Staple said this in his latest about Strome and Copp:

And with Ryan Strome’s future beyond this season still in doubt, having Copp on an extension could mean Filip Chytil is moved in the summer to create more cap space to retain Strome and make the Rangers as strong down the middle as any of their Eastern Conference counterparts.
Arthur clearly not a Chytil fan lol

Said for weeks dadanov would be the one traded from Vegas while some people here kept saying they would have to give Smith away for free.

Copp is a rental so it doesn’t matter if the window is ‘opening’. If we aren’t ready to compete in the playoffs NOW, then those two 2nds and a 5th were a waste.
Not sure we make the trade if we dont think we can make a run at resigning him

Because our analytics suck.

Another reason it would be beautiful to win. All the nerds have their wires crossed. But muh numbers say this can’t happen

It doesn’t say it can’t, it says it’s extremely rare, which it is.

Tons of people wanted Gourde

Gourde, 30 years old (December birthday), plays Center, 5.166 per year for this year and next 3 years (through age 33 season)

2021: 56 games, 36 points (17 goals, 19 assists) 48.7% on faceoffs
2022: 55 games, 38 points (16 goals, 22 assists) 48.8% on faceoffs

Copp, 27 years old (July birthday), plays Center, UFA at end of year but reportedly asked for 5 years 5 per year (would cover seasons age 28, 29, 30, 31, 32)

2021: 55 games, 39 points (15 goals, 24 assists) 53% on faceoffs
2022: 56 games, 35 points (13 goals, 22 assists) 54% on faceoffs

Both are known for very good 2 way play, ability to play PK and be used throughout the lineup

Completely different groups now... on both sides.

I'm not understanding all the love for Minnesota's moves though. I felt like they were a mixed bag. I like the Middleton addition and Jost was a decent risk to take but MAF is pretty cooked and Deslauriers sucks.

Kaprizov and his line got completely shat on in the playoffs last year. It's not a huge sample size but they were completely obliterated. That can't happen for them again.

The Wild have built that team to beat their opponents up. Deslauriers and Middleton back up their squad of cheapshot artists. Scary team out west but I think MAF is their ondoing in the playoffs, he’s so overrated

We definitely gave up a hefty price. But yeah I just don’t understand the problem with it. When you have a team playing like it is now that price is definitely worth it. We never know what next year can hold.

It’s not like we went balls out and ditched everyone for JT to make a run
People have a hard time understanding that the value you're trading away in a trade is not binary. If you have more assets you can afford to slightly overpay. A team that is coming out of a 4 year rebuild where they accumulated a boatload of assets and made a boat load of draft picks and have tons of good prospects who won't ever make the Rangers simply because of numbers and timelines, the more you can afford to give more in a trade. For example, a first round pick is way more expendable now to the Rangers than it was to the Rangers in 2017 after years of not having one.

A team at the end of their window after exhausting almost all of their asset ammunition trading their last few valuable draft picks is a hell of a lot different than what Drury did today. Also, the goal of this whole shebang is to win the cup, not have the prettiest farm system. So even if you don't think the Rangers are perfect, considering the timelines of some of their leaders, the season Igor is having, their place in the standings, their deep farm system and plentiful cupboard - it would've been negligent of Drury to not try and improve the team. You lose a few draft picks and a fringe prospect and for that cost you addressed multiple areas of need for this team as they head into the playoffs. That's exactly what Drury should've done in this situation and he did it without trading any of our top prospects. Job well done and anyone saying otherwise just doesn't understand what they're talking about.

A lot in this post is not actually true so I wouldn’t be so quick to declare who doesn’t know what they are talking about.

They’ll be KO’d by the Flames but it’ll be a nasty series.

The playoffs in both conferences are going to be wars. So many evenly matched teams and everyone seems to have loaded up. Whoever wins it all this year will have earned it

What isn't true? A team that has stocked their cupboard and has an overflowing farm system isn't able to make their draft picks a bit more expendable in trades than a team with a barren farm system is?

We have a lot of needs still. Our farm system is no longer stocked, it’s more like middle of the pack. It’s never good to overpay in trade. Igor is so young as is most of our core that it’s absolutely not “negligent,” to go light on renting, or even to sell if we wanted to.

Most of us are ok with this outcome but it’s not like it’s the only viable one.

Looking back at the Roster thread. 1 of the 4 players acquired at the deadline were “sought after” by posters here. (Copp)

Copp was on A lot of people wish lists. Not as much maybe as Lehkonen but he was mentioned often.

Braun- I don’t think he was ever mentioned
Vatrano - nobody mentioned him at all
Motte- Maybe one or two posts mentioned him as a depth guy

For all 4, only Copp was mentioned by the beat writers and insiders. None of the other 3 were mentioned at all.

For the Bloggers who spread the Lindholm and Rakell to NY. Thats just lost credibility now.

Great job by the Rangers keeping it tight lipped. Probably helps them significantly when dealing.
