so it's now Andy quit on the team , lol , it's seems in Leaf land the beleaf is if we can just make enough excuses for poor moves it'll lead us to a cup
Freddy clearly was in no rush to get back in the cage. I don't blame him for not rushing back into it either. He was costing us games, hurting his own value as a pending UFA, and if he was genuinely hurt he was only going to perpetuate the negative trend on both his injury and his reputation.

I don't think Freddy quit on us. We as a fanbase largely quit on Freddy. Not everyone, but definitely the majority. If you need proof just search the thread title
Do you believe in Frederik Andersen? Would you re-sign?

Freddy did what was best for Freddy at the time. It wasn't a direct f*** you to the organization, but him keeping KD in the dark on where he was at in his progress kind of insinuates he didn't give a f*** IMO. I see where people could view Freddy as quitting on us for that reason alone. Because we ended up going out to get Rittich as a result. Something we shouldn't have had to do if Freddy was cooperative to even a marginal degree.

Again, Freddy has every right to give the double barrel f*** you's to our fanbase. He gave us 3.5-4 great years and provided stability in a position that we hadn't had since Belfour. All we did in return was shit on him at every chance we could. But I will never be convinced that Freddy wanted to stay in Toronto after the year finished. This had nothing to do with cap, and everything to do with 2 parties needing to go separate ways

huge difference between saying Andy quit on the team and Andy didn't want to come back

imo the team didn't want him back and basically scapegoated him to deflect attention away from the bigger issues this team has and themselves

Andy's no superstar but he's still a good goalie who can handle a starters load , he's had a great start to the year because he's still a quality goalie and now plays behind a very good defensive team . Andy's success however seems to have triggered some fans into feeling they need to come up with fairy tales about why we didn't re-sign him .

Honestly, if the team wanted to use Freddy as the scapegoat they would have just had to play him. He couldn't stop a nose bleed last year. He was scapegoating himself

He kept the team in the dark throughout his entire injury. I think he had a spoiled relationship with the team. Some f which I am sure are completely valid. But ultimately, if your goalie can't communicate with you, you've got to move on. I really think it was a very mutual departure.

how could he have kept the team in the dark about his injury ?

Fine, quit on the team was a little harsh, but what I was saying doesn’t really change. Not making the effort to actually return is choosing not to help. Even if his motivations are understandable, to protect his value as a free agent, it’s still counter to what you want of your goaltender. Again, if my read on the all or nothing scenes is accurate and I clearly labelled it as speculation, so not really sure how I’m making excuses.

all that needs to be said is Frederik Andersens played mediocre hockey the last year and a half he was a Leaf and that’s ample justification for what the Leafs chose to do. No excuses required

It was very clear in the all or nothing documentary that the management and coaching staff were visibly frustrated with the training staff's inability to give them a timeline for Fred's return. When they persisted in questioning it, the trainer was visibly at a loss because it was not an injury they could tangibly identify as healing or healed. A muscle strain is an injury that is not detectable by an x-ray. You go entirely off of how the player says he/she feels. It was Freddy's word over anything. Had it been a broken ankle, the trainers would know when it is safe for the player to return and there would be very little the player could say in contrast to suggest otherwise.

for the record, I'm not trying to suggest Freddy was faking injury. What I think happened, is that Freddy was no longer willing to go on the ice unless he was 100% healed. Which is entirely fair, given that he reportedly was playing hurt all year and consequently was ruining his reputation by the second.

Our goaltending department was decimated by injury at the time in the docu-series where KD was inquiring about Freddy's status. KD was clearly just trying to get a read on Freddy's situation to see if he had to act on bringing in a backup for the playoffs. Remember at the time in the media, there was no timeline for Freddy's return from his Lower Body Injury. My guess is that Freddy was not giving a timeline, because he did not want to rush back. Had he said he was 80-90%, they likely don't make the deal for Rittich. They likely ride out Hutch and Soup until Freddy's return. We were so damn far into first place at the time that even if Freddy said I need another month and a half, they likely don't make the Rittich deal. My guess is that he gave them zero indications of returning at all.

Freddy took care of himself. I won't fault him on that. It was a contract year for him, and he had to do what was best for his career. I just think he could have taken that stance, all while communicating better. His inability to give a timeline, when he was the only one who would be able to do so, cost us a 3rd round pick. What else was KD supposed to do? He had a first place team with a starting goalie seemingly in no rush to return. With no timeline. Hard to blame him for going out and getting Rittich when you see what unfolded in the All or Nothing series IMO

the all or nothing show could be edited multiple ways to tell whatever story they want

earlier you said Andy kept them in the dark about his injury which isn't true since the training staff was involved and as far as a timeline goes how would anyone know exactly how long it will take just like the situation Mzarek is in now

By me saying Fred left them in the dark, that includes the training staff. They clearly had no f***ing clue when Fred wanted to get back in.

We can agree to disagree on that, I do agree, the editing could have done Freddy dirty. But it kind of aligns with why the Leafs management acted the way they did with respect to Rittich.
