I don’t remember that one….do you have a link or was it just some random poster on HF?
They were stylistic comparables for the most part, also made by Jagr himself. The most common overall potential/role comparable used was Rantanen by far, nobody was talking about Slafkovsky being a top 5 player of all time like Jagr.

That’s what I thought….have a hard time believing someone would line up Slaf with Jagr….kind of like Michkov with Ovechkin lol

Boucher coach in both league so he probably have a good sense on how the level of play is on those league
Nah. It can't be. Boucher invents his own facts because it don't fits what i think.

On the other hand, Michkov is a generational talent.

Just saw that David… was one of three players on Kloten that wasn’t a minus (2nd at +7). Impressive considering he wasn’t sheltered.
Saw that too a few days ago.

If you +7 when everyone else is a +4, no big deal…..but when you the go to guy and everyone on your teM is -10….and you’re 17 in a men’s league…..my god, you had my curiosity, but now you have my attention!!

or it is a way to cool down the expectations of a specific group of fans.( Not only in this forum ).

By the way, saying he's not sure if he will play on the PP first unit doesn't mean that he won't play on the 2nd one, neither he doesn't offensive skills.

Again, we are giving too much importance to every single word they are saying.
Yup - manage expectations

As the great companies do: undercommit over deliver

Timmins is the supreme expert of retroactive drafting.

But there was a photo of his draft list at the time -- he had Leblanc ranked 9th in the draft.
Bob Gainey was interviewed last year on Mitch Melnick’s show and said he told Timmins they had taken American kids in 1st round of 2-of-3 previous drafts including Fisher over Giroux and they couldn’t do that with draft being held in Mtl.

Gainey also went on to say, in 2005 their target was Benoit Pouliot but when picked by Minny, they “settled” for Price because Rollie Melanson was positively convinced he was a generational G

Were people expecting them to say there wasn't a consensus and the drew his name out of a hat?
Only that they could have kept it to themselves. The GM can defend the choice without bringing up his staff since the ultimate decision whether it was unanimous or not behind the scenes, is his and his alone.

Chances are that if his scouts weren’t unanimous about the selection, the GM would have never mentioned it. In the end, trying to use his staff to back him up as he did, is just a crass and hollow self-serving statement.

And if it’s so obvious as some posters are arguing, then isn’t it « dumb » to state the obvious?

The yes-man meme that came out of Hughes implicating his staff as he did, was just forum humor. However, some posters can’t tell the difference and take everything literally. Just another day on HF.

This is the dumbest kind of argument constantly made by more than one poster to validate a hypothesis opinion.
It's meant in jest...i mean, the very thought that people beliefe all of them agreed without any debate amongst themselves is ridiculous in the first place.

Tons of people had issues with Guhle...

I think "tons" is overstating it. Every non-obvious consensus draft pick will have discussion surrounding them. Comparing the Guhle situation to the Michkov situation is ridiculous though.

Oh really??!!!

It’s no wonder you view this as nonsense

You guys are really nitpicking wording here. Did I not say in the following sentence that some people didn't like the pick? Holy moley.

People hated the Guhle pick. They hated the Juulsen pick too. And Fischer. And Tinordi. And McDonagh. Nobody likes drafting a dman first round.

Sure, man. People really lost their shit when we drafted Tinordi at 22 and Juulsen at 26. There were riots in the streets, I tell you.

Or he could have worded it differently, sure, but anyone who's been involved in group decision making recognizes that a consensus doesn't not necessarily mean no-one had differing views on the decision ultimately reached.

These kind of things go without saying...but the problem is you've got a fanbase that's very emotional and looking for more meaning into everything the GM is saying right now.

Yes, clearly why my comment was meant in jest.

I didn't personally see any meme, was just supporting a point advanced by @JoelWarlord
