If teenagers in the juniors can comprehend the system and execute it, NHL players should be able to.

There's only 1 way to find out. It's the pragmatic and logical step. Fire Ruff... After an allotted amount of time, if there's still no structure and lots of confusion, fire Quinn.

To me, Ruff is to coaches what Staal is to defensemen. The game may have passed them by... not meant for this era

I agree with this. Ruff may not be the problem but the first step is to make a change and that’s the logical starting point. I personally just don’t think Quinn is long for the NHL, though I’m not sure who could step in right now that I’d want.

Your first paragraph speaks exactly to my point.
There's zero reason for these players to run around like bobbleheads.

Second.. If DQ can't figure it out by now, what makes you think a change in staff will make a difference?

He's not going to allow nor accept a new defensive coach to just to come in here and change up his whole system and line of thinking, if you want to call it that.

It's just not going to happen.

Third.. Agreed that Ruff needs to go but he needs to take DQ and the rest of this green ass staff with him..

I've been hard on Quinn more so than most. But he just had a hell of a press conference. He was honest. He's not calling out names, but he was honest, and I'll tip my hat to that.

Brady Skjei is soft, not willing to block shots, and will turn pucks over against a forecheck rather than take a hit. Marc Staal's not too far away. A far cry from what he used to be.

Pavel Buchnevich, Brett Howden & Kaapo Kakko aren't winning board battles because they aren't paying a price to throw a hit with their bodies. They are reaching, and they are reaching while at the stand-still or coasting. That's not making it hard for the opposition to get pucks out.

That's 40 minutes on one side of the ice on defense, and components of two forward lines.

They're reaching because it's not humanly possibly to keep up with the ridiculous pace he's trying to throw at this team.
Thus the one game on, one game off nonsense.

I'll tip my hat to this clown right after he, for once, takes responsibility himself instead of pointing at everyone else..

Last night vs the Oilers is yet another example of how Quinn directly cost this team points. Besides several mistakes( taking a timeout rather than changing goalies when down 3-0 in the first) his own behavior behind the bench, acting like a petulant 3 year old after he did not get some calls and mocking the referee which resulted in the Oilers getting the 6th goal is just pathetic. Quinn just does not get it, this is the NHL, not D1 college. Show the officials some respect and maybe they will start showing him some. Last night he embarrassed himself going after Ian Walsh whose officiated in the league for over 15 years and worked the playoffs several years. Quinn looked like a fool and allowed his bench to fall apart.

No one could have predicted the third period comeback at the time but he’s got to stop with this absurd childlike behavior on the bench!

I have been hard on Quinn recently, but to call him a petulant 3 year old after the BS officiating that was displayed is quite a reach. The Rangers have been railroaded by the Officials lately. Officiating throughout the league has been atrocious. This is hockey. The guy went in hard on GG, Lindgren gets physical and gets the extra two for a jab? I am glad Quinn was incredulous. Defending Ian Walsh? GTFO JHS. Ian Walsh has been one of the worst officials in the league and has constantly had dogshit performances. Do we forget the winter classic against Philly? He was terrible that day. He is always terrible. Now were criticizing Quinn for screaming at the Refs when they were flat out terrible? Grow a pair. Quinn shouldve thrown sticks on the ice. Has to stop with the child like behavior? This is the first time he has received a penalty ever. This isn’t something habitual.

I have no problem critiquing DQ on other aspects of the team, but going after him for that is reaching to take every shot you can at this guy. The team came out and played hard in the 3rd for him. He must have been doing something right there. And it could have been predicted because this team has responded to him all year, they dont lay down and die. This team has a poor defensive structure. Ruff continues to roll out Lindgren and Staal for some god forsaken reason. Ruff needs to go. They need a better defensive coach and they need it soon. It is also not DQ’s fault that he has not been given competent players to fill out his 4th line.

Butterfly effect.

If he doesn’t get pissed off and get fired up to take that penalty, maybe the team doesn’t come back at all.

Yes the Rangers had no part in that, EDM just rolled over for them...
Just like the Rangers rolled over the first 35 minutes of the game?

Its one thing if they only scored 2-3 goals. They grabbed 4 in the final period and came very close to tying the game. If Panarin doesnt attempt that cross ice pass maybe they tie it. But I guess it doesnt count and DQ gets no credit. The team gets no credit. Sound about right.

Listen- the proof is in the results— Quinn has been getting screwed by every pair of officials that ref his games. That’s not a coincidence.

Walsh hasn’t been a great ref and he’s worked less than 30 playoff games in over 15 years but let’s not kid ourselves— Quinn’s behavior last was laughable.

I think a point of comparison is in order- Rick Bowness whose been around the NHL for over 30 years just had Corey Perry thrown out of the game during the Winter Classic. He responded by telling Pierre in an interview that “well we don’t like it but it was the right call.” Quinn has a third pair defensemen receive 4 minutes and responds like someone just took his toy truck. Compare the two and I think you will see what my problem with Quinn is- he continually embarrasses this franchise.

Wait now youre trying to reference Bowness stating the Refs made the right call...because it was the right call? It was a hit to the head of course it was the right call. Please stop, this all out assault on DQ is embarrassing, not DQ who has been very professional with the media and behind the bench. But hey lets use this one instance to push a narrative.

Ok, I'll rephrase

Panarin decided to start playing AND the Oilers stopped trying

They had 5 shots on goal and the Rangers blew them out 3 to 1 in CF in the 3rd period

Like I said last night in the GDT, Panarin is dragging this team kicking and screaming to wins

Nope missing the point. One guy has a star player thrown out of a game and takes it professionally while the other has a third pair defensemen get 4 minutes and can’t control himself and loses control of his bench in the process. The difference is how the coach reacts to adversity or when things don’t go his way. One guy is professional and therefore has stuck around the league for 30 years and is beloved by his players by all accounts. The other is a below 500 NHL coach who can’t get any system in check at all.

Just for those who care about the details of last night, anyone else notice how Lindy Ruff went over to Quinn, said something and then Quinn stopped his embarrassing behavior. I’d venture to say Lindy said something to the effect of better get it under control before you get tossed. Experienced guy gets it.

Quinn got this team to come out and play in the 3rd after being on the pk for 2 periods, I'd say the players like playing for him.

If only he could get his team to come out and play in the first 2 periods. Or at the very least the first 15 seconds of the game

I am not missing the point. I just told you the situations are not comparable. You are going to great lengths to push your narrative and personal vendetta against DQ. Dramatizing Rick Bowness with how “popular” he is with his players? Fantastic argument, because we know DQ is hated by his players? And no Lias Andersson doesnt count. Perry is not a star player and was also completely at fault and deserving of the penalty received. Context is important too. Stop neglecting everything and saying whatever sounds better for your argument. Our 3rd pair defenseman Lindgren is just as important if not more than Perry is given the point he is at in his career. But quite honestly the status of each player doesnt matter here. Context.

Oh and I guess we’ll go a step further and make an unproven claim that Ruff told DQ to calm down because again it fits your “experience” argument.

DQ is not without his faults but this is not the hill to be dying on. Give it a damn rest.

Trust me I’m not dying on this hill. I just can’t believe anyone is left defending Quinn at this point— how many more games do the Rangers have to give up 5+ goals... how many more games can a bunch of internet posters highlight multiple critical coaching errors.... how many more games can we watch this team play as soft a a wet tissue... how many more games can we watch multiple players actually regressing.... how many more top 10 picks need to quit the franchise....

You guys who defend this guy are a riot! You must either be perfectly oblivious to what is wrong here( which I don’t believe you @RGY are) content with mediocrity, or have just completely forgotten what an actual NHL coach can do for a team. Either that or you have just such pathetically low standards for this team that this coach just keeps getting a pass. Last year I was not on here killing this coach but when the team goes out and acquires two top end talents, has enough skill to be a top scoring team and a highly above average goaltending duo, that’s enough to start holding guys accountable.

Cue the youngest team in the NHL crowd in 3.....2.....1.....

I agree there are multiple components to this team that are concerning. I am still not sure if this is all on DQ though.

As I have said many times, a lot of the issues we are seeing defensively, whether it be the system or in zone coverage or both, as well as the struggles our defensemen have at playing actual defense, are the same as they were before DQ was here. We know who the common denominator is. And make no mistake this front office, Gorton included, forced Lindy Ruff on DQ. Ruff is running the defense and the PK. He is the one shuffling two LD out there in Staal and Lindgren at different points even though we know the opposition has scored seemingly every time and at the worst times of the game too.

As I have also said I think there are certain things DQ does well, certain things he preaches, his demeanor and how he handles the media. He says a lot of the right things. Some players have improved under him. But in other aspects he has failed. The most glaring is not getting his team to tighten up in 3rd periods and guarantee the extra point. The extra points they have missed out on, the “loser” point, is what is separating them from a WC spot right now. In those times, instead of taking control of his team especially the forward group by having them dump pucks deep and work down low in a north-south style, he is letting them run wild. That goes for every player. And sure we may have very few north-south players but thats what makes you the coach and them the player. You force your east-west players to dump pucks in. You tell them the game plan has shifted due to the moment. He has also continued to play Smith when he should have Gorton bring up DiGi or someone else. Or find a suitable 4th line forward somewhere. He has to be better there. And I think he can improve, I think he can learn too.

The bottom line is the issues dont all fall on him. The defense is on Ruff and until he is fired I dont believe DQ is getting a fair shake there with HIS coaching staff. The 4th line atrocity is on Gorton and JD. They had opportunities to make this team deeper and for CHEAP. Brassard and Boyle. Brassard would have pushed others down to the 4th line. Boyle could play either line and PK. Its not about nostalgia its about roles and those two wouldve fit the necessary roles for very cheap. I absolutely believe its the difference in where they are right now. It was an egregious mistake in assessment by management.

But with all that said, no I am not upset with how he handled the situation with the Refs in the 2nd period. Doesnt make me change my opinions of him.

Totally fair take. I respect that and can see where you are coming from. We essentially agree on almost everything but I’m not as quick to give Quinn excuses. Lindy should have been canned years ago and Brassard and or Boyle would have made a ton of sense.

I’m guilty of being very hard on Quinn. Admittedly, I thought AV did a really good job here and was upset when he was let go/ chose to leave. I just won’t be convinced that Quinn is/was the right guy.

Until Quinn has a full roster nobody can really judge him. He needs Staal, Smith, Haley and McKegg to be replaced by NHL players, he needs atleast 1 top 6 RW but probably 2 until Kakko gets going, he needs a healthy Lemieux for the 3rd line. So in essence this is what his lineup looks like right now. He is being forced into using Buch and Fast in the top 6 when they should be bottom 6.

Kreider Zibanajad ________
Panarin Strome ________
________ Chytil Buchnevich/Kakko(neither a top 6 on a good team right now)
_______ Howden Fast

_______ Trouba
Skjei Fox
Lindgren??? Deangelo
