No, our prospect pool is ranked like 18th.

We have some young talent on the roster but that’s not the prospect pool.

We actually would have been hard pressed to future needs had we given up too much for rentals this deadline; luckily, we mostly abstained.
The gaps at this point are gonna have to be filled in mostly by trade, and some smart FA signings.

Of course they still have needs, Drury didn't fix everything with one trade deadline. But what I said is true, he addressed areas of need with his acquisitions. He didn't part with any premium assets to do it. Look how young the roster is, look at the players locked in to term. There are very limited opportunities for all of our prospects to make it here so we have a ton of organizational depth both at the NHL level and prospect level, tons of players who are all around the same age and timeline. A team in the position we're in can afford to lose draft picks more than a team that is on the comedown from a window or something. Drury did do relatively light renting like you suggest he should've, with the highest price paid for a player in Copp he probably tries to re-sign.

I can agree we did relatively well today while also contending that we are not in as strong a position as some say in terms of organizational depth. We iced like 5 AHLers at a time up until today. We have nothing at forward besides Othmann.

And defense will get thin quickly. We need those prospects so we can get rid of the Nemeths of the world. We have about one spare but that prospect needs to be earmarked for a long term center.

Not many trade chips after that.

Yeah, they will have to… because our prospect pool is already dwindling and yet our NHL roster is full of holes (especially if Strome/Copp and Motte leave).

Lookit, I’m not “bitching,” about today, but this myth that the Rangers possess endless trade assets and are set for a decade already is woefully untrue. They did not finish rebuilding their forwards for the NHL level and their farm system has nothing to help either. They are an incomplete long term project and it got harder today.

That’s the price of competing this minute for an impatient owner. We are lucky it wasn’t more expensive.

Arbitrary 18th when the Rangers had a top 5 youngest roster coming into deadline day

That’s not arbitrary. It may be offset by the fact that we have young talent on the roster.

But I’d counter that by saying the NHL roster is also incomplete.

Dwindling? lol.

They've graduated players and traded one guy away.

They'll trade others to fill holes, as every team does.
Yes, dwindling.

Not an issue for a team like Carolina who is ahead of us in the standings and in their prospect pool; and more expected from teams like the Caps and Pens who expended all their assets but actually won.

At least we aren’t the Islanders - no farm and no hardware to show, but coming out of a rebuild we should have more in the system or less holes.

But we cut off our rebuild too early.

In mas fantasy land we need 2 1Cs. 4 elite wingers. 2 #1 defensmen. leagues best depth. and #1 rated prospect pool by Scott Wheeler.

only then will we be ready to compete for a cup.

If by fantasy land you mean pointing to examples of elite teams that actually exist and are better than us.

Only in Ranger delirium land is it impossible to build a juggernaut through the draft.

Well first it really isn't, we have plenty of guys in the system still. But that is going to happen anyway. Not all these players are going to play for this team. Rangers didn't give up anything today that they would have absolutely needed for a big summer move.

Secondly, if it seems less, it's because two first round picks went straight to the NHL, Fox went straight to the NHL from college, Miller is already in the NHL, Schneider was only drafted a year and a half ago and is already here. A lot of their best guys are already playing, which is what a rebuilding team does.

I can't read them because I don't subscribed. They are by far the lowest ranking though. There are many others that ranked them from 5 to 11. Pretty damn good when you combine that with the relatively young age of the current team.

There’s no way we are 5th unless they are counting guys on our NHL roster.

It says we have the worst chance of making it to the 3rd, 4th round or winning the cup of any team in the playoffs, even worse than teams that are just outside of the playoffs lol 🥲
We will see what the numbers look like from now until the beginning of the playoffs. That's really all that matters now with all of the new additions.

I agree with your latter contention.

But I maintain we still need two young centers and another young winger; guys like Berard and Panjuniemi exist to fill out the roster as cheap replacements for bottom 6 guys, not as legit top 6 talent. There is none of that in our pipeline.

They just had a great deadline. Berard, Othmann, Cuylle, Jones, Lundkvist, Robertson to name a few prospects and they are one of the youngest teams in the league that is on pace for 110 points and the playoffs. Why is it so damn hard for you to not be Eeyore?

They had an ok deadline. I’ll give it a B.

And I’m sorry to break it to you but this team still has all the markings of a long term second round playoff exit just like it was so consistently in the Henrik days.

We are not built like the Penguins, Lightning, Kings, Blackhawks, the teams that win like 90% of the Cups.

I am not gonna advocate for anything less than that. If we don’t look like them, we are a factual statistical long shot.

Keep acquiring long term young talent or this will all likely be a waste of time.

The Rangers seem to be interested in adding guys with some familiarity with existing players. Copp/Vatrano/Motte/Trouba, Rakell/Mika rumors and even Braun was a teammate of Goodrow during some Sharks playoff runs
Hopefully my post will go unnoticed… usually when this happens it points toward the trust in that player and his ability to lead… wouldn’t be surprised to see Trouba with the C next season.

We've had a #1 and #2 pick. What top teams have more than that? We have a Hart. Vezina. 1C. Norris... but we need more. We need another 1C. We need better prospect pool, even though Scott Wheeler doesn't count Nils or any other 2nd year pros like KAM or Laffy in his rankings. No Kakko.

Our entire team is set, we are waiting for Laffy and Kakko to develop. We are waiting for our defenders and depth to develop. We also have depth prospects ready to step in when cap becomes an issue. This is year 1 of competing. You aren't cup favorites in year 1.

once again, you need to re-evaluate.

They got better and will continue to get better. Who ever said they were done building the team? Can't you just enjoy the ride instead of constantly pointing out what this team doesn't have?

I can do both. Why can’t you? I was at the game yesterday and had a wonderful time, that doesn’t stop me from speaking the truth about the team.

They will get better. But they need young center depth desperately. If Kravtsov isn’t returning they need another wing too.

They have work to do.

They need to stop acting like it’s “definitely,” the right thing to buy all the time. It’s not. They need to do a little more stockpiling of talent at forward still.

Once they find a solution to this issue they will be way more insulated long term, but they have ignored their opportunity to fix this problem too many times.

And again, to make sure I’m clear, I’m not saying they shouldn’t have traded for Copp. I’m just saying that this idea that “people don’t know what they are talking about,” if they are not all aboard for renting is bullshit.

Here’s where someone will tell me “the team has decided it’s not rebuilding anymore.” The team is wrong. Chris Drury gets a failing grade if he doesn’t recognize he needs more long term young talent at forward. This team was icing Julien Gauthier and Dryden Hunt at forward recently.

We will see.

If anyone is thought the difference between stopping the rebuild short and going all-in was losing Morgan Barron and a 2nd, I’m not sure what to tell you. Especially with the chance to resign one of the pieces we got back who is much better than Barron.
