Basu's rumour piece in the athletic is out today...and the only rumour he's hearing is Armia / Evans combo for a 1st
he thinks habs hold onto Dvorak and savard because the return won't be worth using a retention spot and habs are going to need guys to finish the year without raiding laval who may go on a long playoff run

Rantanen refused the terms in Colorado
Carolina willing to offer what he wants but rejects it , even tho Carolina is a good team

Why would he go in Montreal. Dude sounds like LITRer in 3 years

They all want to play to Vegas, Florida or Tampa these days......weather and taxes !!!
So he'll probably wait to see if he can get into those teams.

You were saying?
Still not conviced to keep ordinary players when better options could happen. Dach is not in my future plans if I was the gm. He doesn't interrest me at center and I wonder if better winger could fill the spot. I'm for a brand new center, a 2nd center at the right age, acquired by trade or ufa signing. Then at 3rd center Newhook for a year or two, Beck at 4c. No need to keep Evans and Dvorak, see!
Even Dach could be used to get that famous 2nd center. Dach and somehing else for that established center. Hughes have the cards to make it. And also : Hage is coming in 2 years.

I can see Winnipeg offering 1st round pick for Jake Evans and David Savard. Maybe they throw in another consideration draft pick if they make to the finals.

Christian Dvorak should be a good 4th liner on a cup contender. I see a team might offer up a 2nd or 3rd round pick
Joel Armia is perfect 4th liner on a contender so maybe a 2nd or 3rd like Dvorak.

There are some values with Jake Evans, David Savard, Christian Dvorak and Joel Armia for sure. These are the types of players that get moved during trade deadlines.

Hugo will save that 10M for a big time D man to pair with Hutson dw boys.

Basu must have read my post from a couple days ago.
Typical.
I also don't think we actually trade all the UFAs as they wanna see the young guys make a run in Laval, and some of our FA are closer to being 'ass' than 'assets'.

Based on what exactly? Rantanen’s missed 28GP total, in this his 9th NHL season
he looks like he wants to sign where he wants and take it easy. He looks like a guy that doesnt want to win anymore neither care. If he refused the 12m of Colorado 8 years , hes just looking for money and his favorite place. If Carolina is not enough then lil pup wants to play in Cali or Tampa/Florida

Looks to me like he wants to sign in fiscal paradise Florida. Where else?

Some of you are worried that by trading our UFA vets, we are automatically decreasing the odds of a championship run in Laval. That's not an automatic. Like in previous years, there will be some journeymen players put on waivers that we can pick up to bridge till the end of the year.

I have faith in KH to do the right thing. We will know more very soon.

Which is more likely: one of the best players in the league has given up as soon as he got a new contract worth 11.6m/year or that something is ailing him and preventing him from performing to the level he wants?

If Rantanen wants to win and/or motivated by personal stats, Montreal could be an attractive option:
-Young offensive talent around him, but he'd play more minutes
-Demidov especially is an interesting player to get to play with
-Finnish connection in Montreal historically and currently
-great fanbase and game atmosphere
-We have the money to pay him even with taxes (as others have pointed out)

Basically he'd be getting in on the ground floor of a good contending roster, but also (some what confusingly) he is a big reason why it would become a contending roster. A forward group with: Suzuki, Caufield, Slafkovsky, Laine, Rantanen, Demidov as its base is very nice. So long as Hughes can negotiate with his agent beforehand and put a deal in place, I'd be ready to make an offer.

I would just throw 100m at Rantanen and if he accepts great and if not thats fine too at least we tried a player of Rantanen caliber doesnt come by often and us being at the end of our rebuild is pretty perfect since we get a ton of cap space back with gallagher dvo price and them off the books.

I would offer Caps Armia and Savard, one of them retained, for Chesley. Evans to Leafs for a first. Could throw in Devils 3rd.
