This is the Reinbacher discussion thread but the irony isn’t lost on me that one player is scoring braces in the NHL (you say would have never played for MTL) and the other just had surgery for a blown out knee and will lose close to a full season of development.

Not sure where this attitude comes from but it’s grimly funny
No attitude whatsoever. And Friedman reported on his broadcast that Michkov would only speak to teams he'd play for. I'd suspect Montreal wasn't one of them, and yes this is only my belief. And because this has to do with the 5th overall pick, I don't see the issue with discussing not picking Reinbacher in the Reinbacher thread.

I'm seeing a lot of whining, crying and adult temper tantrums, but I'm not seeing much discussion about his game. @montreal has criticized his game, but he comes with receipts, reasons and why.
Fair enough, i'm sure he was talked about at some point but 90% of the people seemed shocked here
It happens every year though. Anaheim regularly picks players "higher" than the lists. McGuire called the Price pick "off the reservation". The 2017 had a majority of risers in the top 5 and the teams that picked them are very happy. We all wanted Michkov, but clearly something happened. Both Lapointe and Bobrov talked about "culture" which they don't usually do. They didn't like something about Michkov, which I don't agree with, but Reinbacher was still going top 10.

People think I'm stuck on just Michkov but I would have been thrilled with Leonard. To be honest I have some issues with Michkov, he looks like a 'me player' in Philly, dude celebrates just a little too hard in the preseason has a bit of Gilbert Dionne in him. I just don't see the upside in Reinbacher, but I'm happy to eat my words maybe 5 YEARS down the road at this rate.

people did not see the upside of Subban, Weber, Keith, Lidstrom, Faber, the list goes on and on and on. Thats my hope!

You could see the skillset of PK, Keith, Lidstrom but thus far I haven't seen the offensive upside I'm hoping for in a #5 pick.

Daniel Briere stated they wanted Michkov.

With the pick they used. The reporting around the draft and the Gauthier move was they wanted Reinbacher if they got the pick at 5. That isn't to say if they had pick 5 and didn't have pick 7 as well, that they wouldn't have taken Michkov at 5. Michkov wanted to go there, but they would have taken Reinbacher at 5 because Arizona would take him and the NHL teams valued Reinbacher at pick 5

I'd like to know the source of Reinbacher was hot for everybody....McCagg? yeah, well..I know I did say that he does have his contacts...but he's often somehow pegged with a guy who has to defend every pick the Habs make for some reasons....

I love McCagg's article about Arizona desperately wanting Reinbacher...and that an NHL team, filled with professionnals executives, had no plan B...and just had to pick Simashev...that they panicked...lol.

If that's true, please people...stop mentioning that pros know best...

Pronman, Wheeler, Robinson, etc. The guys who got the order pretty spot on and then did it again this year.

I don't think Michkov would have ever played a game for Montreal if we had drafted him. And maybe we would have selected someone other than Demidov had we drafted Michkov. I think you have to consider those things if you're still sour we passed on Michkov.

It's hard to say but he met with Philly twice, once in secret. And Friedman reported that he wanted to go there and gave information to have that play out in his favor.

So Philly likely the team that knew he could come over early.

With how we see Demidov being handled, would we really want SKA handling his development for 2 more years!?! I can see how that spooked teams and if Bobrov knew Michkov didn't want to be here vs Philly, that changes things too. This group wants people who want to be here. Plus if Michkov threatens to sign an extension in Russia after his initial contract is up?

It's easy to take Michkov on talent but it's a different calculus when your job depends on it and you have way more information. Would just be nice to have a nuanced discussion here to accept that Philly had a clearer picture than anyone else because that's where he wanted to go.

I think Leonard is going to be a great player. One of my favorites from that draft as well. He has everything I like in a winger.

I don't think Reinbacher has that upside either. Maybe a 40 point guy, maybe 50, but I would guess 30-40.

My POV is that Hutson will be the offensive guy, its totally fine for Reinbacher to play a Pietrangelo style rather than a Makar style, hes going to have a tremendous impact if he can get a bit more physical, which scares me a bit since hes an Euro player

I would be over the moon if Reinbacher became a Pietrangelo type of defenseman, who's, imo, one of the very best D in the last 10-15 years.

back in the day I got so much shit because I ranked Subban over McDonagh while he was still in the OHL. I must of gotten over a 100 but how can Subban be ranked higher if he was picked in the 2nd round vs the 12th OA pick.

It's funny what people say at the time, in hindsight they know everything but at the time of often not as much as they think. Too many posters just seem to live to say no you are wrong and I am right, blah blah blah for 5 page of nonsense talking about things they can't really even know.

He just looks so much like Shea Weber to me and management even showed him videos when he was trying to do a little too much in the early part of his season last year. They basically said thos is what we see you as. This is what you are capable of being. Shea Weber. That's who I see. And that would be phenomenal. Him and ghule shutting things down on the penalty kill will be a brick wall

Yeah those are lofty expectations imo , crossing my fingers no doubt
If everything goes perfectly, his ceiling is definitely in that range. He might also end up being a Rasmus Andersson type of player, which is a very important player on a cup contender, especially when you have a Hutson type of player in your line-up.

Pronman said he'd take Michkov at 5 if he was available. What about the report that Bobrov said that in reality, they didn't take Michkov because they had Caufield already? And Lapointe stating ''3 years in waiting''? I guess we will know later on....but if you don't say it out loud, what happens is that if you don't pick the huge offensive potential superstar kid, for a defensive d-man that has a great 1st pass....you are putting a target on the said D kid....

What we need is a defensive monster who can also contribute offensively. That's what i think Reinbacher will be. He's what we desperately need on the right side imo. A dman you can pair with Guhle for critical defensive moments at the end of a game or against a team that has a crazy good top line.
