I heard it from two credible sources yesterday. Friedman and Wyshinski both said this to be the case.

Think about it for a second. Mich probably knew he wasn’t top four. So that leaves Montreal, Arizona and then Philly. NOBODY wants to play in Arizona and he probably wanted American cash. So he lets it known he wants to go to Philly.

That makes sense to me.
If that is true, then the Habs would have been running a big risk drafting him.

I’m not here to troll? And I’m not talking about the shitty messages.

I’m talking to the people who think this was terrible pick, like they went completely off the board or something.

I can post wherever I want.

Going on another teams board, telling them their top prospect can't play defence and telling them they should be ashamed of themselves for not liking a pick is trolling.

Idgaf how you rationalize it.

but NHL players are paid in American

The way Matheson is skating, he is gonna be good for many years to come.
I agree. I just don't think they'll resign him when his contract expires. That's still 3 good years of play as a top pairing D on the Habs. Fantastic stuff. But he'll be 30 and the D core with be overrun with ready young D

Was initially upset at the pick when Michkov was there, but scouting reports and analytics have reassured me that this was a great pick. If management had a full picture on Reinbacher and not Michkov and truly believed Reinbacher was BPA, you can’t fault them for that. For all we know, Reinbacher develops into that franchise defenseman. It seems like his absolute floor is a #2 that’ll eat heavy minutes and that’s still the type of defenseman you need to win.

It’s also utterly embarrassing that fans are trashing the kid because management picked him. These people need to get a life.
Reinbacher is a defensive analytics darling, that's for sure

But the taxes in Canada are far more punitive.
I think there's a agreement between the two countries that don't let you tax twice federally so they can declare it as an american. But yeah the provincial taxes are unfortunately worse than the federal taxes in Quebec, only province where this happens for obvious reasons.

i don't think that's what happened
I don't know. But it seemed to be known on the floor that he wanted Philly. Either he really wanted Philly (why?) or he just didn't want to go to those other locations and this was his way of letting people know.

Who knows? But it's just more uncertainty with this player.

Danny Brière said it himself right after picking Michkov during the interview with Renaud Lavoie.

THESE so called fans that give David hate messages, should be banned from the bell centre forever.
what a disgrace as a hab fan , make me sick
Take away their Internet connection and let them be accountable for their words. People will say less stupid things when they have to say it face to face with someone.

Should there be a Reinbacher thread solely about him and not Michkov and the front management and all?

Prospect threads on HF are generally dense with information, videos, and insight on the player but right now it's mostly loosely-related... emotional discourse let's just say

There should be the same thing as the Mailloux thread for Reinbacher IMO

"His ability to learn quickly"
I don't understand why you pin learning quickly with what someone from the Habs said about his ceiling. Ceiling is a best case scenario. Likelihood of getting there or close to there is far more important. A player who learns quickly has a stronger chance to improve aspects of the game both in terms of skills development and processing. I can't believe anyone would question this.

Wentz was drafted in 2016. Hurts was drafted in 2020. Are you the Eagles fan? You must not follow them much - Carson Wentz is long gone. BPA was Reinbacher. That's why they took him. Guy was saying sometimes you reach for a QB (high scorer) like Michkov.

Anyway Habs went BPA and took Reinbacher. Great progression, should be a very good defenseman. No one knows now who will turn out the best, but the Habs got a good one. Lucky for us Habs fans!

Go Habs! Can't wait to see Reinbacher suit up for the Habs. Hope he makes the jump in 2024-25!

sorry, I don't remember the years players were drafted. I couldn't tell you when we drafted KK either, 3 years ago? the drafted Hurts a couple years after Went's MVP like season, and then I think after the eagles won the NFC east with Wentz they drafted Hurts. Wentz was still the guy when Hurts was drafted by the eagles is my point not the date.

Hughes literally said he likes the current forward group and wants to develop them. I like Howie changed his ways after learning from his Reagor/Jefferson situation, I hope this doesn't become like that.

It's nice ex post facto spin. As solid as PLD wanting to only play in Montreal. Until LA shows interest.

And when did he allegedly say this? During the interview this week, when Habs had made their mind up since a few months? How about an easier one, he knew the Habs had no interest. That Arizona was a non-starter. Philadelphia shows interest, oh wow I really want to got there...lol

Look at how Carolina sucked the air out of a dynamic offense like NJ. Our defense is setting out to be similar.. perhaps even better.
And look what Vegas did to Florida. The Panthers led the NHL in shots on goal all season and couldn't get anywhere near the net in the Final.

One thing here….the insults are evil and stupid and uncalled for towards the kid. But that stupid management created expectations. By not saying that they wouldn’t pick him. By meeting him. For Pete’s sake, every reason they gave, there no 1 on 1 meeting that would have changed it. I don’t care about strategy, read the f***ing room.
No, Habs fans don't need anything or anyone, to create expectations. They need more help to calm down their own ridiculous expectations.
Fans around here are dissecting every single words, tone, image about the Hab. They are making up their view and then think they know the truth . No, they don't

Well it's a shame he's on the Flyers and this is the Reinbacher thread

I don't understand why you question this relationship between learning quickly and what someone from the Habs said about his ceiling. Ceiling is a best case scenario. I'm not questioning anything, I don't know Reinbacher, I don't know if he's a quick learner as you say. I'm only telling you that, don't you think the scouting staff accounted for it, when they made their projection about him and came to the conclusion that he may only be a #2D, if everything goes well, who can't run a #1 PP ? Maybe it was a poor formulation from our GM...

100%! Hockey IQ is a big part and ability to comprehend the challenge and overcome it by learning from players around you and mistakes made is a huge part of development. Skill and potential is one thing, energy and the IQ to work through the hurdles is how players turn into stars. If the player is not obsessive with improving, they turn into journeymen.

"I don't like his ankle and knee flexion, no hips no legs no weight transfer needs more mass third pairing at best"

i can understand him not wanting Arizona, but i don't see what Philly has that would make a young Russian excited. i think it's just hyperbole
