This dude is Phillip Danault's clone, he was made to play for us. What a cutie.

Seems like a guarantee top four. But I mean Brisebois was too so not sure about this one

Brisebois struggled mightily with his pivots and it took him a long time to become remotely competent at it. This is where the "Breeze-by" nickname came from as he was easily beaten to the outside once you forced him to pivot. Reinbacher has no such problem. Brisebois was also viewed as an extraordinary offensive dman before we brought him up, he was never thought of as being a strong two way defender as a prospect.

Maybe we should of drafted Michkov just to see a few dandy goals to make most fans happy.. sure let's just load up our forward group and be like the Leafs..all flash up front and nothing on the back end.
That obviously works so well for them.
Once we get rid of our putred contracts we'll be able to trade for a star forward or two and by that time our young D core and young forwards will be a little more seasoned.
Some people seem to think if we got michkov we'll only be 1 or 2 more players away from cup contention.
We all need to take a breath. I wanted Michkov as well but perhaps this was actually the right pick.

Robinson also turned a Bruins series around when some one ended up pissing him off maybe Stan Jonathan.
He fought Jonathan once that I remember, but it was the regular season. I think it was the year after Jonathan wrecked Pierre Bouchard and left him a bloody mess, but I’m not a hundred percent on that one. It wasn’t much, Big Bird stretched him out and was able to use his reach to land a few before Jonathan went for his infamous leg tackle to end it (when he was losing). He was a tough little prick Jonathan, and certainly never picked his spots, he fought a lot of tough guys.

Maybe you’re thinking of the one where he finally lost his mind and went after Bobby Schmautz, who was always waving his stick in Larry’s face? Robinson beat the snot out of him in front of the Bruins bench and Cherry wouldn’t let them come off the bench to save him. He wrote about it in his book I believe - something like “Schmautz was a stand up guy, he fought his own battles, and I thought he’d be insulted if I sent the bench, then he tells me after, “you bastard Grapes, I was praying you’d let themcome.”

An enraged Robinson was glorious to watch, because he hit hard and he swung with mean intentions. I remember one night he got upset with Clark Gillies of all people, and chased Gillies the length of the ice trying to get him to drop the gloves but Gillies wanted no part of him.

Did a little digging and found the clip of Savard and Schultz I mentioned earlier:

He fills a huge need no question we need a 1 RHD since pk and Weber are no longer here. The only part that stings is we clearly drafted based on need rather than on BPA and potential. We will have other kicks at the can next year and the year following though. Hopefully the coming years aren’t influenced by needs or size and exclusively best player available. Same story different year unfortunately.
I agree. I would’ve picked Michkov myself. I just understand the pick without being thrilled with it.

This pick boils down to whether you prefer Hedman or Kucherov if you had to choose, assuming both have the chance to get there.

Well yeah, that sounds like a #1 dman.

Seriously, the analysis in this thread sucks a lot. ''Guy is average all around. Future great #2'' and ''minute munching 25 minute per game defenceman'' mfer there were a total of 8 defenseman in the whole league last year who averaged 25 per game lol.

I wanted Michkov and said my piece in the ''Who would you have drafted?'' thread. Reinbacher is just being straight up disrespected at this point.

For me it’s not so much about Reinbacher the player, it’s about where he was taken who he was drafted over.

It’s a high floor, low ceiling “safe” selection, a guy who certainly fits the bill as a #3 or #4 all-around D.

But the feeling of drafting a player like this is COMPLETELY different when we’re talking say the 20th overall pick vs the 5th overall pick.

Not saying this player in this draft is making it there, but it’s the kind of player that is just plain “meh” as it stands right now as a 5th overall pick in a deep forward draft. Remember, this is a team that is lacking in high end offensive skill.

Another year of bullshit hockey to end up with a 2nd pairing defenseman as your top 5 pick. No knock on the kid, but how on earth is that not viewed as underwhelming?

I saw you were very upset but I'm happy you can come with a very lucid explanation of the situation. That is a very clever post and I thank you for not being overlly emotional after such a deceptional draft (for you).

So yes, it's very possible Molson was emotionally marked by the Mailloux experience and he's maybe obsessed by the marketting of his nhl product. The management was maybe forced to take no risks at all and that explains that pick.
They said weeks ago they didn't watch him play for a whole season, I really don't think it's that complicated.

Scouts were missing info on Michkov, they liked Reinbacher a lot the whole process, and the latter happens to be great value there. I doubt Molson had anything to do with it.

So funny looking back on this. Pierre hates the pick “they have so many other needs…”

Bobby M chimes in - they could’ve drafted Mark Staal or Brule… he does mention Kopitar but damn, it’s funny listening to this. McGuire hates it because it’s not what they NEED. Totally overlooks the talent and BPA factor.

Let's say they really, deeply believed Reinbacher was the best player available. They would respond aggressively in their conviction to the questions being asked. Is that what's happening now? What's happening, when you check the Twitter, is it looks like a Soviet propaganda journal. Like behind every tweet there's an elephant in the room that is not being spoken. This energy transpires through the screen.

You didn't want to risk the PR? Go ahead and admit it. Don't gaslight us.

You really believed Reinbacher was the best player? Be persuasive. Make us feel it in our bones when you speak. This is not happening now.
Or maybe they are not that good in communication. Hughes is more celebral. Bergevin would have done a better persuasive job. At least I can say that was one of his strenght, and to a point where he was arrogant. But I see what you mean.

I want to remind people the last time everyone here was this enamored with a forward, we actually drafted him: Alex Galchenyuk

What's he doing nowadays? Oh, he's being shipped around to half the league and may not even get a contract. Meanwhile, the defenseman a lot of people turned their nose up at has curved out a very successful career in Toronto.

None of this is to say history will repeat itself. This could quite easily blow up in Hughes face. We simply won't know until both players crack the NHL—if they even do.

The point I'm making is it's waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too early to be blowing a gasket and declaring Hughes the dumbest GM in Habs history.

It's possible, I concede. But something feels off. On their Twitter, which they should have a flawless mastery of.

Welp, time to hop on the hoping Michkov busts train…

At least it’s clear Reinbacher would have gone to Arizona a pick later. Clearly Reinbacher was the top target or they would have traded down. They must view him as a cut above Dvorsky and Leonard. The proof will be in the pudding as they say.
