Yup, agreed.

If they came to him last summer with 8/88 he'd be signed already. Willing to bet their best offer then was matching McAvoy's 9.5 per

Disagree

I think the hang up has always been the direction of the team and who he’s playing with

The future was even more uncertain when it was Cassidy at the helm, Krejci gone, Rask fades away, bergeron gets another year older, and the bruins have a quick exit once again

I posit that the only reason we are speaking of pasta in this way is because the team has this sudden resurgence and so we’re not considering all the variables and the fact that this could all come down like a house of cards at any moment

Sweeney might have came in “low” when the talks initially started awhile back but if pasta wasn’t in wait n see mode he I’m willing to bet he was offered 8/88 and it just was never fully about how much he was making.

My question still remains what exactly is happening in talks regarding how sweeney will convince pasta that playing here another 8 years is what’s best for him.

Can he say “we can win a cup this year and might have to retool a bit the next two but you’ll be a huge part of the team and we’ll be strong cup contenders again in 25-26” is pasta cool with that? Or does he leverage that sweeney go out and sell the farm to get hertl? Does he say I’ll sign as soon as you get a young talented center or I’m testing free agency come July?

I think that’s the toughest part of all of this, pasta’s agent negotiations are having an above average impact on the moves sweeney makes this trade deadline

Hindsight is 20/20. Same folks would be pissed at sweeney if he signed him last summer for 8/$88MM and he blows out a knee or breaks his hand slipping on the ice again and has a down year. Or if bergy and krejci don't come back and the team sucks like many thought they would.

He is a franchise player and given how he can score… even on one leg if he can set up on the dot he will get his 40. B’s haven’t had a scorer like this for 30 years and they need to; and will , get him signed imo. This is a special team and year and guys are playing for the vets and eachother and it shows. With the chapter 11 of one of the broadcasters the cap may go sideways so there are many moving parts they have to, and will (imo) figure out indue time.

I sincerely hope you are right, if the Bruins let him get away for nothing the damage to the team will be severe.

Everyday that goes by I am more convinced he wants to (and will) go to free agency. At this point I am about 60/40 and every day it goes up by 3. Tomorrow would be 63/37. (See what I did there.) :)

I hope I am wrong.

Just give him whatever he wants

2023-24: $83.5 million (projected)

2024-25: $87.5 - $88 million (projected)

2025-26: approximately $92 million (projected)

23-24 his cap hit is gonna hurt
24-25 it will be manageable
25-26 it will be a bargain

this x 1 million

If he leaves because of money it's the Bruins fault.

Even if it stays level you sign him and deal with it.

Pastrnak is a player you move mediocre contracts to keep not a player you move to keep mediocre contracts.

should be getting my Season ticket renewals in the next week or so

I would think the Bruins would want Pasta signed long term before next years money is due

Im sure some people are on the fence for next year with 46 and 37 possibly gone

88 being locked up should ease some people’s concerns of the future and wether it’s worth the investment

I don't know nothing, but if Pastrnak leaves I have totally misread his character. You learn from your elders. He might/should learn something from Bergeron.
With all due respect, the similarities between Bergeron and Pasta and their contract situations are not at all alike. You tell one key thing that Bergeron has that Pasta does not. I’ll give you a hint — it’s big and shiny.

Come on man, be better than this.

If I were in Pasta's shoes, I'd wait and see what 37 and 46 do. That just makes a lot of sense to me. Even if he really wants to stay in Boston, I would expect him to wait and see about that first. It's February, he has all the time in the world.
I agree. Frankly, if Pasta were to sign without a private confirmation from Bergie that at least he is coming back I’d question his thought process.

If Pasta were my son, I’d be urging him to wait until he knows. Feels not good writing that but it‘s the damn truth. I strongly suspect at end of the day that most here would encourage their son to do the very same.

The thing that has me concerned is I don’t believe the hang up is the money
Yeah, then there would be a big issue. There was some story early from a source that said he won't re sign here because of how Krug was treated, but I can't see that as being the reason. He seems to like it here, but hey maybe it's as simple as wanting a change of scenery in a new city. still think he signs, until he doesn't.
