Hate to say it but for d+1 he's probably the worst pick in the top ten. Maybe Nate Danielson. Even willander at 11 is having a better year while being younger. Wood/honzek are probably the first guys objectively having worse seasons.
I still like Reinbacher's upside but it still sucks to see your highest drafted player in the organization not dominate.
I said it in the 2023 draft class thread that I haven't been too impressed with many of the 1st rounders from that draft at least so far. Though I was hard on Leonard saying early in the season that I found Perreault to be more impressive (also in the Perreault thread on the prospect board) but Leonard has looked a lot better in the 2nd half of the season.
But guys like Willander, Sale, so far haven't impressed too much though I haven't paid much attention but since Sale plays with Mesar I should get to see a few more games so we'll see. I've heard a lot of talk about Stramel's struggles, I just saw Matthew Wood last week and wanted us to trade up to get him before the Newhook trade, the skating still needs so much work and he doesn't use his great size to his advantage yet but he can shoot it. Still not on board with Michkov though and I wasn't too impressed with the little I saw of Dvorsky (just 1 OHL game I believe) and Danielson at the WJC's.
I do still like Barlow though I haven't seen him too much as I haven't paid much attention to Guindon this year since I assume they don't sign him. I also wanted us to trade up for Oliver Moore if not for Mathew Wood, I only saw a little of Minnesota this year, thought he was ok, the speed/skating are legit but not sure he can compute as fast as he feet move.
So maybe it could end up being a not so great draft class or in 5 years these kids could be a bunch of stars in the NHL as it's really hard to project how 17, 18 year olds will end up in 5-10 years, when they will figure it out or not and how long will it take and will injuries get in the way or numerous other things that can go wrong.
With Reinbacher he has NHL size, mobility, and plays a solid 2 way game, so his ability to move the puck while being able to have enough power/strength to hold off NHLers is going to get him plenty of looks in the NHL in time. It's just a question of how good will he be and there's no way anyone can know that at this point as I think if you ignore the scouting reports, the kid has solid tools and foundation with which to build off, so this is where your development team needs to earn their keep.
Build him up into a star, if the offense is a lot better then he's shown this year, as he's clearly got the frame and mobility to go with decent puck skills. I think he's got to work heavily on just being more consistent, string together a bunch of games where he handles the puck smoothly, effortlessly as he's shown he can do it but he's been inconsistent, which is common but that's what separates guys that can end up stars one day, they figure out how to do it at the highest level night in and night out.
