the star. That turnover that led to the 3 on 1 was one of his most egregious errors of his career.

That really doesn’t matter with my post. I’m not saying he’s better than Leetch because of today’s game. Just over time since he’s entered the league I feel NYR fans are very hesitant (and with good reason) to claim and admit that he’s better than Leetch but I feel like it’s time to finally say that Fox will be better than Leetch with the main boards thread up. Adam Fox will be better than Brian Leetch.

why do you feel it's necessary to compare the current best defenseman in the league to the greatest player our favorite organization has ever had? If Fox continues this pace of outstanding play over the course of the next 14 years, leads the team to a stanley cup, goes to 11 all star games and plays in over 1,200 NHL games, then sure we can have the conversation comparing the two. Until then, just enjoy the ride.

Usually I'd be with you. But he looked so off last season and we said it's because of covid and so on, I was one of those saying that shit. But he hasn't looked good so far, it's alarming.

We need more consistency from him.

Did you miss the 2nd half of the season?

One thing I noticed...when the rangers had puck support and executed their short passing name to break through the forecheck and get through the neutral zone..they looked f***ing great. They really did. When they tried to stretch things out and make the passes longer and longer..it's when they looked like dog shit

I can see the short game being something they really harp on. Because most teams want the rangers to try to stretch it and to beat them with a bunch of bodies in the neutral zone.

Very much a Tom renney 5 in the picture situation.... As the guys are closer together the puck support is there and they're harder to beat.

That will be ten Hail Mary’s and one Our Father young man. Then go out and sin no more for at least another two years.

Good thing he’s smart enough to not take an instigator in a close game.
I’d imagine if he did, Subban would turtle, and the devs would be on the PP.
However somebody must take his number and settle it later.
Or are you inferring that having a guy like Reaves/Goodrow/Blais has no effect on how the team plays?
Or the influence they have on the opposing team?

I'm not inferring anything.

I'm saying that Reaves was acquired specifically to avenge and/or prevent incidents like Subban's latest.

I know this to be true because lots of fans whined that we needed a player like him after the Wilson incident and were ecstatic when we got him.

I also know this to be true because Reaves has said so.

The hit on Blais is just another incident where there was no response. Personally, I don't care, but it’s funny that things are no different, now. Winning makes it a non-issue.

What exactly is this mythological deterrence if it's still happening?

Reaves is a great personality, which is good for the locker room. He also moves like he's skating in slush.

I was at the Garden for my first game of the season! What a night!!! This team looks fantastic live- very quick, very skilled and very cohesive. The difference between last year and this year is night and day. The Rangers swarm the puck— constant pressure all over the ice especially lose pucks in the offensive zone they decisively attack that puck! It’s so great to see and it’s why they had so many shots last night. Also what’s impressive is how often they keep the puck in the offensive zone. Again, this is accomplished by puck support up high as the forwards really come up high the offensive zone to help the defense up high by allowing a short chip pass off the boards. It’s clearly impressive live.

Great start it the season. Could not be happier that the team finally has a legitimate coach, legitimate 4 lines, legitimate 3 defensive pairs, a system that works, an elite goaltender and a serviceable backup!
