Sullivan:

1) Martin was tossed. That should be the first indicator Sullivan most likely isn't coming.

2) Alot of short memories here at HFBNYR. I distinctly remember he was the Power Play coach and, an overwhelming majority of posters wanted him off Torts bench because the PP was not only the weakest link, but, it was downright terrible even thought we had some big name talent on PP1.

So...why?

Its not hard to win when you have Crosby, Malkin, and Letang ok your squad and they approve of your tenure.

Swedish major newspaper is reporting that Vaxjö HC's head coach Sam Hallam is interviewing for Rangers HeadCoach job.
Sam Hallam has been at Växjö since 12/13 and won 3 titles during that time.
Type of hockey is stong defense creates great defense. He is good at polishing prospects and making them shine and also he in my mind is a really good matchcoach who can see and play the ones that is hot for the day.
Has no problem putting the bigger names on the side if the preformance is not up to the par.

I am originally from Växjö and can say he is extremely popular in the city and has a really good reputation in the SHL. As already mentioned it would be a very big risk in aquiring him and bringing him to NHL.

One very interesting part of the story is that Chris Drury's nephew plays in the Växjö-team under Hallam. Jack Drury is praising Hallam as fantastic coach in the linked article below.

I would be utterly surprised if he was hired as a HC. If anything, I would guess he would start as an assistant coach if an NHL move happens. Most likely it is just a story to attract some attention.

Galna ryktet: Hallam aktuell för NHL-jobb

If its Gallant/Brindamour you wont be hearing from me. Even if its Torts/Hartley/Boudreau/Julien/Babcock you wont be hearing from me. So long as they bring in experience I will be patient because I trust experience. And if it fails, so be it, but going the route of experience is the way to go.

I agree with a lot of this. The team needs a veteran coach in the worst way. Those coaches are the ones who take this type of team and make them into a playoff team and eventually a contending championship team. The other, and often overlooked aspect of brining a veteran coach in, is he instantly has the respect of the room. You don’t win 100’s of NHL games by being lost and unable. You don’t get to cup finals and potentially winning them by making coaching blunders. The Rangers have, in my opinion, enough talent— by far— to make the playoffs so with a strong veteran presence behind the bench, I will almost certainly be more patient and tolerant of the new coach.

Part of my dislike for Quinn was the premise he was hired under. We were told he was a “developmental coach” which is an absurd notion to sell. He was hired because the team believed he could relate well to young players and it turned out that he did what every other NHL coach does which is try to win games. Of course that’s what he should have done but the organization put him in a terrible spot by selling the “development coach” premise.

Fire bad!

Sorry... just the way I read it.

I think coaching does play a part. Isles or anyone else. I don't feel Quinn helped bring out the best in Kakko, Lafreniere and even Miller. I feel he underutilized Kravtsov (once here) and should've used the PP to give these HIGHLY skilled young kids some room to do their thing, against 1 less defender.

Instead he rolled out PP1 w Strome on RW for 1:49 every time.

Did it get us into the playoffs? NOPE. Did it save his own job? NOPE

Well here we are... yes hindsight is 20/20 but again, he was a "developmental coach" who did almost no developing IMO
Points made by you are very good. I guess we shall see the future

Larry Brooks said:
It is believed that a significant part of the reason David Quinn was dismissed on Wednesday by president-general manager Chris Drury is the disconnect that developed between the coach and his marquee players as the season evolved.

So, exactly what was being speculated here, and exactly what several people here were ridiculed for suggesting. Nice.

I just love the idea of Drury trying to keep things quiet as "I'm back, you better believe" Logan Roy is in the other room texting Larry Brooks with one finger.

  • I dont know the mandate that Drury is given. He has no experience. Will he hire a coach that is not to vocal and demanding?

I want Gallant or Brindamour (but that’s a pipe dream). Hallam is intriguing though and that’s the kind of outside the box pick I might be inclined to take a chance on.

I don’t mind a new coach but someone like Quinn never really made sense

Yea I want to know what it is about Sully people like. What does he do? That's the same question I have of every coach we bring in. Unfortunately most of us only have time to see our own team consistently so it's difficult to find anyone who knows.

Edit: Like everyone knew Bylsma was carried by the talent on that team, why don't people think the same of Sully?

I really want to know who was ridiculing people. I'm almost positive I have them all on my ignore list bc I was pointing out a LOT of issues back in September and their insipid, dishonest posts were making this place like a high school girls locker room in terms of cattiness and group think. I bet they're still in denial that everything was 100% fine here and it's just Dolan's fault for imagining problems that don't exist at all

in life, and in sports, you are judged by your results.

quinns team was a no show when it counted. this group got hammered at the end of the year. when they needed to step up they stepped out. last years "bubble" disaster still stings. slow starts to games, undisciplined penalties, being out coached frequently, his inability/unwillingness to use his talent properly especially his kids. the whole deangelo saga. the totality of his work was average at best.

jd and gorton share the blame. jd needed to get quinn some muscle and couldn't.

gorton needed to draft better when he didnt luck out with the lottery- mostly because his team couldn't make the playoffs.

the next coach needs to be an experienced and demanding coach who wins by playing sounds defense first and having special teams that can win games on their own. the talent is certainly here.

who ever it is needs to be able to let the kids play and develop because we have many on roster and more on the way. reliance on vets isnt the answer to an organization ripe with talented kids.

lets not get stuck on reboot.

use the talent properly. expect accountability and results. play the yutes.

Are players really going to trash the guy publicly? especially when it wasn't a given that he would be gone?

so when they say things you don't agree with they are lying. when things are implied that you do agree with they are fact?

I certainly didn’t expect the players to speak in the way Eichel/Reinhart/Rusto did regarding Buffalo. What if Quinn had stayed and they said he was horrible? That relationship wont last. Someone would have to go at that point.

So since I said the last two years since jd got here that means lucking into the first and 2nd overall pick has nothing to do with what was done prior. You’re not giving them credit for making picks you could make in your sleep are you?

and both kids horribly underperformed as rookies so that’s hardly a glowing endorsement

you’re also giving them credit for Adam Fox literally forcing his way here.

but somehow just ignored the total shit show of drama that has followed the team since last year. That’s almost hard to do but you did it.
It's almost like you're blaming the GM & President of a hockey team for a moron defenseman's mouth/actions and a half assed political hit job from Russia. That's hard to do, but you did it

Should we give credit to them for Kravtsov? Miller? Lundkvist? Roberston? Shesterkin? Schneider?

Should we give them credit for turning us from an abysmal pool to top-2? I believe yes. Because they did. Whatever Drury does from here on, he's starting with a top prospect pool. It's his job to get it to SC Contender status AND KEEP IT THERE FOR AS LONG AS POSS

But he's starting on 1st & 2nd base instead of down 2 runs, with 2 out no one on and 2 strikes in the 9th

Edit: Damn I always spell Lundkvist wrong blahhhhh

Pretty difficult not to let your real feelings show about a topic, and at the other end, we're pretty good at reading between the lines. Giving praise is definitely not the same as speaking cordially and being diplomatic.

I'd like to hear Quinn's side of the story. Has he given any interviews?
